WELCOME ABOARDCongratulations on your new boat purchase and welcome to the Wellcraft boating family!We want your boating experience to be the most enjoyable possible. The more you know about your newboat, the more you’ll enjoy the time you spend aboard. That’s why we prepared this manual. It’s yourguide for safe operation as well as understanding your boat’s systems and equipment. It has been writtenfor the beginning boater but experienced boaters will find helpful information as well. Be sure to read thecontents thoroughly.The popularity of boating and other water sports has grown tremendously in the past few years. Becauseof this, safety is an important issue for everyone who shares our waterways. Remember that along with thefreedom and exhilaration of boating comes the responsibility that you have for the safety of your passengers and the other boaters who share the water with you. Throughout this manual, specific precautionsand symbols identify safety-related information. These symbols and associated instructions are in the formof Danger, Warning and Caution statements. They are described in the Safety Information section of themanual. Be sure to pay close attention to them.The precautions in this manual can’t and don’t cover every boating situation. If a specific method orprocedure is not recommended, you must make sure that what you do is safe for you and others. Alwaysuse common sense when boating! Remember too that every safe boating excursion is a happy experience.This manual has been compiled to help you operate your craft with safety and pleasure. It contains thedetails of the craft, the equipment supplied or fitted, its systems, and information on its operation andmaintenance. Please read it carefully and familiarize yourself with the craft before using it. If this is yourfirst craft, or if you are changing to a type of craft your are not familiar with, for your own comfort andsafety, please ensure that you obtain handling and operating experience before “assuming command” ofthe craft. Your dealer or national sailing federation or yacht club will be pleased to advise you of local seaschools and competent instructors.We’d also like to remind you to be kind to our environment while you’re boating. Don’t throw garbageand other refuse overboard. And do your best to keep harmful compounds like gasoline, diesel fuel andantifreeze out of the water.3

SAFETY INFORMATIONYour Wellcraft manual has been written to include a number of safety instructions to assure the safe operation andmaintenance of your boat. These instructions are in the form of DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTIONstatements. The following definitions apply:All instructions given in this book are as seen from the stern looking toward the bow, with starboard being to yourright, and port to your left. A glossary of boating terms is included.IMPORTANT NOTE: Your boat uses internal combustion engines and flammable fuel. Every precaution has beentaken by Wellcraft to reduce the risks associated with possible injury and damage from fire or explosion, but yourown precaution and good maintenance procedures are necessary in order to enjoy safe operation of your boat.5

IMPORTANT INFORMATIONOwner’s ManualSpend some time looking through this manual. Itcontains information concerning the operation and careof your boat. The descriptions contained within themanual will introduce you to the features of the boatand provide you with a general knowledge of how theequipment works. The manual is divided into sectionsthat are listed in the Table of Contents.All instructions given in this book are as seen from thestern looking toward the bow with starboard being toyour right, and port to your left. The suppliers of some of the major componentssuch as engines, pumps, and appliances, provide theirown owner's manuals which have been included withyour boat. You should read the information in thismanual and the manuals of other suppliers completelyand have a thorough understanding of all componentsystems and their proper operation before operatingyour boat.Hull Identification Number LocationThe boat warranty registration requires the HullIdentification Number “HIN” which is located on thestarboard side of the transom, just below the rubrail.The engine warranty registration requires the engineserial numbers. Please refer to the engine owner'smanual for the location of the serial numbers.REMEMBER - IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TOENSURE THAT YOUR BOAT IS SAFE FOR YOU ANDYOUR PASSENGERS. ALWAYS EXERCISE GOODCOMMON SENSE WHEN INSTALLING EQUIPMENTAND OPERATING THE BOAT.Note: There are items which are not covered bythis warranty. It is important thatessential that we have your warranty registrationcard complete with your name and mailingaddress in our files so that we can comply withthe law if it should become necessary.you properly complete the warranty registrationcards included with your boat and engine(s) andmail them back to the manufacturer to registeryour ownership. This should be done within 15 days ofthe date of purchase and before the boat is put intoservice. A form for recording this information for yourrecords is provided at the beginning of this manual. Thisinformation will be important for you and servicepersonnel to know, if and when you may need service ortechnical information.12Transferring the WarrantyAll rights and terms of the Limited Warranty can betransferred to subsequent owners of Wellcraft modelsfor the duration of the original warranty period. To takeadvantage of this program, you must complete aWarranty Registration Transfer Form found in thischapter and send it to Wellcraft Marine Corp., Attention

After which, the transfereewill be treated as the original purchaser as outlined inthe Wellcraft Limited Warranty Statement.Construction Standards:All our boats meet or exceed the construction standardsset by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Boat andYacht Council (ABYC) concerning: Navigational lights Factory installed fuel systems Engine and fuel tank compartment ventilation Floatation Steering systems Backfire flame arrestersWarranty ServiceAs the owner, you are responsible for the properregistration of your boat at the time of purchase. Youmust also follow proper operation procedures andadhere to the care and maintenance procedures setforth in this manual. Be sure to read your boat’swarranty, as well as the information and warranties(provided in your owner’s portfolio) for majorcomponents. You are responsible for notifying yourdealer in writing of any claimed defect within areasonable period of time and returning your boat toyour dealer for service.We recommend that you see your dealer if you wish tomodify factory-installed equipment or add newequipment. Your dealer is qualified to make suchmodifications or additions without placing the safety ordesign integrity of your boat at risk and withoutinvalidating the warranty.All warranty repairs must be performed by an authorizedWellcraft dealer. Your dealer has been carefully selectedto assist you with your sales and service needs. Yourdealer will be glad to answer any of your questionsabout your new boat. The dealer has a direct interest inyou as a customer and wants to see that your arecompletely satisfied with your purchase. The dealer is inthe best position to help you and has full support andassistance from Wellcraft Marine.Dealer Responsibilities:Your dealer will complete the pre-delivery checklist withyou when you take delivery of your boat. A copy of thechecklist is at the end of this section. Your dealer willalso provide the following services:Should a problem develop that is related to faultyworkmanship or materials, as stated in the LimitedWarranty, you should contact your Wellcraft dealer toarrange for the necessary repair. The dealershould also brief you on obtaining warranty servicefor the boat and major components and introduceyou to the Service Manager. Review the pre-delivery service record with you. Theservice record form must be signed by you and thedealer to certify that the work was performed toyour satisfaction and that your boat is in top-notchcondition and that all components are workingproperly. Sea trial the boat with you and provide a thoroughorientation on the operation of the boat and itssystems. If requested, provide you withcomprehensive instruction in the operation of yourboat and all its installed systems and components.

Boat Owner Responsibilities: Sit down with your dealer and a review the terms ofall warranties. Complete the Wellcraft, engine andmajor component warranty registration cards andmail them to the manufacturers. Fill out the boat information form located in thismanual. Inspect the boat at the time of delivery and reviewthe pre-delivery service record form with yourdealer. The record should be signed by you whenthe orientation is complete and you are satisfiedwith the operation of all systems. Read the boat and equipment owner’s manuals andoperate the boat and all equipment as instructed. Read and follow the engine manufacturer’sinstructions for initial inspection, break in, andservice. Schedule the 20 hour service and make sure allperiodic maintenance is performed as outlined in theboat, engine, and component owner’s manuals. Know your boat and the rules of the road before youuse your boat.upon or a discoloration of the surface of the water orcauses a sludge of emulsion beneath the surface of thewater. Violators are subject to a penalty of 5,000.00.Disposal of Plastics & Other GarbagePlastic refuse dumped in the water can kill fish andmarine wildlife and can foul boat propellers and coolingwater intakes. Other forms of waterborne garbage canlitter our beaches and make people sick. U.S. CoastGuard regulations prohibit the dumping of plastic refuseor other garbage mixed with plastic into the wateranywhere, and restrict the dumping of other forms ofgarbage within specified distances from shore.Marpol TreatyBoats 26 feet or longer must display a sign stating thedisposal regulation of the Federal Water PollutionControl Act. The U.S. Coast Guard has issued theseregulations to implement Annex V of the InternationalConvention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships,1973, commonly known as Annex V of the Marpol(Marine Pollution) Treaty 73/78. They apply to all U.S.boats wherever they operate (except waters under theexclusive jurisdiction of a State) and foreign boatsoperating in U.S. waters out to and including theExclusive Economic Zone (200 Miles.) It is important toknow these regulations and adhere to them.The regulations require U.S. recreational boaters, if yourboat is 26 feet or more in length, to affix one or moreUSCG Trash Dumping Restrictions placards to your boat.The placard warns against the discharge of plastic andother forms of garbage within the navigable waters ofthe United States and specify discharge restrictionsbeyond the territorial sea. (The territorial sea generallyends three nautical miles from the seashore.) Inaddition, the placard must contain the warning that aperson who violates these requirements is liable to civil( 25,000) and criminal (imprisonment) penalties. Theplacard also must note that State and local regulationsmay further restrict the disposal of garbage.Important: Make sure that your dealer checks theenginealignmentduringyourboat’scommissioning and at the 20-hour checkup. Theengine alignment check should be performed inaccordance with the recommended procedures asstated by the engine manufacturer in your engineowner’s manual. Failure to do so could result indrive train damage which is not covered underthe warranty. We recommend that you reference your enginewarranty certificate for initial inspection and servicerequirements.Operators shall display one or more placards in aprominent location and in sufficient numbers so they canbe observed and read by crew and passengers. Theselocations might include embarkation points, food serviceareas, galleys, garbage handling spaces and commondeck spaces frequented by crew and passengers. Werecommend that these placards be installed on all boats.The placards may be purchased from local marinas, boatdealerships and marine equipment suppliers. A specialplacard is available for boats operating on the GreatLakes.Important: It is illegal to discharge waste from yourmarine sanitary device (toilet) into the water in mostareas. It is your responsibility to be aware of and adhereto all local laws concerning waste discharge. Consultwith the Coast Guard, local marina or your dealer foradditional information.Product ChangesWellcraft is committed to the continuous improvement ofour boats. As a result, some of the equipment describedin this manual or pictured in the catalog may change orno longer be available. Wellcraft reserves the rightto change standard equipment, optionalequipment and specifications without notice orobligation. If you have questions about the equipmenton your Wellcraft, please contact your dealer or theWellcraft Customer Service Department.Discharge of OilThe Federal Water Pollution Control Act prohibits thedischarge of oil or oily waste into or upon the navigablewaters of the United States or the waters of thecontiguous zone if such discharge causes a film or sheen14

obligated by law to provide assistance to any individualin danger at sea. However, you should not put your boator crew in a dangerous situation which exceeds yourcapabilities or those of your boat. The 1971 BoatingSafety Act grants protection to a Good Samaritan boateroffering good faith assistance, and absolves a boaterfrom any civil liability arising from assistance given.Note: Some states and localities have legal limitson speed, noise and trailer specifications.It is your responsibility to be aware ofthese laws and limits and to insure thatyour boat complies. Consult with yourlocal Marine Patrol or local Coast Guardoffice.Required EquipmentU.S. Coast Guard regulations require certain equipmenton each boat. The Coast Guard also sets minimumsafety standards for vessels and associated equipment.To meet these standards some of the equipment mustbe Coast Guard approved. “Coast Guard ApprovedEquipment” has been determined to be in compliancewith USCG specifications and regulations relating toperformance, construction, or materials. The equipmentrequirements vary according to the length, type of boat,and the propulsion system. Some of the Coast Guardequipment is described in the Safety Equipment chapterof this manual. For a more detailed description, obtain“Federal Requirements And Safety Tips For RecreationalBoats” by contacting the Boating Safety Hotline 800368- 5647, the Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety atwww.uscgboating.org or your local marine dealer orretailer.Registration and NumberingFederal law requires that all undocumented vesselsequipped with propulsion machinery be registered in theState of principal use. A certificate of number will beissued upon registering the boat. These numbers mustbe displayed on your boat. The owner/operator of a boatmust carry a valid certificate of number whenever theboat is in use. When moved to a new State of principaluse, the certificate is valid for 60 days.In order to be valid, the numbers must be installed tothe proper specifications. Check with your dealer orstate boatin
