New FeaturesThe following new features have been introduced in this version of PowerStore.Functional AreaFeature DescriptionSummary of BenefitsDiscoveryA new method of discovery has been added toPowerStore.PowerStore Appliances can be discovered byproviding a reserved IP address. In addition to discovering PowerStore with adirect connection or remotely with the DiscoveryTool, you now have the option to discoverPowerStore using reserved IP addresses. After discovering PowerStore users can start theinitial set up using this temporary IP address, andthen they can switch to the management IP afterconfiguration. For details, see the PowerStore Planning Guide. The reserved IP address are also available to discoverother appliancesAgentless import of external storage to aPowerStore clusterInstallation of host plugin software on the hostsystems is not required. This feature is independent of the operatingsystem and the multipathing solution on the host, and the front-end connectivity between the hostand the source system. Agentless import does notrequire the installation of host plugin software onthe host, however, you do need to reconfigurethe host application to work with the newPowerStore volumes. Only a one-time hostapplication downtime is required prior to themigration. The downtime only includes renamingor reconfiguring the host application, file systems, and datastores to the PowerStore volumes.Ease of use – The agentless import process is fullyorchestrated by PowerStore. A wizard guides the userthrough the whole process.ImportOnline copying of data between the source systemand PowerStore is automated.Only an iSCSI connection is supported betweenthe source system and the PowerStore cluster. ForDell PS source systems, all the connectionsbetween the hosts and the Dell PS source systemand between the hosts and the PowerStorecluster must be iSCSI. For Dell SC, or Dell EMCUnity, VNX2, XtremIO X1, XtremIO X2 sourcesystems, the connections between the hosts andthe Dell SC, or Dell EMC Unity, VNX2, XtremIO X1,XtremIO X2 source system and between the hostsand the PowerStore cluster must be either alliSCSI or all Fibre Channel (FC).For detailed information about this feature, seethe Importing External Storage to PowerStoreGuide on https://www.dell.com/powerstoredocs .For the most up-to-date supported versions ofsource systems and operating environment for anagentless import, see the PowerStore SupportMatrix.4New Features

Functional AreaFeature DescriptionSummary of BenefitsInstallation andupgradePowerStore X model systems now supportVMware vSphere Remote Office Branch Office(ROBO) licenses. vSphere ROBO Enterprise andvSphere ROBO Advanced licenses are supportedon PowerStore X model systems, but vSphereROBO Standard licenses are not supported.A less expensive VMware vSphere ROBO license canbe used by customers who do not require more than25 VMs per PowerStore X model.NOTE: A vSphere ROBO license supports amaximum of 25 virtual machines.Installation andUpgradeWhile upgrading PowerStore T models, Unifiedhealth check warnings are generated. Themessages are only warnings, and PowerStore willcontinue with the upgrade.Improve user experience of upgrades for Unifiedcustomers.MonitoringImproved user experience by displaying real-timecapacity metrics when the system is in writeprotect mode. This allows the user to view theactual capacity metrics and decide whichresources to delete to free capacity on theappliance.Displaying the accurate metrics consumed by thestorage resources allows the user to decide whichresources to delete in order to free up capacity onthe appliance.Notifications andalertsWhen you add an existing or new appliance toyour PowerStore cluster, there is a chance that itmay be running a different version of thePowerStore OS than the appliances in yourcluster. An alert will now appear in PowerStoreManager when appliances within your cluster arerunning a different version of the PowerStore OS.To ensure that there is no degradation inperformance or loss of access to features, it isrecommended that you follow the prompts andupgrade the software such that all appliances inyour cluster are running the same version of thePowerStore OS.Users are alerted when an appliance, which isrunning a different version of operating system, isadded to a PowerStore cluster.Notifications andAlertsNew FeaturesThe user will receive out of space alerts forNetwork Attached Storage and be notified ofwhich actions are unavailable when an applianceis put in read-only mode due to out of space. The alert text strongly recommends upgrading theappliances in the cluster to a common, andpreferably, the latest OS version.Alerts are raised in the following scenarios:-When adding a new applianceIf NDU fails to complete and renders the appliancesin the same cluster running a different version ofoperating system. At the time the appliance is out of space, users arenotified that:file systems will be in read-only mode.Actions such as volume creation, snap creation, areunavailable because the appliance has been put intoread-only mode.5

Functional AreaFeature DescriptionSummary of BenefitsSecurityDirectory Services for PowerStoreThis feature allows system administrators to connectto authentication services for centralized usermanagement across entire domains. This provides foreasier and more flexible management of system useraccess and authorization to PowerStore appliances. The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP),is an application protocol for querying andmodifying directory services running on TCP/IPnetworks. LDAP helps centralize the managementof network authentication and authorizationoperations. Integrating PowerStore Managerusers into an existing LDAP environment providesa way to control management access based onestablished user and group accounts within theLDAP directory.PowerStore supports the following LDAP servertypes:-Active Directory—a Microsoft directoryservice. It runs on Windows Server andallows administrators to managepermissions and access to networkresources.-OpenLDAP—a free, open-sourceimplementation of LDAP.After you configure the LDAP settings forPowerStore, you can perform user managementfunctions. For example, you can assign accesspermissions to PowerStore Manager based onexisting users and groups, within the context of anestablished LDAP directory structure.ServiceService script “svc volume space metrics” is nowavailable to retrieve volume family level capacityinformation when capacity and performancemetrics are unavailable due to an out-of-spacecondition.When capacity and performance data for a volume isunavailable, you can now use the service script toretrieve the following information for a volume:Volume family IDVolume familyVolume family logical capacity usedVolume family shared logical capacity usedVolume family unique physical capacity usedName of the primary volume (name from CP volumeconfig, empty string ("") if primary volume isdeleted).Type of volumes in the family (block volume, vvol, filesystem volume, storage type in CP volumeconfiguration table)Number of snapshot volumes in the familyNumber of clone volumes in the family6New Features

Functional AreaFeature DescriptionSummary of BenefitsVirtualizationDuring the initial configuration of a PowerStore Xmodel appliance, best practice settings can beautomatically applied to the appliance to enablemaximum performance. This new step in theInitial Configuration Wizard will:The settings needed to achieve maximumperformance on PowerStore X system are nowautomated during Initial Configuration. Applyingthese settings during Initial Configuration is highlyrecommended. However, if the settings are notapplied during Initial Configuration, it is now easier toapply these settings after Initial Configuration.ConnectivityNetworks- Ask the user to provide two additionalstorage IPs, with the wizardautomatically:Mapping the storage IPs asadditional internal iSCSI targetsChanging the internal ESXiqueue depth according to depthaccording to best practices- Allowing the user to change the clusterMTU to 9000, if supported within thecustomer’s environment, according tobest practicesIf the best practice settings were not appliedduring the initial configuration of a PowerStore Xmodel appliance, the steps to apply some of thesettings after the initial configuration have beenautomated. However, not all the configurationsteps have been automated. It is stronglyrecommended that you apply the best practicesduring the initial configuration of an appliance.See KB article HOW17288 PowerStore X Performance Best Practice Tuning or see thePowerStore Virtualization Integration White Paperfor details.New Features7

Functional AreaFeature DescriptionSummary of BenefitsVirtualizationThe PowerStore software upgrade for PowerStoreX model appliances includes a required ESXiupdate for the internal nodes of the appliance. The internal nodes of an existing PowerStore Xmodel appliances must be upgraded to VMwareESXi 6.7 P03, Patch Release ESXi670-202008001(Build: 16713306) before the appliance can beupgraded to this latest version of the PowerStoreOS.The internal nodes on a PowerStore X appliance use anewer version of ESXi that contains bug fixes andsecurity fixes.Installation andUpgradeIn addition to the ESXi update, other PowerStoreX model components are required to be upgradedas well. Resolved IssuesThe following issues have been resolved in this release.Issue IDFunctional AreaDescriptionMDT-208568Connectivity - HostsHosts may disconnect after zone changes are made to zones in a Cisco MDS FibreChannel (FC) switch configured with Registered State Change Notification (RSCN3) format (default from NX-OS 6.2).MDT-168926Connectivity - NetworksA cluster "Network validation failed with unexpected error (0xE0E700001)"message is returned erroneously while validating initial configuration. The erroroccurs because an internal entry for DNS was previously configured.MDT-141081Data CollectionThe line graph for IO Size for values less than 1 KB (for example 512 B) will show as1 KB when you hover over the line. The value in the hover is incorrect, howeverthe representation of the line in relation to the legend is accurate.MDT-148947Data ProtectionFrom a protection perspective, a snapshot of a volume group is a single-point-intime copy of the volume group member volumes. Membership changes to thevolume group prevent snapshot recovery operations, such as restore or refresh, unless the volume group is returned to the same membership state at the timethe snapshot was created. It is recommended that you do not delete the volumesremoved from a volume group until all the snapshots of the volume group eitherexpire or are removed manually. If there are still volume group snapshots, thedelete request for the volume returns the following error: "The Volume volumename (id: unique id ) cannot be deleted until all volume group snapshots takenwhen this volume was a member of a volume group expire or are manuallydeleted." This error does not indicate the name of the volume group that isneeded to delete the volume group snapshots so the volume deletion cansucceed.MDT-194877Data ProtectionWhen using the PowerStore CLI to create a snapshot rule using the time of dayproperty, the request fails with the error: "The specified time of day hh:mmZ isinvalid."MDT-214199HardwarePowering off or rebooting a node from PowerStore Manager generates call homesupport notifications.MDT-221299HardwareNodes rolling reboot might occur when formatting a LUN that is 2 TB in size (or amultiple of 2 TB) with SCSI UNMAP enabled.MDT-168710Internal MigrationIn a PowerStore T cluster with more than one appliance, internal migration ofVolumes or Volume Groups used by Microsoft Windows Failover Cluster mayresult in hosts losing access to storage.MDT-148659Install or UpgradeIf the peer node is inaccessible for too long, the software upgrade can fail.MDT-153335PowerStore CLIThe PowerStore CLI does not show all the required information for metrics when aroll-up result is returned for long interval values.10Resolved Issues

Issue IDFunctional AreaDescriptionMDT-154063PowerStore CLIThe CLI client incorrectly displays embedded arrays of data in tabular output.MDT-142069PowerStoreManager(GUI)There are situations when the system is Out of Space where the UI is unable toupdate its statistics. This situation will be evident by a red banner on the top ofthe screen. You may see objects in the UI that are incorrectly displayed as "0MB/GB/TB" due to the inability for the UI to query for system statistics.MDT-146618PowerStoreManager(GUI)In the Add Host wizard, the Host Protocol step incorrectly includes a prerequisitethat reads, ".FC-based ethernet switch". It should read, "FC-based switch".MDT-149011PowerStoreManager(GUI)On the Hardware Rear View tab for an appliance, once you click Blink LED, thecommand is sent immediately, and the LEDs start to blink. It may take a long timefor the Stop Blink LED button to appear in the GUI.MDT-148153PowerStoreManager(GUI)On the Hardware Rear View tab for an appliance, port abbreviations such asFEPort, hFEPort, and vFEPort may not be intuitive. Port abbreviations indicate thefollowing: FEPort - Physical Frontend Port, hFEPort - Hypervisor Frontend Port,vFEPort - Virtual Frontend PortMDT-166702PowerStore REST APIThe discovered initiator command might fail and return the message "Error:{'reason': 'java.lang.Integer cannot be cast to java.lang.CharSequence.'}".MDT-142562SecurityThe cancel button of the drive re-purpose confirmation dialog does not close thedialog when clicked.MDT-147508Storage - FileSMB Server cannot join the Active Directory when the SMB server computer nameis more than 15 characters and the first 15 characters of the SMB server computername are the same as another SMB server's computer name.MDT-170429Storage - FileDuring manual failover, or failback of the NAS server, the failover, or failbackoperation may fail.MDT-151302Storage - FileIf the network connection is unstable, the DNS may incorrectly be reported asoffline. After restarting the NAS server, the health status of DNS is not cleared ifthe DNS is healthy.MDT-146793Storage - FileUploading configuration files to a NAS server, which were edited in WordPad,does not work as expected.MDT-143448Storage - File"After selecting a file system to delete, the DELETE button is disabled, and nomessage or tool-tip is displayed.MDT-209335SupportAssistAfter enabling SupportAssist, PowerStore Manager displays the connection as“disabled,” even when the connection was successfully enabled. The statusmessage will be corrected after 15 minutes.Resolved Issues11

Issue IDFunctional AreaDescriptionMDT-195104SupportAssistThere is a known issue with the ‘Sent to Support’ field of the Support Materialssettings page. When a “SEND TO SUPPORT” action is taken against a DataCollection, the “Status” field will be set to “UPLOAD SUCCESSFUL”. And the “Sentto Support” field will be given a timestamp almost immediately. This informationreally applies to the fact that the process has been initiated, and the file uploadhas begun, not that the upload has completed. Once the data upload to supporthas been completed (“Which may take up to 24 hours or more”), the “Sent toSupport” timestamp may change to reflect the actual upload completion time. The implications of this is that if asked to send support materials to support, theymay not have been received at the time of the timestamp. Work with yourSupport representative to verify that your materials have been received.MDT-146912VirtualizationIn PowerStore X model, when both ESXi hosts of the appliance are rebootedsimultaneously (for example, due to a power failure), ESXi iSCSI parameters (pathselection policy, Round Robin IOPS limit, number of outstanding IOs withcompeting worlds) of one or both nodes may be reset to the default ESXi values. This may affect IO performance.Known IssuesThe following high severity issues are reported in this release. For a list of the minor issues, see Knowledge Base article SLN320772PowerStore Release Notes – Minor issues at: ue T-152854Connectivity HostsRunning an unmap operation might causea host I/O latency impact of more than15%. You can disable auto-unmap forapplications that have this feature, ormanually schedule an unmap operation toreduce the impact on hosts.Disable auto-unmap for applications thathave this feature. Schedule unmapoperations manually to reduce the impacton hosts.MDT-154342Connectivity HostsWhen you add a host, in rare cases, youmay not see any active sessions orconnected paths for the initiators for upto 10 minutes on the Initiators tab.Do not try adding the host again. Wait for upto 10 minutes for the active sessions toappear.MDT-139488Connectivity HostsXcopy operations can impact host I/Operformance.NoneMDT-155327Connectivity HostsWhen you add a host, in rare cases, youmay not see any active sessions orconnected paths for the initiators for upto 10 minutes on the Initiators tab.Do not try adding the host again. Wait for upto 10 minutes for the active sessions toappear.12Known Issues

Issue T-211358ConnectivityNetworksTDIP stopped advertising on PowerStore3000X model.Perform either one of the following actionsto workaround this issue:Either, wait a few minutes for the state ofthe system to change and try again.orReset Drive, Mezz or I/O Module if availableand wait for few minutes and try again, thenreboot the primary node.MDT-55667Data CollectionStorage container capacity metrics are notavailable until I/O operations have begun.Look at the capacity metrics again after I/Ooperations on the storage container havebeen performed.MDT-220994Data ProtectionThe replication session may not bedeleted once a Protection Policy isunassigned from the storage resource. To delete the replication session, do thefollowing:1. If Protection Policy is not assigned to thestorage resource, reassign the the sameProtection Policy that was previouslyassigned to the storage resource.2. Unassign the Protection Policy from thestorage resource.MDT-133408Data ProtectionWhen a volume group is created withmember volumes and is protected by aprotection policy that includes areplication rule, the volume groupmembers may be delayed in beingreplicated to the remote system until thenext RPO cycle. The default replicationrule RPO value in PowerStore Manager is1 hour, but it can range from 5 minutes to24 hours. If the remote system connection is healthy, the member volumes should automaticallybe replicated to the destination during thenext RPO cycle. To update the membervolumes on the destination before the nextRPO cycle, navigate to Protection- Replication, select the volume group sessionand perform a "Synchronize" operation.MDT-146780Data ProtectionWhen deleting a snapshot rule, thesnapshot rule may not appear to bedeleted, and the following error appears:"The system encountered unexpectedbackend errors. Please contact support.(0xE0101001000C)". Do not continueusing the rule for protection.Delete the snapshot rule again. The sameerror appears, but the rule will be deleted.MDT-117061HardwareWhen beginning cluster creation, thehardware status is incorrectly indicated asnot configured for clustering.Wait a few minutes and try again.Known Issues13

Issue T-190232HardwareThe svc node shutdown command mayreboot the node instead of powering itoff.Run the svc node shutdown commandagain when the node has finished rebooting.MDT-137439ImportIf an import from a Unity or VNX2 systemto PowerStore is cancelled by the user orfails for some reason, it is possible thatsubsequent attempts to import thevolume will also fail.Remove the Unity or VNX2 as a remotesystem and then add it again. This action willclear the issue and allow the import toproceed.MDT-174416ImportHosts groups are not supported foragentless import.NoneMDT-167020InternalMigrationMigration of a storage resource failed withthe error "Transit object with Handle id : status online on only one node."
