KEYNOTE SPEAKERCharles Dziuban is Director of the ResearchInitiative for Teaching Effectiveness at theUniversity of Central Florida (UCF) wherehas been a faculty member since 1970teaching research design and statistics. Hereceived his Ph.D. from the University ofWisconsin. Since 1996, he has directed theimpact evaluation of UCF’s distributedlearning initiative examining student andfaculty outcomes as well as gauging theimpact of online, blended and lecturecapture courses on the university. Chuck has published innumerous journals including Multivariate Behavioral Research, ThePsychological Bulletin, Educational and PsychologicalMeasurement, the American Education Research Journal, the PhiDelta Kappan, the Internet in Higher Education, the Journal ofAsynchronous Learning Networks, and the Sloan-C View. Hismethods for determining psychometric adequacy have beenfeatured in both the SPSS and the SAS packages. He has receivedfunding from several government and industrial agencies includingthe Ford Foundation, Centers for Disease Control, National ScienceFoundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2000, Chuck wasnamed UCF’s first ever Pegasus Professor for extraordinaryresearch, teaching, and service and in 2005 received the honor ofProfessor Emeritus. In 2005, he received the Sloan Consortiumaward for Most Outstanding Achievement in Online Learning by anIndividual. In 2007 he was appointed to the National Informationand Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy Policy Council. In2010, Chuck was named an inaugural Sloan-C Fellow. In 2012 theUniversity of Central Florida initiated the Chuck D. Dziuban Awardfor Excellence in Online Teaching for UCF faculty members inhonor of Chuck’s impact on the field of online teaching.

Chuck has co-authored, co-edited, or contributed to numerousbooks and chapters on blended and online learning includingHandbook of Blended Learning Environments, Educating the NetGeneration, and Blended Learning: Research Perspectives. He hasgiven invited presentations on how modern technologies impactlearning at more than 80 colleges and universities worldwide. Hisnew book Blended Learning Research Perspectives II, co-editedwith Anthony Picciano and Charles Graham was released in the fallof 2013.

CAFÉ PÉDAGOGIQUEWhat is CaféPédagogique?Café Pédagogique is astimulating discussionabout teaching andlearning with technologyin a fun, friendly andrelaxed environmentcomplemented by foodand beverages. The Café was invented by Helen Macfarlane for theCOLTT conference in 2008 and has been held each year since. It isbased on the internationally known Café Scientifique that issimilarly relaxed and participatory.During the Café, people come together in a round-table stylesetting to hear and discuss views on interesting or controversialeducational topics led by someone who is passionate about it. Thetopic leaders get 5 minutes to talk about the subject to bediscussed before there are 25 minutes of questions and answers,and general discussion. The Café is intended to be highlyinteractive and there will be plenty of opportunities for everyoneto share their thoughts and ideas.2014 Topic LeadersThis year's Café Pédagogique will be led by keynote speaker ChuckDziuban and planning committee member Jeff Loats. We lookforward to some great topics and lively discussions.
