Rotary Joints and UnionsIndustry Specific SolutionsPaper Drying The PT2X rotary joint and stationary syphon system isthe ultimate in rotary joint technology for paper machinedryers. It is bracket mounted and designed for speed, durability, and ease-of-maintenance. The ELSX rotary joint is the newest generation of selfsupported rotary joints. It is used in applications where aring bracket mount is not possible. It can accommodaterotating or stationary syphons.Corrugated PackagingThe CorrPro rotary joint is for corrugators running upto and over 1,500 feet per minute. It uses balanced sealtechnology and is the preferred joint by OEMs. It is ringbracket mounted. The LJX rotary joint and rigid syphon system is forcorrugators running up to 1,000 feet per minute and iseasily adaptable to OEM equipment using lug supports. The SX rotary joint is compact in size and is selfsupported. It has two internal support guides and is usedin applications with good alignment, low vibration, andproperly aligned flexible hose piping.Metal ProcessingC-Cast rotary unions are used in continuous castingmachines. With a minimum of moving parts and lowmaintenance requirements, the C-Cast is preferred by steelmakers and OEMs worldwide.BCI rotary unions are bearing cover inserted and appliedto continuous casting steel segment rolls on water service. The ability to handle misalignment, the large flow area, and the simple design make this rotary union a preferreddesign for continuous casting roll segments.Machine Tools The G rotary union is a high performance, high precisionrotary union for coolant or other media. It is generally usedin the machine tool industry for equipment including gundrills, spindles, and CNC machines.4

Rotary Joints and UnionsGeneral Industry SolutionsRotary Joints for Steam and Thermal OilSelf-supported rotary joints come in many configurationsand models. Some are supported internally with a widelyspaced, double guide-design which provides internalsupport for the rotary union. This extends life andmaintains alignment in high-vibration and mis-alignedapplications.Self-supported joints with more narrowly spaced internalsupport guides are more compact in size. They are used inspace constrained applications with good alignment, lowvibration, and properly aligned flexible hose piping.Rotary Unions for Water ServiceRotary unions used in water service feature a highperforming ball bearing design with multiple bearing andseal packages for applications with different pressures, temperatures, and speeds. These rotary unions are capableof intermittent dry running and feature a large internalflow area. They are available in single and dual flowconfigurations.Rotary Unions for Multiple Fluid TypesOver-the-shaft rotary unions are used in applications thatrequire media flow through passages in an existing journal. They seal around the journal to provide leak free fluidtransfer through the ports.Multi-passage rotary unions are used in applications thatsimultaneously transfer one or more types of media intorotating equipment and don’t have an existing journal withpassages. They can transfer any combination of fluid typesin any direction.Custom Rotary Unions Kadant Johnson’s rapid response product innovation teamcan custom-engineer solutions for unique applications ordifferent media. They focus on making the best solution inthe shortest time possible.5

Jet Devices and PumpsThermocompressorsThermocompressors boost low-pressure steam to higherpressures for reuse in multiple applications. This maximizesenergy efficiency by retaining the energy in low-pressuresteam while capturing 100% of the energy in the highpressure motive steam.Desuperheaters Desuperheaters reduce the temperature of superheatedsteam. In many manufacturing processes, superheatedsteam is initially required, but downstream applicationsrequire saturated steam. Desuperheaters atomize and injectcooling water into the superheated steam flow to lower itstemperature. Direct Injection Heaters A direct steam injection heater precisely heats water andother fluids by injecting steam directly into the fluid. Onehundred percent of the steam energy is used to heat thefluid, making it up to 30% more efficient than traditionalheating methods.Liqui-Mover Pumps Liqui-Mover pumps use positive pressure to pumpcondensate with no maintenance-intensive components toleak, wear, or fail. The Liqui-Mover condensate pump willwork longer, with less maintenance and less downtime thanconventional pumps.6

AccessoriesFlexible Hose Flexible hose prevents stress on rotary joints and unionsas well as connected piping due to thermal expansion orvibration. Its flexibility makes installations easier and doesnot restrict the built-in movement of the rotary joint. Syphons Syphons remove condensate from drying systems after heattransfer has occurred. The Kadant Johnson portfolio ofstationary and rotating syphons are tailored to the machinespeed, steam pressure, condensing loads, and blow-throughsteam characteristics of the application. Turbulator Tube Bars Turbulator Tube bars significantly improve the heattransfer rate and uniformity in rolls by inducing turbulencein rimming condensate. Turbulator Tube bars not onlyimprove roll surface temperature profiles, they alsoimprove runnability.Sight Flow Indicators Sight flow indicators are engineered to provide maximumvisual observation of liquid and gas flows throughpipelines. All windows are made of low-thermal expansionborosilicate glass and can be furnished with special micaliners to protect against erosion and corrosion.Vacuum Breakers Vacuums are often caused by cooling fluids and cancause equipment implosion or contamination from backsiphonage. Kadant Johnson’s simple and reliable designprovides instant response to vacuums and a large airventing capacity. They are easy to install and are rigorouslytested for a long service life. 7
