Facts about Career Colleges and Schools and their Students . There are 500 licensed career colleges and schools in Ohio and Michigan that provide professional, technical andcareer-specific programs in 200 occupational areas; granting degrees, diplomas, and certificates. All Ohio Career Colleges and Schools are licensed by the State of Ohio and overseen by the Ohio State Board ofCareer Colleges and Schools. Michigan Career Colleges and Schools are overseen by The Department ofLicensing and Regulatory Affairs and all are approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Many career colleges and schools are nationally and/or regionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission ofCareer Schools and Colleges, The Higher Learning Commission (North Central Association of Colleges andSchools), Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and many more. Career college students account for about 78% of all the business, health and computer graduates; threeoccupations projected to be among the fastest growing jobs through 2019. Approximately 79% of graduates find jobs in their field of study within 90 days of graduation. The average cost of tuition at Ohio and Michigan Career Colleges is less than the 13,000 statewide average forall of Ohio and Michigan’s tax-supported community colleges, state universities, their branches and non-profits. Colleges and Schools are privately owned and operated and not supported by any federal, state, or local taxmoney. The OMACCS LEADS! Scholarship Program for 2019The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools, in cooperation with 23 participating career colleges andschools, is offering more than 100 scholarships. The primary objective of these scholarships is to provide students withthe education and training necessary to obtain a job in an Ohio or Michigan business or industry and encourage studentsto learn more about leadership in their communities.Available scholarships may cover full, one-half tuition, or a specific dollar amount. Awards for each individualscholarship are not transferable to other programs or schools. Finances for the scholarships are borne by the memberschools and colleges and no state or federal funds are involved.Who is Eligible? These scholarships are available to any current high school senior graduating from any Ohio or Michigan HighSchool by June of 2019 The applicant needs a “C” average or better to apply. Students do not have to demonstrate financial need. Each applicant must be nominated by a local civic or community leader or by a current member of the Ohio orMichigan Legislature. Any recipient of a scholarship must be able to meet the college or school’s entrance requirements. Each applicant is eligible to apply for up to three scholarships but must use a separate application for eachscholarship. The scholarship recipient must start classes either the summer or fall term following their high schoolgraduation.

Scholarship Information The scholarship amount will be allocated over the length of the program. Scholarships are not transferable from one school or program to another. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, processing fees, books, lab charges, and student activity fees. A scholarship committee will select the winner for each scholarship. The recipient must meet the requirementsof the college offering the scholarship. Scholarship winners will be notified no later than May 17, 2019Scholarship winners will be posted on the OMACCS website: www.omaccs.org

How to Apply1. Choose school(s) and program(s) from the participating schools listed on the following pages.2. Complete the information on the Scholarship Application and obtain the appropriate signatures.3. Submit two current letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, employers or others with yourapplication.4. A copy of your high school transcript (grades) and attendance records for the past four semesters andverification of your Grade Point Average must be signed by the school guidance counselor or principal and mustaccompany each application.5. Submit a written statement of approximately 250 words explaining why you chose a career in the field you havelisted on this application and why you feel you will be successful in this field. This statement can betyped or handwritten and must be on the standard 8 ½” X 11” paper. Your name, address, phone numberand high school name should be printed in the upper left-hand corner.6. Complete the Nomination Form. Send the form and a short note requesting that a civic leader from yourcommunity nominate you for this scholarship. We suggest that your note include a brief paragraph aboutwho you are and why you want this scholarship. It is acceptable to send the note and the Nomination Formby Email, Fax, or U.S. Mail.7.
