Cabled vs Parallel Design Multi-tube bundles are offered in twoconfigurations Parallel or Flat-Pack – 2 to 3 traced tubesare run parallel before taping & extrusion.In order to get proper heat transfer thisdesign limits the number of tubes to 2 or 3depending on size and temperature.Manufacturers claim the design offers easierinstallation. This is only true for singleplane bends. Multi-plane bends requiretwisting of the bundle to prevent kinking ofinside tube. Cabled – 2 to 6 tubes are cabled around theheater or the heater is cabled around thetubes depending on design. Cabling allowsfor better heat transfer and eliminates theneed for special bending on multi-planeinstallations.

Gravity Fed Sample lines operating above400 F The sample temperature within a gravity fedtubing bundle will cool rapidly makingexpansion only a concern for the first 50’.An additional 1’ should be added for thefirst 50’ of run, thereafter no additionalbundle is required for expansion. Pressurized bundle operating above 400 F The tubing bundle requires an additional 1’of length for every 100’ of run. This may beaccomplished by installing an expansionloop at the midpoint of each run orserpentine the bundle in the cable tray orstrut to take up the additional footage. Ineither case the method of attachment mustallow for movement while still anchoringthe bundle to the cable tray or strut.
