After the presentations, theparticipants were split into smallergroups and cycled through the followinglabs: Dr. Elena Goncharova, Dr. SrutiShiva (represented by Dr. QuyenNguyen), Dr. Marc Simon, Dr. SteveChan, and Dr. Mauricio Rojas. Simmons Center forInterstitial Lung Disease held the First Annual VioletRippy Memorial Lecture on Monday, February 13.Guest Speaker Dr. Ganesh Raghu, who leads the longestrunning IPF Support Group in the United States, presented to over 50 patients and caregivers at this Town Hallmeeting.To broaden the opportunity for other IPF support groupmembers to participate, this was the first meeting to bewebcast (with 13 views) and broadcast on FacebookLive, with over 159 views.Mauricio Rojas and Kathy Lindell lead discussionsFaculty Spotlight-by Sanjay Patel, MD, MSDr. David Kristo is an industrious, highly committed team player and leader in PACCM. Dr.Kristo is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and MedicalDirector of the UPMC Sleep Laboratories at both Oakland and Monroeville. Dr. Kristocompleted his medical training through the US Army including a sleep fellowship at WalterReed Army Medical Center. He rose to the rank of colonel in the US Army as apulmonary/critical care/sleep physician at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany,Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the Bethesda National NavalMedical Center.David Kristo, MDDr. Kristo was recruited to the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and since that time hasbecome a leader in providing high quality sleep medicine care within the UPMC system. Hehas helped modernize the delivery of sleep medicine care establishing remote monitoringof positive airway pressure (PAP) devices as standard of care to help ensure optimaloutcomes in the treatment of sleep apnea. He was among the first to study the role oftelemedicine to improve the care of patients with sleep disorders. As sleep lab director, Dr.Kristo ensures the highest quality of laboratory testing in the only American Academy ofSleep Medicine (AASM) accredited adult sleep laboratories in greater Pittsburgh.Dr. Kristo is nationally recognized as an expert in sleep medicine, having co-authoredclinical practice guidelines on the management of obstructive sleep apnea, REM behaviordisorder and nightmare disorder. Since 2014, Dr. Kristo has balanced his clinical responsibilities at UPMC with serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of SleepMedicine. Importantly, with the prior departures of faculty sleep providers, David has donean extraordinary job of increasing his effort to support the critical mission of provision ofexcellent, timely care in the sleep clinical operation.

AASM accreditation is thehighest level of accreditation available for sleep labs in thenation.
