Kings Student Activities GuideClubAcademic/Special InterestAdvisorAcademic QuizTeamThe Academic Quiz team (AQT) is an ECC leaguesponsored team. The AQT plays a league schedule versussix other ECC schools. The ECC league tournamentculminates the season with the winner given a berth in theState of Ohio AQT tournament. The format of the matchesconsists of four rounds with different academic categoriessuch as American literature, world history, math andphysical science. A league match consists of two varsityand one junior varsity match. Match questions areanswered both in teams and individually with a buzzersystem. A freshman squad will be formed if there isenough interest.Alex GarvinAnime ClubArt ClubStudents watch anime episodes as well as create their own.They design skits, characters and stories. Students stayabreast of upcoming events in the world of anime.The Kings Art Club is open to any KHS student interestedin art. Students may join to further improve an individualportfolio or to work with others on group projects. Thepurpose of the club is to provide its members with a varietyof artistic experiences that would not ordinarily be taught orexperienced in the art classes. Come Sing at Kings!Hope MilthalerColor GuardThe Kings High School Color Guard is a section in theaward winning Marching Band. The color guard isresponsible for portraying visually the music and the windthat percussionists are playing. They do this by dancingand with the use of equipment including flags, rifles andsabers. The guard performs with the marching band atcompetitions, football games and parades. Auditions areheld in May. All color guard members are required to attendall summer practices if they are not on vacation. There isalso a mandatory 2-week band camp to attend in July.Rehearsals are held every Monday and Wednesdayevenings during school. Football games are Friday nights.Competitions are on the weekends. Color guard membersstare required to schedule Guard Class in their 1 semesterclass schedule. Dance TeamDrumlineFall PlayFellowship ofChristianAthletesThe Kings High School Dance Team consists of girls fromthththe 9 through 12 grades. Tryouts for JV and Varsityteams are held each Spring. Team members are requiredto attend a dance camp in July. Practices begin in midAugust and continue through the school year untilFebruary. The Dance Team performs at Knight Madness,Men’s and Women’s basketball games, pep rallies,parades, dance competitions and community events. Moreinformation can be obtained through the Kings AthleticDepartment.The Kings Drumline is a group that provides high-energypercussion and drum performances. This group is part ofthe Marching Band’s organization but practices andperforms throughout the year and at different events andcompetitions.This activity commences with auditions in late August orearly September. Rehearsals begin immediately, andperformance dates range from early November to earlyDecember. Rehearsals are typically after school two tothree days per week. An attempt is made to exposestudents to a variety of styles during their four years of highschool, ranging from comedy to tragedy, modern toclassical. Students learn how to be watchable and listento-able in addition to gaining leadership and teamworkskills.Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a student-ledorganization designed to bring together students who sharecommon beliefs. The club also debates the impact of films in today’ssociety. This group meets at 2:45pm every Tuesday in Mr.Wright’s room. Students create a film at the end of the yearbased on the movies watched during the year.Frank WrightFrench ClubFrench Club is open to students who have taken French inthe past, or they may be currently enrolled in French 1,2,3,4or 5. The purpose of French Club is to promote an interestin French culture and cuisine. Students do variousactivities centering around “La Vieille de Tourssaint”, (allSaints’ Eve), (Christmas), Mardi Gras, etc. Since food issuch an important aspect of the French way of life, studentsgo to a French restaurant to experience authentic Frenchcuisine in the Spring.Kathy DaggyGerman ClubGerman Club provides opportunities to enhance students'awareness of the German-speaking culture and toencourage further study of the German language. These students meet in order to study differentcases and attend competitions during which membersenact different roles as attorneys, witnesses or bailiffs.Montage magazine is an annual publication of Kings HighSchool which features excellent examples of student writingand artwork. The members of the Montage staff areresponsible for evaluating and selecting the literary and artpieces that are included in the magazine, and membersparticipate in its design and layout. This student team isopen to all high school students who have an interest increative writing and/or graphic design.MathematicsTeamThe Kings High School Mathematics Team is for studentswho enjoy mathematical problem solving. Team membersparticipate in various mathematics contests, which can leadto scholarships or improve your chances of being acceptedto a competitive college mathematics program. To be amember in the coming year you must be nominated by yourcurrent mathematics teacher, or be a current member of themathematics team.National HonorSociety(NHS)The mission of NHS is to foster academic and personalgrowth as well as to provide members with leadership andservice opportunities in order to serve the greater good.The NHS is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniorswith a GPA of at least 3.75. Pep BandThe KHS Pep Band is a school-spirit organization thatperforms at selected school events. The music performedby the Pep Band is high-energy and fun-filled and works tomake KHS a great place for fans.PhilanthropyClubThis organization is fully dedicated to reaching out to thecommunity, giving our students new opportunities forexperience through volunteering and achieving the honor ofgiving selected charity groups money to better advance thecommunity. The goal of the club is to teach students aboutgiving, while giving the opportunity to raise money, givegrants and get involved with local non-profit groups on theboard level.Ping Pong ClubThis club meets every Friday after school. Matches includesingles and doubles play to ensure everyone receivessufficient playing time. There is an end of year tournament.Jennifer ReederRob RobisonEmily CowanStudents are taught how to develop their confidence whilelearning how to defend themselves. Students acquireproper defensive skills, enabling them to ward off mostpersonal assaults. The club meets after school in an areathat gives the participants plenty of room to safely practice.Jorge GonzalezSHARK ClubStudents Helping Animal Rescues at Kings – This clubmeets the first Wednesday of every month. SHARK’smission is to raise awareness in the Kings community aboutissues dealing with animals such as animal testing, animalcruelty, pet training, pet care, strays and animal testing.This group also seeks out support of our lawmakers toimprove the lives of all animals.Erin BeanSki ClubThe Kings Ski Club is open to all 7 through 12 gradestudents at Kings. The group travels after school to PerfectNorth Slopes four Wednesdays in January (except examweek) if weather permits. This clubs offers the student anopportunity to ski or snowboard at every level--beginner toadvanced. Information is distributed at the end ofSeptember/early October and is posted on Junior High andHigh school websites. Pray for snow--lots of it!Spanish ClubSpanish Club provides opportunities to enhance students'awareness of the Spanish speaking culture and toencourage further study of the Spanish language. Students will create the set, work the stage,and complete the performance under the director’sguidance. This exciting activity presents opportunities for agreat experience for students of varying talents andinterests.Spirit Club’s goal is to promote school spirit while in school,at sporting events and pep rallies.The Kings High School Symphony Orchestra is open to allstudents in grades 9 – 12 who play violin, viola, cello ordouble bass. This performance-based class meets daily todevelop aspiring musicians. Being a part of thisorganization will provide you the opportunity to perform invarious settings such as pit orchestra, full orchestra, andsmall ensembles. Winter GuardYearbookThe award winning Kings High School Winter Guard is ateam with National Recognition. The Winter Guard is anextension of the marching band color guard giving themembers a chance to perform during the winter when bandis over. Winter Guard is just the guard members performinga show indoors on a basketball court to recorded music.We are members of the Tri-State Pageantry of the Artswinter guard circuit and Winter Guard International (WGI).Members receive intense training on dance and equipmentand compete across the country. The season runs from lateNovember to mid April. All competitions are on theweekends. There are no auditions for this team; membersmust have been in the Fall Color Guard with the MarchingBand.
