Plymouth Harbor’sApproach to aNew Normal

Plymouth Harbor’sOverarching Goal:To provide the safest environment possibleduring a major weather emergency whilecomplying with all social distance regulations.

Plymouth Harbor’sApproach to a New NormalPrimary challenges: Finding a new model with our sheltering partners due to social distancing Reduced capacity at IL shelter (FCCUCC)due to social distancing A nervous and tired roster of team members (COVID-19 impact)Primary opportunities: A new building on campus built to current hurricane standards (AL/MC) New hurricane-grade windows by 9/15/20 A nervous and tired roster of team members committed to the process Excellent working relationship with Sarasota County EmergencyManagement

Edward J. McCraneEmergency Management Chief for Sarasota CountyThe key challenges facing Emergency Management Svcs.:1. Reduced capacity at congregate shelter sites due to social distancingrequirements2. Increased protective measures of screening, masks, and social distancingat shelters3. Screening and testing of EOC Staff before lockdown4. Reduction in staffing at Emergency Operations Center5. Influx of evacuees from Southwest Florida if track is from the south.

Plymouth Harbor’sApproach to a New NormalBest Practice to Accomplish Our Goals: Understanding and complying with the expectationsof the Department of Emergency Services Determining how best to obtain permission neededto move forward with a sheltering in-place thishurricane season

THE HARBOR Paradise Bay, sometimes known as Beaver Harbor, St. James Harbor or simply "The Harbor," is a remarkable example of a natural, sheltered harbor. It is extremely popular with boaters, as is evidenced by the many public and private docks that dot its shores, as well as the many boats that pepper its waters throughout the summer months.
