Do I believe and act like is imminent?(7:1-4,12) Five years after this prophecy, the Babylonians will lay siege onJerusalem, and one year later Jerusalem will be destroyed fulfillingall of Ezekiel’s prophecies.1 Peter 4:7 – The end of al things is at hand.James 5:9 – Behold, the Judge is standing at the door.Revelation 22:20 – “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come,Lord Jesus!

Application #1 – If I knew that I was going to die or Jesus wasgoing to return in 6 years, what would I do NOW? Invite Christ into my life and get baptized TODAY! Repair a relationship with so-n-so Spend significantly more time with my family and friends Share the Good News of Jesus with so-n-so Other2. Do I have any in my life? (8:1-18) The date is September 17, 592 BC. This is fourteen months afterthe vision in Chapter 1-5 that resulted in Ezekiel laying on his side.Ezekiel witnessed three blatant acts of idolatry:(1) 70 elders worshipping images on the wall of creatures (8:7-13)(2) Women worshipping a Babylonian false god (8:14-15)(3) 25 leaders worshipping the sun (8:16-18)Kyle Idleman: “Anything in the world can be hammered into an idol, and therefore can be a false god, if misplaced at the top spot of ouraffections.”Henry Blackaby: “An idol is anything you turn to for help instead offirst turning to God.”Application #2a – What are my idols? Seven questions that showwhere my affections lie: What disappoints me? What do I complain about the most? Where do I make financial sacrifices? What worries me? Where is my sanctuary? Where do I go when I am hurting? What infuriates me? What are my dreams?Don Williams: “We become like what we worship. Worship money, become a greedy person. Worship sex, become a lustful person.Worship power, become a corrupt person. Worship Jesus, becomea Christ-like person. We become like what we worship.”Application #2b – With God’s help, I choose today to dethrone myidols and to enthrone Jesus Christ in my life. I choose to worshipJesus alone. I choose to turn to Him for help first and most.3. Do I have for the sins of mycommunity and nation? (9:4) It’s interesting that the angel was not just to mark people who werenot committing idolatry, but he was to mark people who weresincerely burdened (sighing and groaning) over the idolatry in theircity and nation.Application #3 – What am I burdened about? What do I sigh andgroan over? What is truly burdening my heart?Psalm 119:136 (The Message) – I cry rivers of tears becausenobody’s living by Your Book!

4. What can I do to promote in mycommunity and nation? (9:9) Ezekiel 22:4,7 – You have become guilty by the blood that youhave shed . Father and mother are treated with contempt in you;the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and thewidow are wronged in you.Application #4a – If God were to give America a Justice ReportCard, what kinds of grades would we get in our treatment of OrphansWidowsThe elderlyThe unbornPeople of a different skin color than our own Single MomsImmigrantsOur parentsApplication #4b – In order to promote justice in my community andnation, I am going to Volunteer at the Pregnancy Help Center:https://www.phckaty.org/ Minister relationally to international students through ourNovember (25 Blessings) International Hoedown on Saturday,November 6: https://www.whatisgrace.org/local-missions Get involved with Houston Welcomes Refugees:https://www.houstonwelcomesrefugees.com/ Engage in a 10-week “Be the Bridge” racial reconciliationexperience in the Spring: https://www.whatisgrace.org/adults Get to know someone of a different skin color than my ownthrough Unity Table: https://unitytable.com/ Every 5th weekend, dine with someone who doesn’t look like me. Next Oct 30-31. Investigate fostering or foster-to-adoptA group of people with a vision to empty the Texas foster system aregathering on Sunday, October 17, from 4:00-6:00pm at GraceFellowship in the Vista (2nd floor of white building with the greenroof). Guest speaker Scott Batson (Pathways) will give an overview ofthe foster system in Texas and discuss ways to help.5. What will I do with ? (11:22-23) Chapters 9-11 shows the progression of God’s glory leaving theTemple: rising from above the Ark of the Covenant moving to thethreshold (9:3; 10:4), and then moving to the East gate of the outercourt (10:18-19), and finally leaving the Temple complexcompletely and moving out to the Mount of Olives (11:22-23).Charles Feinberg: “There is an interesting Midrash commentarywhich reads: ‘Rabbi Jonathan said, Three years and a half theShekinah stayed upon the Mount of Olives, in the hope that Israelwould do penance; but they did none.’ All the readers of the NewTestament know this was the length of the earthly ministry of ourLord to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Sadly enough, theydid not repent and He did depart from them.”

The departure of God’s glory from the Temple is devastatinglysignificant! God has set the ultimate boundary! He will NOT toleratesin and rebellion, and if His people will not repent (truly turningaway from their idolatry), then He is leaving! The story of God’s glory is the mega-theme story of the wholeBible:o God’s glory is fully present with Adam and Eve in the Garden ofEden (Genesis 2-3).o When Adam and Eve sin, God drives them out of the Garden(away from His glory), and God stations cherubim angels toguard and prevent their reentry (Genesis 3:24). But God has aplan to reunite His people with His glory (Genesis 3:15).o God’s glory hovers above the Ark of the Covenant in thetabernacle leading His people as a cloud by day and a fire bynight (Exodus 13:21-22; Numbers 10:34-36).o God’s glory fills Solomon’s Temple at its dedication as God’sglory hovered over the Ark of the Covenant in the Temple (2Chronicles 5:7-14).o God’s glory leaves the Temple when God could no longertolerate His people’s sin, rebellion, and idolatry. His glorymoved to the Mount of Olives (Ezekiel 11:22-23) and then toHeaven.o God’s glory returned in the Person of Jesus Christ who rodeinto Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives (Matthew 21:1; John1:14). We rejected Him, and Jesus left the Temple through theEast gate (Matthew 21:17). We crucified Him. He was buried. And on the third day, He rose from the dead defeating sin, death, and the devil (Colossians 2:13-15).o The resurrected Christ will live inside anyone who believes andreceives Him (John 1:12). The King of glory lives inside ofbelievers transforming us from one degree of glory to anotheras we behold His Face in our lives (2 Corinth 3:17; 4:6).o Christ will return one Day to the Mount of Olives (Zechariah14:4; Acts 1:11). He will vanquish all evil, and He will return toa new Temple through the East gate (Ezekiel 43:1-4).o Believers will dwell forever with the Lord in the Heavenly Cityand will behold His glory continually (Revelation 21:22-22:5).Application #5 – I choose to allow the King of Glory (Jesus) to liveand dwell and lead and be King of my life NOW.2 Corinthians 3:17-18 – Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where theSpirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiledface, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into thesame image from one degree of glory to another. For this comesfrom the Lord who is Spirit.
