I made that request inJuly pursuant to directions from Mark Huegel and TedCallicott. (State sponsors from Grand Lodge) At thatpoint I was led to believe that money be available tocover some damages. I did receive detailed feedbackform those of you whose Lodges and members wereaffected. I want to take this opportunity to thank all ofyou for your time and effort. I took this information tothe Feb. State Trustees meeting and shared it with them.

No one there seemed to know how and where to proceedwith this. After that meeting I sent a letter to State SponsorTed Callicott requesting him to provide us with detailedinformation on the issue at our Spring Convention. Hedid so, but the information was very disappointing andcontrary to what I have always been led to believe.Emergency money provided by the Elks NationalDisaster Relief Program is only available to be usedfor immediate assistance for emergency goods such asfood, clothing, sanitary supplies, etc. No money is to beused for reconstruction. Further any money donated byLodges across the country for disaster victims in anotherstate actually goes to Grand Lodge to replace moneyused for the above-stated needs. Thus if more money isdonated by Lodges than what was spent by Grand Lodgeprobably gained a lot of money through all of our Katrinadonations. I don't know about you, but when I donatedfor Katrina victims and helped raise money for that need,I really thought that money was going to them.I am very sorry for giving you false hope regardingpotential flood assistance. When I set out to collect thisinformation, I had every reason to believe we wouldbe able to help our members in some way. I can onlyconclude that as for me, I will be sending any futuredonations for disaster relief directly to the effected Lodgeor member.MarilynTrustees/House CommitteeMINUTES 12/1/08I.
