Measure between postsand cut rails to same length.When measuring, cutequal lengths from eachside of railing allowinga minimum of 1-3/4" oneach end from the lastbaluster hole to the end of the rail. This will ensureproper baluster and bracket placement and equalspacing of balusters per each railing section.Top Rail5a. P osition brackets oneach end of TOP RAILon the same side asbaluster holes. HOW TO INSTALL TREX HORIZONTAL RAILING/CONTINUEDTREX ENHANCE Attaching Brackets toRails5bBottom Rail5b. P osition brackets oneach end of BOTTOMRAIL on the OPPOSITESIDE of the balusterholes. Attach bracketsusing three#8-18x1" self-drillingscrews (provided)Assembling Railing Section6a6b6a. On a clean flat surface lay bottom railing on its side.Make sure to allow enough room for installationof balusters and top rail. Place a scrap piece of1" decking board running parallel to bottom rail forsupport when installing balusters.6b. Insert balusters into bottom rail slots until balustersare fully seated.6cInstalling RailingSection to Posts7a. Using scrap material(i.e. 2 x 4s, deckingboards, etc.) cut at leastthree support blocks at3-3/4" in height. Placeone each on deckingsurface beside eachpost and one nearcenter of span.7b. Lift secured railingsection up, andCENTER this section inbetween the spannedposts on pre-positionedsupport blocks.7a3-3/4"7bNOTE: To help stabilizerailing section use a quickgrip clamp (or other type ofclamp) and clamp the first baluster to post sleeve.(DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN CLAMP.)7c6d7c. Install both bottom and top brackets on each sideto post using two #8-10x2" wood screws (provided).For best results, set drill to low speed wheninstalling these screws.6c. Attach top rail to balusters, feeding each balusterinto required slots. Start on one end and worktowards the other.6d. To help temporarily secure the railing sectiontogether, place a ratchet strap around the topand bottom rail and tighten until snug. DO NOTOVERTIGHTEN AS YOU CAN BEND THE RAILING.Attaching Post Capsand Installing NewFoot Block8. S ecure post capswith silicone or PVCadhesive. P lace inverted Enhancetop rail (orient properlyso baluster holes areshown top side up),on the deck board,centered in bothdirections to allow finalattachment to post.8. Secure deck boardto Select top rail with#8-3/4" truss-headself-drilling screws(not provided) approx.every 16" on center.Screws are to beinstalled inside of thebaluster holes into thedecking board. DONOT overtighten.7NOTE: A long drill bit will be required to fit inside thebaluster holes.9. Assembling Railing SectionsSee instructions on page 3.10. Installing Railing Sections to Posts See instructions on page 3.11. Bottom railbrackets may needto be slightly offset toone side in order to fitproperly to hold rail inplace. I n order for balusters toseat properly (dependingon the angle of the stairrailing), the balustersmay need to be trimmedto match the angle of thebottom and top railing.3b11. S et bottom railing on nose of stair treads and setbaluster at 90º on the outside of the railing, markand measure the angle.» In most cases, a longer post and post sleeve willbe needed on the lower section of stair rail toaccommodate stair angle. DO NOT cut this post/post sleeve until desired height is determined.» Make sure top and bottom posts for stairs areinstalled at nose of each tread.Measuring and Cutting Railings22. Set railing along the nose of the stair treads, makingsure baluster holes are vertically aligned and markline at each intersection. When measuring, cutequal lengths from each side of railing allowinga minimum of 2" on each end from the lastbaluster hole to the end of the rail. This willensure proper baluster and bracket placement andequal spacing of balusters per each railing section.NOTE: Measure, mark and cut a scrap board to ensureyou have proper angle BEFORE cutting balusters onangle.3c. Cut the VERY ENDof baluster, both topand bottom, makingsure that point-to-pointmeasurement of thebaluster remains at32".3c32"IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING FOOT BLOCKINSTALLATION:» Determine which style of foot block is included perinformation shown previously.» Refer to detailed instructions included with foot blockprior to installation to stair railing section. On theBOTTOM RAIL, attach the assembled top stairbracket to the OPPOSITE SIDE of the balusterholes. Attach both brackets using three #8-18x1"self-drilling screws (provided).Lower Stair Post Locations5d. Snap the bottomstair adaptor bracket(labeled BOTTOM) tothe standard bracket.Repeat for remainingbracket.Lower Stair Post Locations5eTop Rail15b5d2Bottom Rail125e. Assemble a few of the balusters into the bottomand top railings (make sure balusters are settingat 90º) and set this on scrap material clearing thestair treads to determine where bracket locationsneed to be. Measure to make sure that the bottomrailing will clear the stair treads and the top railingwill be aligned with horizontal railing (rememberin most cases, a longer post and post sleeve willbe needed on the lower section of stair rail toaccommodate stair angle).6b. After locatingappropriate positionfor bottom rail removetop rail and balustersand attach bottom railstair bracket to upperpost using two #810x3" wood screws(provided).6b6c. Attach bottom stairrail stair bracket tolower post using two#8-10x3" wood screws(provided). For bestresults set drill to lowspeed when installingthese screws.6c8a. Place top rail ontobalusters, allowing thetop rail to rest on thesurface of the balusters.8a8b. Attach top stair railbracket to upper postusing two #8-10x3"screws (provided). Forbest results set drillto low speed wheninstalling these screws.8b8c. Attach top stair railbracket to lower postusing two #8-10x3"screws (provided).
