General InformationThe Series700 Turbine Spray Guncan spray mostcoatings or finishes currently being used for automotive refinish, industrial, aerospace, marine, wood, plastic and architectural applications. This spray gun typically utilizes 5 psi (0.34 bar) forCX-7 and CX-8 and 6 psi (0.41 bar) forthe CX-9inbound air pressure to produce high quality paintfinishes. Thegun produces a cone of airthat carriesand directs the paint from the gun to the surface, minimizing overspray and increasing transfer efficiency. This enablespainters to comply with newclean air lawsthat are designed to reduce VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, easespaintapplication by requiring fewer paint passes to obtaincoverage, and saves on both material and clean-uptime.Refer to theturbine gun manual, 308-336, for moreinformation on the operation and use of the turbinespray gun.Unpack the Graco Turbine Sprayerfrom the shippingcarton and inspect for anypossible shipping damage. If necessary, call the Graco Customer Servicetollfree number at 800-328-021 1.The contentsof the CX-7 Turbine Sprayer,ModelM70102, includes:1 CX-7 Turbine Sprayer, M727811 Turbine Gun, M703081 20 ft. hose, M715801 SprayerInstruction Manual, 308-42201 GunInstruction Manual, 308-336The contentsof the CX-8 Turbine Sprayer,ModelM70122, includes:00001 CX-8 Turbine Sprayer,M727821 Turbine Gun, M703611 20 ft. hose, M715801 2qt. cup, M709621 20 ft. braided air hose, M7158810 wire ties, M711791 male, quick disconnect, M706751 SprayerInstruction Manual, 308-4221 Gun Instruction Manual, 308-336The contentsof the CX-8 bare sprayer,ModelM71282, includes:1 CX-8 Turbine Sprayer, M727821 SprayerInstruction Manual, 308-,422The contentsof the CX-9 Turbine Sprayer,ModelM70136, includes:1 CX-9 Turbine Sprayer, M72783001 Turbine Gun, M703081 20ft. hose. Prepare the Fluid1 . Always strainthe fluid before spraying;thisincludes color, reducerand hardeners if used.2. When using a turbine spraysystem, you needtouse a slowerdrying reducer or thinner to compensate forthe faster drying timecaused by thewarm air ofthe turbine. Do not over reduce.Accessory Remote Pressure PotWARNINGCAUTIONThe performanceof theturbine sprayer will varywith theviscosity of the material. Unnecessaryhoselength will cause the air pressureto drop.Paint Reduction- Automotive Type FinishesReduce and catalyze all paint to manufacturer's specifications. To compensate for the fasterdrying time ofturbine systems, use a reducer one-step slower thanwhat is used for conventional air spray.The.accessory remote pressurepots remain pressurized until pressure is manually relieved. Toreduce the risk of seriousinjury from pressurizedfluid or accidentalspray from thegun, alwaysrelieve pressurein thepressure pot before loosening or removing the cover.1.Relieve theremote pressure pot pressure by following these steps:a. Turn ofi the air supply to thepressure pot.b. 2 1/2 Gallon RemotePot: Pull the pressurerelief valvering (205) until pressure iscompletely relieved.2 Quart RemotePot: Turn out the pressurerelief knob (113) about oneturn. Wait untilpressure is completely relieved before removing the cover. Close theknob before usingthe3.system again. See Fig.-Paint Reduction Industrial or Domestic CoatingsReduce and catalyze all paint to manufacturer's specifications. If no reductions are given, firstthoroughlymix thefluid to be sprayed. Then gradually mixin theproper reducer, testing the fluid until you have the correct spraying consistency. To test the consistency: Removethe stir stick from thethinned paint. When the.paintstream running off thestir stick breaks into droplets, the first fewdropsshould be aboutone second apart.Fill the Cup or Remote Pressure PotSpray GunCupWARNINGThe spray gun cupis pressurized by the gun'sairsupply. To reduce therisk of seriousinjury frompressurizedfluid or accidentalspray from the gun, always turn off the airsupply to the gun beforeremoving thespray gun cup. Fig. 3Only fill the cup 3/4 full to help keepthe air pressuretube clean, then install the cover. Theunder-cup cover has alatch (H)to secure it to the cup. CAUTIONIf the 2 quart remotepressure pot is accidentallytipped over or held at too great of an angle, fluidmay leak into the air regulator. Takeprecautions toavoid this. If fluid does get into the regulator, cleanit immediately.CAUTIONDo not tighten the pressurepot cover morethanhand-tight. Excessive tightening may damage thecover gasket.1. Turn the turbine ona fewminutes before youStartspraying to allow forwarm-up time.NOTE: When theturbine is not inuse foran extended periodof time, turn it off. The turbine does notshut off automatically.2.Be sure theturbine filter is clean beforeoperating.the filter.See page 9 to check and cleanPrepare the Surfaceto be SprayedNOTE: To adjust the spraygun pattern, seethe turbine gunmanual 308-336.To achieve proper adhesion, make sure the surface tobe sprayedis completely clean.CX-8 Cold Weather OperationOperating the TurbineWARNINGSparking can be expected in the normal operationof theturbine motor. Sparkscould ignite fumesfrom flammableliquid, dust particles and otherflammable substances in the spray area, andcause seriousinjury and propertydamage. Besure to followthe precautions below:00When flammable liquid is sprayed or usedforflushing or cleaning equipment, the turbinemust be placed at least20 feet (6.1 m) awayfrom areas where hazardousconcentrations offlammable vapors are likelyto occur.Turbine SprayModel CX-8 has adiaphragm compressor. Whenthis compressors is new, the diaphragmwill become stiff incold weather. If cold enough, thestiff diaphragm will not allow the compressorto start(the unit will hum). Ifthis occurs, follow these steps:1. Turn the turbine and compressoroff.2.Unplug the turbine from thepower source.3. Loosen.thefour main filter screwsand remove thefilter; replace the main filterand pre-filter if theyare dirty.Use additional air hose if necessary to ensurethat the turbine is operatedin a clean, dry, wellventilated area.4.Never place the turbine inside a spraybooth!Use this equipment outdoors or extremelyinwell ventilated areas.5. Reassemble the turbine.Avoid allignition sources such as static electricity from plastic drop cloths, open flamessuch as pilot lights, hot objects suchas cigarettes, arcs fromconnecting or disconnectingpower cordsor turning light switches on andoff. Extinguish or remove all sourcesof ignition.8 308-422Hand spin the cooling fan on the compressor fora few revolutions.6. Plug in the turbine andturn compressor on.Thecompressor should start.

ShutdownWARNINGThe 2 qt spray gun cups and accessow'remotepressure potsremain pressurizeduntil pressure ismanually relieved. To reduce the risk of seriousinjury from pressurizedfluid or accidental spraypressure in the cup orfrom the gun, always relievepressure pot before checking servicingoranypariof the spray system; before installing, cleaning orchanging fluid nozzles; before loosening orremoving the accessory remotepressure pot cover: andwhenever you stopspraying.1, When spraying is finished, release thegun triggerand turn off the airsupply to the gun.E2. Turn off the turbine sprayer.WARNINGThe turbine hoseoutlet may be hot. Carefullycheck the hose endbefore removing the hose,u3. If using a remote pressurepot, relieve its pressureby followingthese steps:02882a. Turn off the air supply tothe pressure pot.b. 2 112 Gallon RemotePot: Pull the pressurerelief valvering (205) until pressure is completely relieved.2 Quart fiemote Pot: Turn out thepressurerelief knob (113) about one turn. Wait untilpressure is completely relieved before removing the cover. Closethe knob before usingthesystem again.See Fig.4.NOTE: Elevate the spray gun andpull the trigger.
