Drexel UniversityCollege of Nursing and Health ProfessionsOnline Learning Technical Guidelines**PLEASE READ—IMPORTANT INFORMATION**To access your Winter Quarter 17-18 Blackboard courses please log in at http://learn.dcollege.netStudents in online courses need a high degree of self-motivation to compensate for the absence of aclassroom and face-to-face faculty interaction. Instructors set specific deadlines for work throughout theterm and require class participation via live/synchronous virtual classroom meetings, threadeddiscussions, and regular email communication. Class participation is critical to your success in onlinecourses and instructors factor this into your grade. You should be comfortable with basic computer skills, including: Researching topics via the WebUsing Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc)Sending and receiving emailAttaching, sending, and opening documentsParticipating in online chatsFunctioning in library databasesBlackboard Learn Supported Browsers & Operating Systems:Generally, the best Blackboard Learn experience is with a current version of the Mozilla Firefox orChrome browser. The best practice is to use Firefox, and if something does not display correctly, try usinga different browser. Please know that this will be a continuing issue because it is a result of the constant push to refine andupgrade all of the web browsers and Blackboard has to constantly test and refine their code to make sureit works with the newest web browsers.Quarter 17-18 Guidelines for Online Courses01/05/18 - ccf25

Blackboard Learn Supported Browsers & Operating Systems:For the best Blackboard Learn experience with your screen reader, use Firefox and JAWS on a Windows system. On a Mac use Safari and VoiceOver. Visit the Accessibility topic to learn more about Blackboard's approach to accessible software.Supported BrowsersAndroid BrowserDesktop OS Browser VersionsMobile and Tablet OS BrowserVersions*36 35 Not AvailableChromeEdge20 Firefox31 Internet Explorer11Safari6 4 20 UnsupportedUnsupported6 * Mobile versions of these browsers aren't supported for Blackboard Learn 9.1 at this time, although usersmay have success using them. Blackboard Learn with the Ultra experience is compatible with thesebrowsers on mobile and tablet devices.** Google Chrome versions 42 and Microsoft Edge do not support NPAPI-type plug-ins, including Javaplug-ins and many media browser plug-ins. Blackboard doesn't support these browsers for use in thefollowing circumstances: 1) with embedded media types that require third-party NPAPI plug-ins forviewing and 2) the multiple-file upload interface located in the Content Collection, although the othermultiple-file upload interfaces are supported on these browsers.Tested devices and operating SystemsA variety of devices and operating systems were used to test the supported browsers. Support is notlimited to these specific operating systems. The desktop browser versions above are supported regardlessof the particular device or operating system on which they run.CategoryOperating SystemsIOS DevicesAndroid DevicesWindows Mobile DevicesChrome OS DevicesTestedWindows 7, Windows 8,/8.1 (except RT edition), Windows 10, Mac OS 10.8, MacOS 10.9, Mac OS 10.10, iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, Chrome OSiPod Touch , iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S, iPhone5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPad 2, iPad 3,iPad Mini 3, iPad Air 2Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, HTC G1, LG C800 myTouch, HTC One, Galaxy Note 2014,HTC One M8Venue 8 Pro, Lumia 520, Lumia 930Chromebook (Chrome browser; features requiring NPAPI plug-ins are notsupported)Quarter 17-18 Guidelines for Online Courses01/05/18 - ccf25

Java and other browser pluginsA handful of features in Blackboard Learn require particular additional software to be installed. Withoutthese, the features themselves do not function. The following Blackboard Learn features have pluginrequirements: Multiple file uploads in Course Files and Content Collection requires the Java Runtime Environment(JRE) from Oracle enabled as a browser plugin. The single file upload tool does not have thisrequirement. The upload applet is signed by Blackboard and includes a timestamping authority thatallows the applet to run even after the certificate has expired.Blackboard Collaborate with the Ultra experience does not require any downloads.JRE versions 7 and 8 are the recommended versions for features that depend on it. JRE version 6 maywork, but could result in unexpected behavior. Oracle has acknowledged some security issues with JREversion 6.Blackboard Learn does not require any other browser plugins. To learn more about browser plugins, assistive technology, and other supporting software, see the Browser Support Policy topic in this section.Other Computer Hardware Requirements:If your computer does not have the proper hardware or software, Blackboard may run slowly or lack some toolfunctionality.
