Page ThreeThirteenth Sunday in Ordinary TimeJune 27, 2021You changed my mourning intodancing;O LORD,my God,forever will I give you thanks.— Psalm 30:13JESUS’ EXAMPLE OF HELPING OTHERSIn today’s second reading Paul offers a wonderful argument to his converts at Corinth for seeking to helpthose in need. He is dealing with a practical problem, arranging a collection for the poor of the church ofJerusalem; but as he often does, he develops an important teaching about Jesus to make his point. After asking that they show their faith by generous gifts, he reminds them of the “gracious act of our LordJesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might becomerich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). In the Incarnation our Lord assumed our human nature, certainly becoming poor forone who is God. The ultimate gracious act of this poverty was going to the cross with all its terriblesufferings. By this act of poverty we definitely become rich. Now our sins can be forgiven; we can share inthe very life of God through the sacraments; we can attain eternal salvation!Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.TODAY’S READINGSFirst Reading — God did not make death, nor does God rejoice in the destruction of the living (Wisdom 1:1315; 2:23-24).Psalm — I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30).Second Reading — Your abundance should supply the needs of the others (2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15).Gospel — Your faith has saved you (Mark 5:21-43 [21-24, 35b-43]).The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in theLiturgy Corporation. Page ElevenSplit The Pot Drawing for the Weekend ofJUNE 20, 2021I.D. card #2698 was pulled(It was not eligible; did not participate in Split the Pot).TOTAL FOR SPLIT THE POT IS 6,076.00Rules for Split the Pot:1. Only registered parishioners are eligible to win this weekly drawing. If you are not registeredwith our parish, please come to our administrative office and we will be happy to register you intoSacred Heart Parish.2. You must play to win. In addition to your regular weekly offering of at least five dollars, the costof a split the pot entry for any given week’s drawing is also five dollars. (There are separateenvelopes for split the pot). All monies for split the pot will be set aside until there is a winner.3.There may not be a winner every week. Each week, a name is drawn from our entire, (whetherthey participate in the split the pot or not) parishioner file. If the name drawn participated in thatweek’s split the pot drawing, they will win the split the pot prize.4. If the name drawn from our entire parishioner file did not participate in split the pot that week, the money will be rolled over to increase the next week’s jackpot.Thank you for your continued generosity! Emmett Williamson, Business ManagerPLEASE NOTE: For those using the extra Split the Pot envelopes provided in back of church; pleasebe sure to put your name and or Envelope ID number. These envelopes are not preprinted, so we haveno idea who you are. Also, please DO NOT USE ANOTHER PERSON’S PREPRINTED ENVELOPE.Dear Parishioners,Thank you for your generous support for our Split the Pot fundraising efforts. We are seeing moresupport of this effort as the weeks roll on. However, it is becoming more difficult every week to keep trackof donations. Many of you are sending one check in and asking us to spread the Split the Pot donations overseveral future weeks’ drawings. Other times the instructions are not specific enough and we have to trackdown your intentions. Since the winner must give to Split the Pot and make a regular donation to qualify towin, it is imperative that we are able to determine this at the time of the drawing. We are also receivingentries through the post office, sometimes these are late entries that do not qualify because we have drawnthe number before receiving the envelopes. . We are doing our best and are committed to being transparent. These exceptions are causing problems, so, if at all possible please send in one envelope and one check(cash) specifically for Split the Pot in the week it is drawn.Thank you for your continued generosity and understanding.Emmett Williamson, Business Manager
