The shapeof the thermometer probe prevents it from beinginserted too far into the ear canal which can hurtthe eardrum.However, as with any thermometer,proper technique is critical toobtaining accurate temperatures.Therefore, read the use instructionscarefully and thoroughly.Important The operating ambient temperature range forthis thermometer is 10 – 40 C (50 – 104 F). Do not expose the thermometer to temperatureextremes (below –20 C / –4 F or over 50 C /122 F) or excessive humidity ( 95 % RH). This thermometer must only be used withgenuine Braun ThermoScan Lens Filters. Otherlens filters can lead to inaccuracy. To avoid inaccurate measurements always usethis thermometer with a new, clean lens filter. If the thermometer is accidentally used withouta lens filter, clean the lens after use (see «Careand cleaning»). Keep lens filters out of reach of children. This thermometer is intended for householduse only. Use of this thermometer is not intended as asubstitute for consultation with your physician.Body temperatureNormal body temperature is a range. The followingtable shows that this normal range also varies bysite. Perform an ear tug to straighten the ear canal.This gives the thermometer a clear view of theeardrum.34.6 C36.8 CAn ear tug is best performed by using your freehand to grasp the outer edge of the top half ofthe ear. To take your own temperature, wrapyour free hand around the back of your headand tug your ear from behind.Children under 1 year:Pull the ear straight back.Children aged 1 year toadult:Pull the ear up and back.4. While tugging the ear, fit theprobe (3) snugly into the earcanal, then push the «start»button (4). A short beep willsignal the start of themeasuring process.After one second a longerbeep will signal the endof the measuring process.The result is shown on thedisplay (6).4

Clear the display bypushing the «start» buttononce. Fit the probe snuglyinto the ear canal, then pushthe «start» button.The Braun ThermoScan ear thermometer turns offautomatically after 60 seconds of inactivity.Temperature taking hints A measurement taken in the right ear may differfrom the measurement taken in the left ear.Therefore, always take the temperature in thesame ear. The ear must be free from obstructions orexcess earwax build-up to take an accuratereading. External factors may influence ear temperatures, including when an individual has:– been lying on one ear or the other– had their ears covered– been exposed to very hot or very coldtemperatures, or– been recently swimming or bathing.In these cases, remove the individual from thesituation and wait 20 minutes prior to taking atemperature. If ear drops or other ear medications have beenplaced in the ear canal of one ear, take thetemperature in the untreated ear.Care and cleaningThe probe tip is the most delicate part of thethermometer. It has to be clean and intact toensure accurate readings.If the thermometer is accidentally used without a lens filter,clean the probe tip as follows:Very gently wipe the surfacewith a cotton swab or soft clothmoistened with alcohol.Once the alcohol has dried completely, a new lensfilter can be put on and a temperature measurement taken. If the probe tip is damaged, contactBraun.Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the thermometerdisplay and product exterior. Do not use abrasivecleaners.
