If the cutting attachment rotates with the throttlein the idle position then the carburettor idle setting mustbe checked. See instructions under the headingMaintenance.English – 7

GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONSStop switchUse the stop switch to switch off the engine. In countries that have a warm and dry climate there is asignificant risk of fire. We therefore fit certain mufflers witha spark arrestor mesh. Check whether the muffler on yourmachine is fitted with this kind of mesh.Start the engine and make sure the engine stops whenyou move the stop switch to the stop setting.Cutting attachment guardThis guard is intended to prevent loose objects from beingthrown towards the operator. The guard also protects theoperator from accidental contact with the cuttingattachment. For mufflers it is very important that you follow theinstructions on checking, maintaining and servicing yourmachine.Never use a machine that has a faulty muffler.Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached tothe machine. If the muffler on your machine is fitted with a sparkarrestor mesh this must be cleaned regularly. A blockedmesh will cause the engine to overheat and may lead toserious damage.Check that the guard is undamaged and not cracked.Replace the guard if it has been exposed to impact or iscracked.!Always use the recommended guard for the cuttingattachment you are using. See chapter on Technical data.!WARNING! Never use a cuttingattachment without an approved guard.See the chapter on Technical data. If anincorrect or faulty guard is fitted this cancause serious personal injury.!WARNING! Mufflers fitted with catalyticconverters get very hot during use andremain so for some time after stopping. This also applies at idle speed. Contactcan result in burns to the skin.Remember the risk of fire!WARNING! The inside of the mufflercontain chemicals that may becarcinogenic. Avoid contact with theseelements in the event of a damagedmuffler.Muffler! The muffler is designed to keep noise levels to a minimumand to direct exhaust fumes away from the user. A mufflerfitted with a catalytic converter is also designed to reduceharmful exhaust gases.8 – EnglishWARNING! Bear in mind that:The exhaust fumes from the engine arehot and may contain sparks which canstart a fire. Never start the machineindoors or near combustible material!

GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONSLocking nutCutting equipmentGrass blades and grass knifes are intended for cuttingcoarse grass.A locking nut is used to secure some types of cuttingattachment.A trimmer head is intended for trimming grass. When fitting, tighten the nut in the opposite direction to thedirection of rotation of the cutting attachment. To removeit, undo the nut in the same direction as the cuttingattachment rotates. (CAUTION! The nut has a left-handthread.) Tighten the nut using the socket spanner.General rulesOnly use cutting attachments with the guards werecommend! See the chapter on Technical data.Cutting equipmentThis section describes how to choose and maintain yourcutting equipment in order to: Reduce the risk of blade thrust. Obtain maximum cutting performance. Extend the life of cutting equipment.Keep the teeth of the blade correctly sharpened! Followour instructions and use the recommended file gauge. Anincorrectly sharpened or damaged blade increases therisk of accidents.IMPORTANT!Only use cutting attachments with the guards werecommend! See the chapter on Technical data.Refer to the instructions for the cutting attachment tocheck the correct way to load the cord and the correctcord diameter.Check the cutting attachment for damage or cracks. Adamaged cutting attachment should always be replaced.Keep the teeth of the blade correctly sharpened! Followour recommendations. Also refer to the instructions onthe blade packaging.!!WARNING! Always stop the enginebefore doing any work on the cuttingattachment. This continues to rotate evenafter the throttle has been released.Ensure that the cutting attachment hasstopped completely and disconnect thespark plug cap before you start to workon it.WARNING! Using an incorrect cuttingattachment or an incorrectly sharpenedblade increases the risk of blade thrust.English – 9

GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONSSharpening grass knifes and grassblades See the cutting attachment packaging for correctsharpening instructions. Sharpen blades and knifesusing a single-cut flat file. Sharpen all edges equally to maintain the balance ofthe blade.!WARNING! Always discard a blade that isbent, twisted, cracked, broken ordamaged in any other way. Never attemptto straighten a twisted blade so that itcan be reused. Only use original bladesof the specified type.Trimmer headIMPORTANT!Always ensure the trimmer cord is wound tightly andevenly around the drum, otherwise the machine willgenerate harmful vibration. Only use the recommended trimmer heads andtrimmer cords. These have been tested by themanufacturer to suit a particular engine size. This isespecially important when a fully automatic trimmerhead is used. Only use the recommended cuttingattachment. See the chapter on Technical data. Smaller machines generally require small trimmerheads and vice versa. This is because when clearingusing a cord the engine must throw out the cordradially from the trimmer head and overcome theresistance of the grass being cleared. The length of the cord is also important. A longer cordrequires greater engine power than a shorter cord ofthe same diameter. Make sure that the cutter on the trimmer guard isintact. This is used to cut the cord to the correct length. To increase the life of the cord it can be soaked inwater for a couple of days before use. This will makethe cord tougher so that it lasts longer.10 – English
