Program OverviewSpecial Olympics Louisiana is excited to announce our statewide year-round health &fitness program in collaboration with Louisiana State Parks. This program is designedto utilize Louisiana State Parks and provide athletes, unified partners, coaches andfamily members the opportunity to become fit while learning about the great outdoorsas they explore and gain new knowledge outside of their traditional learningenvironment. This opportunity will also assist them in developing an overall healthylifestyle. This program will include walking trails, tracking steps/mileage, identifyingwildlife that will include but is not limited to insects/spiders, birds, plants/trees,animals, and the search for geocaches. To make this more fun, we are encouragingparticipants to learn about plants, trees, birds, fish, insects, and other animals througha more hands-on approach. Participants will accrue points by identifying plants,animals, and insects, posting pictures on social media, and hunting down geocachesand more! Our current fitness & learning challenge began May 1, 2021, and will runthrough July 31st, 2021. Each challenge will end with recognition and award for eachparticipant that achieves points as indicated below. Special Olympics is confident thatthis program will provide a great and creative way to keep all participants engaged andactive in health & fitness.Enrollment and Tracking:The athletes, unified partners, coaches and family members will enroll through GoogleForms located on our website at this link: https://www.laso.org/ Parents/caregiver willcomplete our Unified Class A form. You can find the link to register on our Facebookpage and our SOLA website. We will provide a Points Sheet (see attached) forparticipants to track their points. Points System – Per Participant/Team Walk a trail: 10 Points Biking – 10 point each Swimming – 10 point each Paddling – 10 point each Fishing – 10 point each Disc Golf – 10 point each Find a Geocache (must take a picture with it & limited to one per week): 25 points Social Media Post (Max 2 per Week): 15 points per postBonus PointsOn the next page, you will see a list of all the State Parks and Historic Sites in Louisiana, alongwith some of their featured activities that you may also participate in and track for additionalBonus Points: Identify different types of wildlife (Maximum points per week):o All identifications must be different but can be the same in other weeks.o Example: Cannot identify 10 dragonflies in one week. Can only claim thedragonfly once per week.
