2 - RPM - April 11, 1992New copyright reforms scheduled for fallThe next amendments to theCopyright Actare now in the final drafting stage and it'shoped a new bill will be tabled this fall.The legislation will introduce newneighbouring rights for producers andperformers of sound recordings, forperformances and for broadcasters. It willalso deal with commercial rental rights forsound recordings and stand-alone computersoftware. The bill will also clarify definitionsand identify the ownership of audio-visualworks.The legislation will contain certainAllen's radio talk showcauses stir in industryDenis Armstrong, who handles stationclearance at Seltech Broadcast, reports theinitial reaction from stations to the BruceAllen hot line show (RPM - April 4/92) as"very exciting." And 86percent of them voted to keep on funding theircampus radio station, CKLN.As reported in last week's RPM, a studentreferendum was held at the school after somestudents complained that CKLN wasn' t payi n genough attention to what they wanted to hearon their station. Ryerson students pay 8.03each to provide about one-third of CKLN'sfunding. If the vote had gone against thestation, it may have had to shut down.The actual vote was 1,182 ballots tocontinue CKLN funding, and 195 ballots towithdraw it. There were two spoiled ballots.Elephant Show Collection attracted attentionat the Kidstyle International Exhibition inToronto.
