BY THE WAY . . .x This past summer we were happy to host the Final Vows Profession ceremony for theSalesian Sisters. The sisters’ chapel is currently under reconstruction because of a disastrousfire that took place three years ago. So, I had the opportunity to listen carefully as four sistersprofessed their vows. Like all religious women, the Salesian Sisters profess vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. But, with the Salesian Vows there is included an adherence to the“Preventive Method” of education put forth by their founder Saint John Bosco in the latenineteenth century. The “preventive method” seeks to employ three simple tools in trying to formyoung people into responsible Christian adults – reason, religion, and loving kindness.Who would not want their children to be influenced by such a sensible and loving system? We are lucky to be able to have the Salesian Sisters staffing our school. It helps make all thedifference in making Saint Anthony’s School a positive alternative for the education of yourchildren.x Attention all men: Be on the lookout in the bulletin for an announcement aboutSaint Joseph’s Workers, a new parish men’s initiative which will appear in the bulletin shortly. The first meeting of Saint Joseph’s Workers will take place on Saturday morning, October 2 at8:30 A.M.x 2022 Mass Book - We will begin taking requests for Mass Intentions for theCalendar Year 2022 beginning Tuesday, October 5. These requests must be made in writing onthe Mass Request Form found elsewhere in this bulletin. Mass requests will be taken only if thefirst and last name of the person is provided. People who wish their loved ones to be recordedsolely by initials or first names should consider looking into one of the missionary associations(such as the Salesians) to satisfy these requests.x Last year despite the difficulties encountered by the Covid-19 Pandemic, theDiocesan Ministries Appeal (formerly known as the Bishop’s Annual Appeal) had its mostsuccessful year ever. In our own parish, our generous parishioners more than doubled ourparish goal in their pledges and contributions. This year’s appeal begins the weekend ofSeptember 25-26. Watch your mail and this bulletin for more information.x At the end of this month (September 29) we celebrate the Feast of the HolyArchangels, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. For many years, at the end of Sunday Low Masses(“Low” Masses were those without any music) the following prayer to Saint Michael was prayedalong with a number of prayers for the Conversion of Russia. These prayers were removed from theliturgy in 1964.Saint Michael the Archangel,Defend us in battle;Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,By the power of God,Cast into hell Satan and all evil spiritsWho wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.Amen.God bless you all.Father Ray6

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME“Where jealousy and self ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdomfrom above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, withoutinconstancy and insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivatepeace.”Is the reading from St. James reflecting today’s headlines, or does it date from the first century? Theevents of our time certainly reflect disorder, chaos, making the gospel seem so distant. The encouragement of the writer though, offers the opportunity to examine our own lives as we seek tolive by the virtues he enunciates – peace, gentleness, mercy. James uses the fruits of the spirit of whichSt. Paul wrote in Galatians. If we chose just one and worked on it each day for a week or a month, our lives would be quite differentas we ‘cultivate peace’ in our hearts and offer it to others.HIS WORD TODAYBY REV.
