2 SJR STATEWOMEN’S VOLLEYBALLcoaching staffHead Coach - Marti LittlefieldMarti Littlefield is in her thirdyear of coaching softball atSJR State and comes fromNorthwest Florida State College, where she spent threeyears as assistant coach toJack Byerley. Together, theyaccumulated an overall record of 121 wins, 47 lossesand claimed one PanhandleConference title.The Nashville, Ga., nativespent six years as a playerand coach at Valdosta StateUniversity (VSU), contributing to an unprecedentedrun of six straight Gulf SouthConference (GSC) softballchampionships since 2009.Her coaching staff earnedNational Collegiate AthleticAssociation (NCAA) Division IISouth Region Coaching Staffof the Year honors in 2013and 2014. “Hard work paysoff, and the outcome of anygame is not predetermined,”said Littlefield. “Starting withthe pregame all the way untilthe last pitch requires an extreme amount of focus andteam effort.” Littlefield wasone of the most successfuloffensive players in GSC history, setting records in a slewof categories including homeruns, RBIs and doubles. Shealso led her team to the program’s first-ever national titlein 2012. She was named GSCFreshman of the Year and wasVSU’s Female Athlete of theYear in 2011. She was selected to the All-GSC and all-region teams for four years andnamed an All-American bythe National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2009 and2011. She thrived academi-cally and was named a VSUCommunity Service Leader in2011 in recognition of her volunteer work.The year 2018 served as ahuge milestone for Littlefieldin the accolades department.Early in the year, Littlefield,along with the 2012 Softball National Championshipteam, was inducted into the2018 Valdosta State University’s Hall of Fame. In May, shewas inducted into the 2018Gulf South Conference Hall ofFame. Littlefield was inducted, individually, into VSU’sHall of Fame in February of2019.

SJR STATEWOMEN’S VOLLEYBALLcoaching staffAssistant Coach - Sabrina HartsellSabrina Hartsell is coaching her second season at St.Johns River State College. Shecomes to us with years of experience developing youthpitchers. Her transition to college coaching was a smoothone as she has prepped manyof her former high school andtravel ball standouts for someimpressive college careers.Hartsell’s coaching careerbegan at Bolles High Schoolin 1998 where she was an assistant, taking over the headcoach position just a year laterin 1999. She left Bolles in 2002to start a family and pursue acareer at Baptist Medical Center in the Wolfson’s ChildrenEmergency Room. She begangiving private pitching lessons,and in December 2010, wentback to coaching at CreeksideHigh School. She took over asHead Coach in 2012. In 2013,Hartsell led 5A, Creekside, toa second-place finish in theirfirst appearance at the StateTournament. She finished her5 years at Creekside with a record of 125 wins and 17 loses,four District titles, 4 straightplayoff appearances includingtwo regional titles, and twostate playoff appearances finishing as the runner-up once.In the fall of 2012, Hartsell was hired to coach the16U Florida Select SoftballProgram. Her coaching contacts grew as she assistedmultiple players in earningcollege scholarships at thegame’s highest level. In thefall of 2013, she and her husband, Mike, started the FloridaForce Softball program. Shealso coached for three years(2015-2018) at Daytona StateCollege.Hartsell is a 1996 graduateof Orange Park High School,where she was a three yearletterman in fast pitch softballand weight lifting. She wasnamed MVP, Pitcher of the Yearand made the All-State Teamthree years. She set severalschool records, and her strikeout record remains unbroken.Hartsell received scholarshipinterest from several DI universities, but like many of ourathletes, she decided on theJunior College route. She attended Florida CommunityCollege of Jacksonville (nowFlorida State College of Jacksonville) where she pitched fortwo years before transferringto the University of North Florida. Her pitching career wasshortened due to an unfortunate elbow injury.Sabrina has been marriedto her husband, Mike Hartsell,since 2002. They have twosons, Hunter and Nolan.Community College, whereshe played her freshman andsophomore seasons, earningher team’s Gold Glove Awardher second year. Smith thentransferred to Florida A&MUniversity, where she received her degree in psychology. While at FloridaA&M University, she playedsecond base and shortstop,and helped lead the Rattlersto claim a MEAC title her se-nior season. Smith earnedthe team’s defensive playerof the year award that year.Smith worked as a pharmacy technician in Orlandofor two years before joiningBethune-Cookman’s coaching staff as an assistant. Sheresides in New Smyrna Beach,FL.Assistant Coach - Alissa SmithAlissa Smith is in her thirdseason as assistant coachat St. Johns River State College. She came to SJR Stateafter serving as the assistantsoftball coach and recruitingcoordinator at Daytona StateCollege where her responsibilities included workingwith the offense, the infield,recruiting and overseeing ofcamps and clinics. Smith alsodid a 10-year stint of coaching at the Division I level,serving as an assistant coachat Bethune Cookman University from 1999 to 2005, and atThe University of Marylandfrom 2005 to 2009.While at Bethune-Cookman, Smith helped leadthe Wildcats to five straightMid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championshipsfrom 1999-2004 with corresponding NCAA regional appearances.In 2005, the team alsowon the NCAA Regional atGainesville, and advancedto the NCAA Super Regional.Bethune-Cookman won 49games and finished number18 in the final Top 25 poll ofthe season.Smith was also awardedSouth Region Coaching Staffof the Year by the NationalFastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in 2005.Smith’s collegiate careerbegan at Daytona Beach3

Ross and his wife,Tish, have two sons, Tyler andHunter, and two daughters, Taylorand Tessa.Athletic Director - Ross JonesRoss Jones joined theSt. Johns River State Collegecoaching staff as the head baseball coach on June 10, 2008 andassumed the position of athleticdirector on June 1, 2009. After twelve seasons at SJR State,Jones has an overall record of394-218 (.644) and a Mid-Florida Con ference record of 171-95(.643).
