He has secured All India Rank-175 in the examinationconducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The national programme offellowship is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government ofIndia. Praveen Sridhar of Class XII C has received the Ramanujam Best Math Student Awardconducted by the Srinivasa Ramanujam Academy of Math Talent. A.ArunanAravaanan and K.Pravin Krishnan of Class XIB had exhibited their projecton the topic “Mathematical Solution in Everyday Life” in the final round of the CBSEnational level Mathematics and Science Exhibition held in February 2017. Their projectwas selected as the best in the regional level. Pranav Shriram,K.R Srinivas and Mahilan.B won the second place in a quizcompetition conducted by the Society for Advancement of Chemical Sciences andEducation at D.A.V School, Mogappair. Jayanth.N of Class XIIB and Ankit.A of Class XIA won the second place in a quizcompetition conducted by VidyaMandir Ahan Ray of Class VIII D won the first prize in the event METFEST conducted on 19thAugust by Indian Meterological Society, Chennai Chapter. CAMPUS CHRONICLESThe new academic session began on 03.04.2017. The inaugural havan was held on 12th June 2017 in theschool quadrangle. Director Shri Vikas Arya’s inspirational speech before the havan provided the stimulus forthe students and teachers to be in good stead throughout the year.A meeting of the parents and students with our Secretary Smt Parmila Gauhar, Director Shri VikasArya and Principal was held on 3rd July 2017 in the school premises. The strategies to be adopted to bring outthe best in the students were discussed.INVESTITURE CEREMONY: The event marked a significant beginning of the new academic year. It was asolemn occasion where the young students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and dischargethe responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school. The appointment elects were conferred their badges ofhonour on 3rd July 2017.The Annual Sports Day was held on 7th July 2017 at Rajarathinam Stadium. The Chief Guest was Dr.KannanPugazhendi, Sports and Fitness Consultant.INDEPENDENCE DAY: Col. Rajesh Singh, HeadQuarters , Dakshin Bharat Area, Chennaiunfurled the National Flag this Independence Day. The day was celebrated with patriotic fervor andenthusiasm. Our Director urged the students to genuinely believe in ‘Janani Janmabhoomischa SwargadapiGariyasi’ and understand the intricacies of what is happening in the country on the economic front .A careerjournal was also released by the Chief Guest.A MOCK DRILL was conducted in the school to sensitize students on how to handle themselves and evacuatea building in the event of a fire or such emergencies.DHAN UTSAV: It is a festival of Philanthropy that aims to become a part of the Indian ethos. It aims to spreadthe experience of Joy in Giving. It was celebrated by the students of our school in the last week of October. Thestudents of classes I to V contributed by donating old clothes and writing materials to les privilegedchildren.Students of Class V organised a quiz competition for the students of School Skies. Students of ClassesVI and VII shared their lunch with the supporting staff. Students of classes IXand X designed thank you cardswhich were then gifted to Office-staff, Van Drivers, Traffic Policemen and Postman.Annual Day: The 48th Annual Day was celebrated on 12thNovember, 2017 at Kamarajar Arangam was amomentous occasion for the students and teachers. Shri.NarayananVaghul was the Chief Guest. Patriotismwas the theme of the annual day. The cultural programme began with the tiny tots dancing to the beautifultunes, enchanting the audience with the colourful costumes followed by a splendid dance performance by thestudents of VI-VIII. Vedic Scholar and Minister of State for Human Resource Development,Government of India, Shri Satya Pal Singh guided the congregation. Renowned Vedic Scholar Acharya AnandPurusharthji delivered discourses. Our students presented a play on the life of Swami Dayanand Saraswati.A few students of Class XI have volunteered to tutor the students of classes IV and Vof Skies Primary School twice a week in Maths after school. CLUB ACTIVITIES THE DAV SCIENCE CLUBTeacher co-ordinators: Mrs.Swarna Prabhakaran &Mr.NavneethaKrishnanThe science club activities for the academic year 2017-18 took off with the inauguraladdress by the resource person for IRIS Mrs. Hanna Murugesan in the month of June. An hourlong session saw students getting an insight into the various probable fields and ideas thatcan be presented and introduced to the scientific community. It stressed on the need to startwith a single – simple idea that can be developed into a concrete reality with research andmore importantly with passion.Students of class IX were taken on an educational field trip to DRDO where they gainedfirst hand information on the important researches in the defence arena -- right from thetechnology to medical to food research. A spectacular display of army tanks left the studentstruly inspired.As is the motto of our science club, encouraging quizzing is an integral part of activityevery year, science quiz for classes VI to VIII on the topic “ WE AND OUR ENVIRONMENT ”was conducted in August and the best quizzerswere selected and given prizes.First prize winners are :To inculcate scientific temper in students and to imbibe in them the qualities of atrue scientific mind, Skits on the topic ‘LIFE OF SCIENTISTS” by the students of class VIIIshowcasing not only the team work and enacting capabilities of our students but influencingsubtly aspects like – systematic approach - perseverance – never give up attitude –observation – and many other qualities of a scientist. The valedictory function for the science club for the academic year 2017-18 on 14th February2018, started with invoking blessings of god, followed by a very interesting speech by Dr. V.Sivasubramaniam, a pioneer in algal technology , an entrepreneur , a scientist and anexcellent speaker whose lecture on using algae to clean water bodies was received well bythe class xi and ix students alike. The interactive session that followed brought out thoughtprovoking questions and enlightening answers. The chief guest distributed prizes for studentswho had won the science club competitions.Students, generally are aware of foreign scientists much more than our own, whoindeed have contributed equally if not more, to the scientific community. To enable ourstudents to appreciate their contributions from Sage Agasthya to our own Dr. A.P.J AbdulKalam, a book compiled by students of class VIII A highlighting the achievements of ourIndian scientists in the global arena was released by the chief guest and received by ourPrincipal. Around 160 students took up the exam.In November, students of class 7 shared their experience in keeping the classrooms cleanby giving a speech on the topic, “My little mite in class cleanliness”, during the assembly.In the month of January the Valedictory function for Eco club was organised and an Ecojournal made by students of class 7 was handed over to our Principal.GREEN OLYMPIAD EXAMINATION-2017The exam was conducted by the Energy and Resources Institute, NewDelhi. 164
