Ballasts must be installed per nationaland local electrical codes.Number of Ballasts Per ControlLamp SocketsQuality lamp sockets are required to ensurepositive lamp-pin to socket contact. T5-HO linearlamps require rotary locking sockets. T8 lampsrequire knife-edge sockets. U-bent lamps requirelocking sockets and proper lamp support to holdlamp pins in full contact with the socket.To calculate the maximum number of ballastsallowed per control, divide control’s currentcapacity by individual ballast current. Certaincontrols allow a specific maximum number ofballasts.Lamp Mounting for T8Many fluorescent lamp sockets are available withmounting slots to vary the height of the lampaway from the grounded metal surface. Usethese slots to get the lamp glass to be 1/2" 1/4"away from the grounded metal surface.ATTENTIONFACILITIES MANAGERSPERFORMANCELamps Must Be SeasonedHaving a fluorescent lamp too close to thegrounded metal will make the minimumintensity too low and will reduce lamp life.Having a fluorescent lamp too far away fromthe grounded metal will make the lamp flickeror not turn on at all.New fluorescent lamps must be operated for100 hours at full output (“seasoned”) to renderlamp impurities inert, so as to achieve properdimming performance and average rated lamp life.Lamp Mounting for T4 and T5-HOReplacement PartsKeep lamps 3/8" 1/8” away from the groundedmetal surface.Use replacement parts with exact Lutron modelnumbers.
