2020 NMHIMA Spring Conference SpeakersReuben Murray is the Chief Financial Officer, CFO atCHRISTUS St. Vincent Health System, in Santa Fe, NewMexico. He previously worked at Lovelace Health Systemin Albuquerque, N.M., for a decade. There he served inseveral leadership roles, including his most recent role asCFO of Lovelace Medical Center, the health system'sflagship. He has also served as controller for Pulte Homesof New Mexico and as a fraud specialist for AmericaOnline.Reuben Murray, CPA, CFOMr. Murray holds a master's degree in organizationalmanagement from the University of New Mexico inAlbuquerque.Thomas D. East, Ph.D. is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for NMHIC/ LCFResearch. LCF Research operates the New Mexico HealthInformation Collaborative which is the NM state designatedhealth information exchange.Thomas East, PhD,CEO/CIODr. East has over 30 years of experience in healthinformation technology, 17 of these in executive informationtechnology leadership in four healthcare systems in Utah,Alaska, Illinois and New York. Dr. East has a strongbackground in pulmonary medicine and critical care,strategic planning, program/project management, resourcemanagement, adoption of best practices, and innovativetechnology to support rural healthcare.Lisa has been a surveillance officer for New Mexico’sEmerging Infectious Program (NM EIP), since 2003. Throughout her career, she has beenan active member of AHIMA and has held numerous HIMState board positions including past president of THIMA.Karen Proffitt, MHIIM, RHIA,CHPShawna Ramey RHIT, CHPS, CCS, is the Director of HealthInformation Management at San Juan Regional Medical Center.Shawna has been working in ancillary healthcare for 27 years.She sits on the Advisory Board for the Health InformationTechnology Program at San Juan College in Farmington, NM.She believes in continual learning and staying current in theindustry. She is an activeAHIMA Member focusing her attention of patientidentity, health information exchange, standarddevelopment and information governance. Shereceived AHIMA’s Pioneer Triumph Award in 2012for her innovative approach to use the technology. Shehas served as the President of TxHIMA and as amember of AHIMA’s House of Delegated. Children’shas received the following awards: HIMSS Level 7Analytics, HIMSS Davies and AHIMA Grace underher leadership. She speaks on national and state levelson health information management opportunities,clinical documentation improvement, patient identityand promoting the role of the HIM profession.Craig Nelson is a Data Scientist at SandiaNational Laboratories in the Assurance DataSciences department. Prior to this role, he workedfor 25 years as a statistician for PresbyterianHealthcare Services. He oversaw all surveyresearch at Presbyterian and served as aconsultant to the organization on statisticalmatters. Craig is also owner of an LLC thatprovides statistical consulting. Craig serves on theAlbuquerque Quality Network Board ofDirectors. He holds a Bachelor’s degree inBiology from Virginia Tech and Master’s degreein Applied Statistics from the University of NewMexico

2020 NMHMA Spring Conference Speakers and BiosPearl Mohnkern, MHSA,SHRLauren Sims-Norville, DO, FACOIPearl Mohnkern served for 40 years in Health Care HumanResources leadership, with 35 of those years in threeorganizations. Pearl’s education includes a B.S. degree fromL.S.U., and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administrationfrom University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. She holds a lifetimeSPHR certification. Shortly after college, Pearl held positions ofHR Director in two large hospitals in the Louisiana Charity HealthCare System, rising within 10 years to the role of Discipline Chieffor the ten-hospital state agency before she joined Catholic HealthCare for the next 20 years. With CHRISTUS Health, Pearl wassoon promoted to VP of HR in the Houston Corporate Office ofCHRISTUS Dubuis/Continuing Care Division with responsibilityfor HR in 16 LTACHS in 7 states. Territory was later added forthe Gulf Coast Region of Acute Care hospitals, as well as twodozen Home Health and Hospices in 7 states. Pearl’s final serviceto CHRISTUS was as VP of HR for the New Mexico Regionincluding labor relations leadership in a strong unionenvironment. Spanning her career, Pearl developed, directed anddelivered numerous educational programs to employees,managers and Board Members. Throughout her employment,Pearl volunteered on non-profit Boards of a Psychiatric Hospital,a mega Free Clinic, a Battered Woman’s Shelter, and with JuniorAchievement. She also dedicated substantial volunteer hours overa dozen years as a suicide counselor in Houston, and crisescounselor and rape victim advocate in Santa Fe. Mohnkernrecently retired to Phoenix, AZ, continuing to provide volunteerservices to three non-profit organizations.Dr. Lauren Sims-Norville is the current Physician Advisor forCase Management and Medical Director for UtilizationReview at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Health System. She went toMedical School in Fort Worth, Texas and finished in 2000. Shecompleted her residency in Internal Medicine and have been aHospitalist - both in the teaching and private sector since thattime. She became Director of the Hospitalist group in Octoberof 2016. Successes were implementing structures to decreaseoverall LOS by nearly one day, improving communicationbetween the Hospitalist group and all other Hospitaldepartments, standardizing peer to peer calls with insurancecompanies, renegotiating our contract to raise all Hospitalistsalaries from 25th to 50th percentile according to MGMA.She’s currently on the following committees for the hospital:Credentialing, PNT, Ethics, and Mission. She is the Chair ofUR and run in conjunction with the Manager of CaseManagement and Length of Stay meetings as well as transitionof care rounds with the Hospitalists. Her goal is to improvecollaboration with all departments and develop consistent,meaningful data for tracking Documentation Improvement.

She has over ten years of experience in the fieldsof Statistics, Mathematics, and Secondary Education witha degree from the University of Vermont and a pendingfinal thesis of her Master’s degree regarding newbornswith Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Her currentClinician Directed Performance Improvement projectsassist providers in collecting and analysing data in Laborand Delivery, Paediatrics, and the newly formed GreenTeam Project.Jill EtreLynette Lewis, M.A. Th, BCh.M,RN, CTT , CCM, CCP, FLMILynette Lewis is a retired Registered Nurse Executive with over40 years’ experience in the health care and insurance industries.She has been recognized by both the Metropolitan and Empire’sWho’s Who of Executives and Professionals for herdistinguished leadership throughout her career. She wasformerly the Director of Clinical Review with Florida Blue inJacksonville FL, Director of Medical Operations with AnthemBlue Cross Blue Shield of GA in Atlanta GA, and Director ofHealth Care Services with Cigna Healthcare in Charleston SC.In addition, as a Registered Nurse, she worked as a ClinicalManager with Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta GA,Trident & Summerville Medical Hospitals and Interim HomeHealthcare in Charleston SC. Lynette started her nursingeducation at the Hospital of the University of PennsylvaniaSchool of Nursing in Philadelphia and also attended TridentTechnical College and Medical University of South Carolina inCharleston. Lynette is an ordained minister with a Master ofArts Degree in Theology from Life Christian University, thepublished author of “Purpose, Pain’s Promise - Finding Purposethrough Painful Experiences” and an international speaker andfacilitator, with her most recent international speakingengagement in Kampala Uganda in December 2019. She is acertified technical trainer, certified facilitator of The PassionTest, as well as Owner and CEO of Purpose Made Alive, LLC.She resides in Jacksonville FL with her husband, Larry Lewis, afellow RN, and is the mother of 2 adult sons, 4 grandchildrenand 1 great-grandchild. A recipient of several leadership andcommunity services awards, including ACHI Magazine’sCommunity Leader of the Year Award in 2019, Lynette’spurpose statement is to “make a difference in the lives of othersthrough service, education and inspiration, helping people toidentify their passions so they can live and walk in theirpurpose.”
