Alumni Association News 5Secretary’s ReportComplete minutes Traditionally the banquet businessmeeting details are printed in thenewsletter, but 2020 was no ordinaryyear with us needing to cancel thebanquet and hold a virtual scholarshipawards ceremony with the school districtadministration. Instead, this year we willprovide some highlights of recent meetingminutes and additional noteworthyinformation.From April 2020 NEW BUSINESS:The following are the election of officersfor the Shamokin Area High SchoolAlumni Association for 2020-2021:President Amy Henninger Rachu ‘83Vice President Erik Anderson ‘97Secretary Jamie A. Hoffman Bordell ‘75Treasurer Gregory Dwulet ‘68Registrar Jeff Clutcher ‘78Historian Maxine Howerter-Harvey ‘83John Klinger ’68 made a motion to acceptthe nomination of officers for 2020-2021,seconded by Susan Kropinski Haas ’75.All were in favor.EDUCATION FUND TRUSTEES:The election of the following to serve for afive-year term (until 2025) as trustees ofthe Educational Fund was approved:Dr. Raymond General – ‘91Susan Kropinski Haas – ‘75Frances Lee Culp – ‘63The election of Tammy Linton Glowatski– ’87 to fill the un-expired term (until2021) of the late Myron M. Moskowitz asa trustee of the Educational Fund wasratified.At the February 2020 meeting of thetrustees, Matthew Weller – ’91 waselected President and Dr. RaymondGeneral – ’91 was elected Vice President.Frances Lee Culp – ’63 who served asSecretary for many years, resigned fromthat position (she remains as a trustee).A new secretary will be appointed.From October 2020 TREASURER’S REPORT:Gregory Dwulet ’68 provided thetreasurer’s update. Greg spoke aboutcontributions and donations being downdue to COVID.He reported a donation made by NathanWeidenhamer ’02 and his sister, Deanna’96. When they were seniors, bothreceived a scholarship. They provided adonation of 7,500 for an annual awardbased on the investment earnings. Thisaward would go to a female senior whohas the highest GPA in STEM relatedsubjects - science, technology, engineering,and math – who expects to enter a STEMfield in post-graduate work.The consensus was to create a new awardcalled the Weidenhamer Family Awardstarting in 2021. This new award maygenerate approximately 200 a year.This could build up over time, especiallyif additional contributions are added.A new award cannot pull down fromprincipal, but needs to be awarded fromgrowth only.MEMORABILIA COMMITTEE:Maxine Howerter-Harvey ’83 needs tostep down as Historian for the alumniassociation. Approved by the group,the Historian responsibilities will becombined with the work of the Registrar.From January 2021.BANQUET:John Klinger ’68 reported this year’sbanquet is good to go, but undeterminedif the event will occur in 2021 due toCOVID-19. The date for the banquetis Memorial Day weekend, Saturday,May 29, 2021 at Masser’s Banquet Hall,Paxinos, PA. If the event occurs, socialdistancing and masks will be required.Please check the alumni website for anyongoing updates as we review options.MEMORABILIA:Jeffrey Clutcher ’78 reported that hereceived around 12 yearbooks in the yearshe was on the Shamokin school boardfrom the family of Walter Fidler. Jeffnoted that the year books were started in1919.Anyone interested in a yearbook fromprevious years can contact Jeff to seeif any are available. A donation for thecost of mailing and handling will beencouraged. John Clutcher ’74 to updatethe website with this information in theFAQ section.Jeff asked if the supply of extra yearbooksfrom past years is still plentiful, he wouldlike to donate them to the HistoricalSociety.
