INLAND NORTHWESTWOODTURNERSNEWSLETTERNext Meeting is Thursday,June 5, 2008 at WoodCraft Storeclassroom, N.E. corner ofSprague and Sullivan (N. side ofthe Fred Meyer parking lot)7:00 PMMay Meeting 2008Thanks to Everett Best for his demonstration and comments on carving. We got a chance to see how you canenhance, decorate or create a whole new direction on a turned piece of wood. Also, practical advice on tool useand choices, if you use it most often maybe it’s not just your favorite, it might be the best.

Turn a bowl with three tools:Don’t miss the June meeting, our demonstrator will be Russ Fairfield. Russ is a master turner and when you listento conversations among members you’re likely to hear “ if I could just turn it as thin as Russ does ”, “ I usedthe Fairfield finish on that one.” or “ how did he do that?”The Sharing Table:Bill Eller’s birch heart was the result of a “mid course design correction”. It started as a bowl but the wood justwouldn’t cooperate. Jim Christiansen’s carved lid was originally on another vessel and Dan holds a daintyambrosia maple bowl made by Norm MacPhee.

This great looking segmented box is from the shop of Roy Behm.Upcoming events:Bruce Campbell will be our demonstrator at the September 4th meeting. The next day, Bruce will teach an allday seminar including instruction on turning on sharpening. Only 8 spots will be available ( 75 each), see a clubofficer to sign up.Learning Resources:The club owns a number of books, articles and videos (DVD & VHS) on the subjects of turning techniques anddesign. Sabrina Murphy has provided an updated inventory, see her at the meeting to check out items of interest.Good stuff!Inland Northwest WoodturnersLibraryLast updated 04-0308TypeBookBookTitle500 Wood BowlsBefore You Build A Preconstruction GuideAuthorLark BooksRobert Roskind
