The meeting was called to order by Ron Barker, chairman. YoungSu McCann opened in prayer.2. Roll was taken. A quorum was present.Roll Call3. The committee reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting (May2018). A motion was made by Derk Schulze to approve theminutes. Second. MOTION CARRIED.May MinutesApproved4. The committee reviewed the 2018-2019 Church Planning Calendar.The committee discussed the need for approving the conventioncalendar each year. A motion to approve the calendar as printedwith any changes and/or additions as needed throughout the yearwas made by Donald St. John. Second. MOTION CARRIED.5. Ross Shepherd, leader, Church Planting Initiatives Team, distributeda report highlighting team metrics (Attachment A). He discussed theprocess for new church starts which includes providing Count theCost customized trainings.Ralph Neighbour, leader, Church Revitalization Initiatives Team,spoke about the Count the Cost workshops his team has completed.Pete Ramirez, leader, Evangelism and Missions Initiatives Team,distributed a report detailing ministries being accomplished by theteam (Attachment B).2018-2019Church PlanningCalendarApprovedMinistry TeamReview

SMC THURSDAY 09-13-18Ken Sartain, leader, Small Church Initiatives Team, explained theteam’s metrics. He discussed the purpose of the team and how theConvention will be able to resource small churches in becomingstronger and healthier.There was a question and answer period related to small churchministries.6. The 2018 Strategic Ministries Committee Annual Report for theBook of Reports was presented and discussed. Andy Prince movedthe report be approved with the addition of actions and items fromthe September meeting. Second. MOTION CARRIED.7. The committee decided to have a ministry review of each team atthe January meeting. Church Planting, Evangelism/MissionsRevitalization, and Small Church each will have 30 minutes toreport. Written questions will be given to each ministry team toanswer prior to the January meeting.8. Motion to adjourn was made by Barker. Second. MOTIONCARRIED. St. John closed the meeting with prayer. 2018-2019 Church Planning CalendarRecommendation:It is recommended that the 2018-2019 Church Planning Calendar be approved with anynecessary changes during the year.Background:The Church Planning Calendar contains a significant portion of the ministries of CaliforniaSouthern Baptist Convention. Also included in the calendar are programs jointly sponsored withassociations and responses to requests from individual churches or groups of churches.Additionally, the calendar includes dates relevant to institutions – The Baptist Foundation ofCalifornia, California Baptist University and Gateway Seminary – with which we partner. Thecalendar also lists Southern Baptist Convention emphases.Action:Approved by Strategic Ministries Committee – September 13, 2018

2018 Annual ReportStrategic Ministries CommitteeThe duties and responsibilities of the Convention Strategic Committees Committee are found in Article II,Section 1A(2) of the Bylaws of the Executive Board, California Southern Baptist Convention. Theseduties were reviewed in detail by the committee.In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Strategic Ministries Committee considered the following items ofbusiness and made reports or recommendations to the Executive Board:1. Reviewed committee duties at each meeting.2. Elected Derk Schulze vice chairman for 2018.3. Recommended that the goal for the California Mission Offering be 435,000 and the purpose for theoffering be emphasized in promotion.
