CHURCH COVENANTHaving been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God toreceive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on theprofession of our faith, having been baptized in the name ofthe Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do nowin the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, mostsolemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another,as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walktogether in Christian love; to strive for the advancement ofthis church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promoteits prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfullyand regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses ofthe church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospelthrough all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; toeducate our children religiously; to seek the salvation of ourkindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in theworld; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our conduct; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale anduse of intoxicating substances; to be zealous in our efforts toadvance the kingdom of our Saviour. We further engage to each other in brotherly love; toremember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sicknessand distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling andcourtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but alwaysready for reconciliation, mindful of the rules of our Saviourto secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that, when we remove from this place,we will, as soon as possible, unite with another church of likefaith, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant andthe principles of God’s word.CONSTITUTIONARTICLE 1NAME AND PURPOSEA. The name of this church shall be Antioch MissionaryBaptist Church.B. The purpose of this church shall be to maintain apublic worship of God, to promote Christianeducation, to exalt the standard of Christian living, and under the leadership of our Divine Lord andMaster, to cooperate in spreading the Gospel and inextending the Kingdom of God throughout the world.Trusting that as a result sinners shall be saved andbelievers shall be edified.ARTICLE 2MEMBERSHIP AND CONDUCTA. The membership of this church shall consist ofpersons who have accepted Jesus Christ as theirpersonal Saviour and Lord, acknowledged Hislordship in baptism by immersion, and receivedmembership by a vote of the church in the mannerprescribed.B. The Standards of conduct are set forth in thecovenant.ARTICLE 3FAITH AND DOCTRINEA. The Holy Scriptures: We believe in the HolyScriptures of the Old and New Testaments to beverbally inspired Word of God, the final authorityfor faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible, and God-breathed. (II Tim. 3:6,17; IIPeter 1:20-21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12-13).B. The Godhead: We believe in one triune God,eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son,and Holy Spirit.C. The Person and Work of Christ: We believethat Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, is true God and trueman, is the only Saviour of mankind, and is theproper object of our worship.

D. The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit: Webelieve that the Holy Spirit is a person whoreproves the world of sin, righteousness, andjudgment; that He is the supernatural agent inregeneration, baptizing all believers into the bodyof Christ, and indwelling and sealing them untothe day of redemption. (John 16:9-11; II Cor. 3:6;I Cor. 12:12-14; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13-14); that Heis the Divine Teacher who guides believers intoall truth; that it is the privilege and duty of all thesaved to be filled with the Spirit. (John 16:13; IJohn 2:20-27; Eph. 5:18).E. The Total Depravity of Man: We believe thatman was created in the image and likeness ofGod; that in Adam’s sin, the race fell, inherited asinful nature, and became alienated from God;that man is totally depraved, and of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Gen.1:26-27; Rom. 3:22-23; Eph. 2:1-3, 12).F. Salvation: We believe that faith in the shedblood of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died, wasburied, arose from the dead, and has ascended tothe right hand of the Father, is the only hope ofsalvation (Eph. 1:7; Rev. 1:5); that this faith isbegotten through hearing the Word of God whollyapart from human works (Eph. 2:8-9); that by anew birth one dead in trespasses and sin isquickened unto eternal life, made righteous, justified (II Cor. 5:21; I Cor. 1:30; Rom. 3:21-26),made partaker of the Divine nature (II Peter 1:4),and is eternally secure unto the praise of Hisglory.G. The Eternal Security of Believers: We believethat all the redeemed, once saved, are kept byGod’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.(John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1, 38-39; I Cor.1:4-8; I Peter 1:5); that it is the privilege ofbelievers to rejoice in the assurance of theirsalvation through the testimony of God’s Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use ofChristian liberty as an excuse for willful sin.(Rom. 13:13-14; Gal. 5:13; Titus 2:11-15).H. Separation: We believe that all the saved shouldlive in such a manner as not to bring reproachupon their Saviour and Lord; that separation fromall religious apostasy, practices, and associationsis commanded of God. (II Tim. 3:1-5; Rom. 12:12, 14:13; I John 2:15-17; II John 9-11; II Cor.6:14, 7:1).I. The Church: We believe that a local church is acongregation of immersed believers, associated bycovenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel, observing the ordinances of Christ, governed byHis laws, and exercising the gifts, rights, andprivileges invested in it by His Word; that itsofficers are pastors (elders, bishops) (Eph. 4:1011; Acts 20:26-32; I Tim. 3:1-7; I Peter 5:1-4;Titus 1: 5-9; Phil. 1:1) and deacons (Acts 6: 1-7; ITim. 3:8-13); that it has the absolute right of selfgovernment directed by the Holy Spirit and isanswerable only to Christ; that in all matters ofmembership, polity, government, discipline, andbenevolences the will of the local church is final(Acts 2:41-42; I Cor. 11:2; Eph. 1:22-23, 5:23-24:Col. 1:18; Acts 20: 17-18).

J. The Ordinances; We believe that there are twochurch ordinances: baptism and the Lord’sSupper.a. Mode of Baptism: The pastor or someother person, of the same faith, authorizedby the church shall administer theordinance of baptism by immersion in thename of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.Baptism sets forth in a beautiful andsolemn way our faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, with its effect inour life of death to sin and resurrection toa new life. Baptism is a prerequisite to theprivileges of church membership. (Acts8:36-38; Rom. 6:3-4; Col. 2:12; I Peter3:21).b. The Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s Suppershall be served to the congregation by thepastor, or some other person authorized bythe church on the designated timeestablished by the church body. Since it isthe Lord’s Table, none who are His shallbe barred, but the pastor shall frequentlystate the scriptural order, which placesbaptism as a prerequisite to communion, and shall explain the meaning of theordinance. Believers, who, through nofault of their own, are unable to participatein the public observance of the Lord’sSupper, may request special administrationof the ordinance at a time and place ofmutual convenience. (I Cor. 10:21; II Cor.11:24-27; Matt. 26:26-28).K. Satan: We believe that Satan is a person, theauthor of sin, and the cause of the fall of man; thathe is the open and declared enemy of God andman; that he shall be eternally punished in theLake of Fire. (Job 1:6-7; Isa. 14:12-17; Matt. 4:211, 25:41; Rev. 20:10).L. The Eternal State: We believe in the bodilyresurrection of all men; the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlastingpunishment. (Matt. 25:46; John 5:28-29, 11:2526; Rev. 20:5, 6, 12, 13). We believe that thesouls of the redeemed are, at death, absent fromthe body and present with the Lord. There inconscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when the soul and body are reunited to beglorified forever with the Lord. (Luke 23:43;Rev. 20:4-6; II Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:23; I Thes. 4:1617). We believe that the souls of unbelieversremain in conscious misery after death until thesecond resurrection. Then, with the soul and bodyreunited, they shall appear at the Great WhiteThrone Judgment, and shall be annihilated, but tosuffer everlasting conscious punishment. (Luke16:19-26; Matt. 25:41-46; II Thes. 1:7-9; Jude 67; Mark 9:43-48; Rev. 20:11-15.)ARTICLE 4GOVERNMENT

Antioch was a missionary-minded church, and in this chapter Paul and Barnabas are sent forth from Antioch on their first missionary journey. It was true then and it is true today, that evangelism is the lifeblood of the Church. When a local church fails to have a healthy outreach, it begins to die. Those who do not evangelize tend to fossilize.

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church was constituted on Saturday before the second Sunday in March, 1874 (March 7, 1874), and is an offspring of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church which was constituted September 2, 1822. All the eleven constituent members were drawn from Liberty Church.
