Registrar FAQsHow will E&F scheduling appointments work?Appointment 1 (10 minutes) Schedule a Sub-I or APCAppointment 2 (10 minutes) Schedule a Sub-I or APC If you added a Sub-I during your first appointment, you must add an APC (and vice versa) during thisappointmentAppointment 3 (20 minutes) 16 elective credits OR 8 elective credits and 8 credits APC/Sub-I.Appointment 4 (20 minutes) 24 elective credits OR 16 elective credits and 8 credits APC/Sub-I

Registrar FAQsWhen will our Neuro and EM clerkships be scheduled? Tentatively scheduled to have assignments completed by late October. Specialty departments are reporting rotation availability to Curriculum Office. Once finalized availability isprovided, our team will make assignments.When will we start scheduling away rotations? Historically, students begin scheduling VSAS/VSLO rotations during Open Scheduling/Winter quarter. Due to COVID, away rotations were suspended for this current academic year and we do not have additionalinformation about plans for 2021-22. Conversations are ongoing on a national level.

If you were approved to drop a Patient Care rotation and have a delayed schedule: We are aware of your situation and will make sure EM and NEURL are not scheduled during thetimeframe where your Patient Care rotation(s) will be.When will I find out my location for this rotation? Do you use the preferencespreviously submitted? You will be rescheduled when we work on the Patient Care schedule for the E19s. Do not submit an additional Patient Care survey. Preferences submitted last year will be usedto reschedule dropped rotations.

Clinical Curriculum FAQsWhat is the difference between an APC and APC-S? Advanced Patient Care rotations (APCs) and sub-internships (APC-Ss) differ mainly in that APC-Ss focuson skills required for residency. In the APC-S rotations, student function at the level of an intern for the mostpart.What do I use a Sub I for? Sub-internships are opportunities where you can demonstrate and gain skills necessary for residency.Programs look favorably on these rotations. Top performance in these rotations areimportant to let programs know that you are well-prepared for residency.Is there a separate elective catalog? Yes - Explore & Focus elective, APC, and APC Sub-I Catalog

Clinical Curriculum FAQsIf I do my EM rotation at HMC, does that also count as my Sub-I? No. Your required Emergency Medicine clerkship is a different SOM graduation requirement than the APCSub-I SOM graduation requirement.Can I take 4 weeks of Anesthesia as a P/F and count it as an elective or is it only available forcredit? All 4-week clerkships are graded H/HP/P/F. All 2-week clerkship are P/F. PolicyCan 4-week rotations be counted as electives or are electives just 2 weeks? Yes, most clinical electives are 2 or 4 weeks in length.

Clerkship Admin FAQsWhy do some clerkships need permission? Some clerkship sites don't know what their availability is in advance, so the department requirespermission-only. However, this should not discourage you from taking such courses.How long does it take to get my permission request approved? Depends on the site, the department, and which timeframe you are requesting. The EF Clerkship Catalogprovides this information for all permission-only clerkships. Generally, the turnaround time is quick.Who do I contact to request permission? Contact the Department Clerkship Administrator to request permission for a clerkship. The Explore & FocusClerkship Catalog also has permission-only contact information.

Travel & Housing FAQsI understand housing is not reimbursed for electives. Is it reimbursed for E&F requiredrotations (EM and Neurology) and the APCs and APCSs? Housing is provided (or reimbursed, depending on what's available at the site) and travel is reimbursable forrequired EM and Neurology rotations. For the APC and sub-I rotations that meet the GAR requirements, housing and travel are reimbursable.
