Pentecost SundayDID YOU KNOW?Viewing pornography can put children in greaterdanger of abuseIn a recent report on the role technology plays insex trafficking, researchers discovered that the internetfacilitated prostitution through online ads in 75% of cases. The average age of entry was 15. Pornography is agrowing problem in our society, and it contributes a greatdeal to the real problems of sexual exploitation and trafficking that are happening closer to home than we maythink. Pornography portrays sex as violent and degrading, particularly to women. Viewing these images canmake children more vulnerable to sexual abuse, sincethey can have a distorted view of what is appropriate andwhat’s not. For more information, check out the article“Internet, online porn seen as enabling sexual exploitation of children.”Page ThreeHave you considered online banking as a convenientand secure way to give online? You can set up your bank’s online bill pay feature to automatically send in your weekly pledge or donations to ourvarious funds, just like you pay your cable bill. The bankwill issue and mail a check to Assumption. The experience proved all my preconceived ideaswere inaccurate and thankfully so. Theblessings ahead for me deeply impacted my understanding of Jesus’ commandment to love one another. Homeless was just a label I used, but after meeting real menand women, the label became alive — humanized. Thegenuine gratitude for the mercy bag, rubber mat, andsleeping bag was awesome. One of the friends-in-need,Anthony, shared that he sang in a Baptist choir as a kid.Robert, our leader, said once during a simple group prayer together Anthony sang! Being in a group was fun.Being in open space to go up to the people was easy.Their manner of gratitude in voice and gesture was moving. The money collected from our church SVDP envelopespurchased the bags which were bought at special discounts. The layers of help opened up .drivers of vans, packers of food bags, givers of funds. Wonderful! I lookforward to going again to see how Ashley and Meghanare doing in their job hunting; how Anthony likes his newsleeping bag, and to be with the other Vincentians.Homeless are people, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers, young, old .each with a story of life. I felt humbledand blessed to be with them.Watch for future opportunities to accompany us on aHomeless Caravan.
