Volume : 13Issue : 2QuarterlyApr - Jun 2016Price : Rs. 7.00Message from the Chief EditorIEEE MAS LINK is happy to present the 2nd printedition for the year 2016. As you are aware the printedition is an abridged version of the IEEE MASLINK which comes out in electronic form (PDFedition) every month with the complete activitydetails of Student Branches.Dear Members,Season’s GreetingsThe rat race for engineering admissions is settlingdown slowly. Those who got the branches of theirliking would be rejoicing whereas those who havenot got the one to their liking would be discouraged.Dear students, do not get dejected that you did notthe branch of your liking. It is too early for you todecide what branch is suitable for you. Take up theone you nally got and approach with an openmind. There are challenges everywhere and you will start enjoying thechallenges as you move on, provided you do your homework well from dayone. Some of you may consider that Civil engineering is not a good branch. But think of the roads, buildings, bridges and other infrastructure, whichare all due to the work of civil engineers ! Marvelous is it not ?Do you know which branch of engineering came up rst historically? Itwas the Civil engineering. This was due to the construction of buildings, roads, bridges etc. which started from time immemorial. You can nowconnect why it is called “Civil” During the days of war when manyengineering skills were developed, those so called engineers who builtbridges, roads, buildings etc. were those who were not directly involvedwith combat or direct ghting, rather civilians. Thus these engineers cameto be known as Civil engineers. During industrial revolution, machinerystarted getting designed and fabricated and thus evolved Mechanicalengineering. The last in the group was electrical engineering whenelectricity came to be used as the power to run machinery. It laterdeveloped as the main driving power for large industries like cement, steeland later on for locomotion as in electric traction. With the above brie ng, I hope you can be happy with any branch whichyou have chosen. IEEE is there to support you in various ways under anycircumstance. You need not be one in circuit branch or computer science.Even mechanicals and civils can become member and get bene ted. Doparticipate in the various programs of IEEE organized in your college orsection along with your colleagues and friends and get bene ted. This print edition is based on the electronic editionsof Apr 2016 at http://goo.gl/ZUf74M, May 2016 athttp://goo.gl/O4IMyQ and Jun 2016 athttp://goo.gl/0qITx1.The multifarious activities of the SBs, SCs and AGs are published as a listwith reference to the detailed reports in the respective monthly electronicedition of LINK.Along with the events, some important announcements are highlighted.Including IEEE Collabtrec, Group medical insurance, Group paymentoptions for membership, New MOOC course, return-to-work for womenetc. We request our contributors to follow the guidelines available athttp://goo.gl/5MuY0c while sending the matter for publishing. We are sure that you will enjoy reading this print edition of IEEE MASLINK. Please provide your valuable feedback for improvement. Send yourfeedback by email to ieeeemaslink@gmail.com.With regardsH.R. MohanMadras SectionIt is time for those of you who are volunteering to go through the website ofIEEE and apply or nominate your colleagues for appropriate awards.
