Middletown, ConnecticutMay 2020/ Iyar-Sivan 5780PLEASE NOTE: ALL EVENTS LISTED SUBJECT TO CHANGEC O N G R E G A T I O N support each other and grieve with each other.Life is continuing for many of us. Many of usZOOMhave not seen other family members and friends inby Jonathan ShapiroI usually relish beingright!Who doesn’t likebeing right? This time, Ihate that I was right. Iprayed in last month’s column that by now, the worstwould be over and things would be returning tonormal. I feared things would not be back to normal, and that fear has been realized.Coronavirus pandemic has continued to runour lives in so many ways. Despite the craziness, Iam thrilled to see how we have successfullynavigated these unique challenges. Technology doeshave its advantages. Zoom has enabled us to remainconnected and continues to keep us connected as acommunity. I enjoy the times I have joined ourservices via Zoom and I love seeing the joy my kidshave in their Religious School Zoom Class. If youhave not seen all that we have made available viaZoom, you are missing out! We have services, school, learning with Rabbi Nelly, and Book Club. Ifthere is something you want and we have not done,Congregation Zoom is here for you. However, I recognize that nothing can replaceour direct interactions with each other. As people,we thrive to share experiences in-person: to laughtogether, to smile together, to learn together, toperson for weeks. This can be particularlydifficult for those in need of emotional support. When you are a kid, sometimes nothing beats a goodhug from mom or dad when you get hurt. We cannotgive that to each other right now.If you need anything during these difficulttimes, please do not hesitate to reach out. You havean entire congregation behind each one of you. Ifyou need food and cannot get to the grocery store, wewill find a way to get you food. If you need someoneto talk to, we will find someone to reach out to you. Ifyou are grieving, we will be there to support you.And when this is all over, we will all cometogether again to pray at Congregation Adath Israelas one community.

against localized extreme events that result from convective ac-tivity. Our criteria yielded 21 extreme precipitation events in the target region in the period 1961-2004, which are listed in Table 1. The spatial distribution of the extreme events is shown in Appendix S1 in Supporting Information. 2.1.1. Non-extreme precipitation events .

A broad consensus [7–10] favors the definition of rare events data as binary variables with much fewer events (ones) than non-events (zeros). In other words, the degree of imbalance is more extreme in rare events than it is in class imbalanced data, such that rare events are characterized by the number of ones being hundreds to thousands

One approach we can use is to play the Am pentatonic scale, but use techniques to alter the C note. For instance, you can bend the C note up to the C# note using a blues bend. In this way, the C note becomes a ‘passing note’ instead of a ‘target note’, since we don’t stay on this C note but use it in a way to get to the C# note.
