INTRODUCTIONThis Open-File Report lists U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Bureauof Mines, and State of Alaska Division of Geological and GeophysicalSurveys reports and maps on the geology, geophysics, and mineral andwater resources of Alaska published or released to open files in 1981and a few older reports that were missed when compiling earlier indexesof this series. The reports and maps are listed by the quadrangles(scale 1:250,000) into which Alaska has been subdivided for topographicmapping (p. 4).As these three agencies also issue reports and mapson other subjects, the following lists are selected in the sense thatsuch documents are not included. In general the listed reports andmaps bear a 1981 imprint date; most of those with earlier imprint datesactually were not delivered until 1981.Reports that deal with regional tectonic hypotheses, regional syntheses, Alaska as a whole, or with areas that cannot be indentifiedwith a specific quadrangle are listed under Alaska - General, as arestatistical presentations, indexes, and the like.Reports and mapsthat deal with offshore areas not within quadrangle boundaries arelisted under Offshore Areas. The Alaska - General and Offshore Areaslistsappear before the alphabetically arranged quadrangle listings. This index is intended to bring up to date the other indexes ofthis series, which are listed on p. 2-3.
