Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of ChristA Note from Our Pastor,Now that we are into the month of June, it’shelpful, I think, to look back on what hasbeen an incredibly busy May this year. Wehad 5 First Holy Communion Masses, 2Confirmation ceremonies, a hybrid St. RockHaiti gala in our Gathering Space, the full initiation as aCatholic of a member of the 2019-2020 RCIA candidateswho made his profession of faith, was confirmed, and received the Holy Eucharist for the first time. We had thepriestly ordinations of our parishioner Fr. David Campo inHoly Cross Cathedral in Boston, with his First Mass andreception here at St. Agatha’s the following day, and ofFr. Stephen Ondrey, a transitional deacon who served atSt. Agatha’s this past year, ordained last Saturday in theDiocese of Columbus, Ohio. Last Thursday we had a Masswith families who have children in our Faith Formationprogram to mark the end of the 2020-2021 Faith Formation Year. Also this past weekend we had a lovelyreception for Fr. Jay Makos with our prayers, our love, and our best wishes for him as he headed off to Sauguswhere he will be pastor of St. Margaret and BlessedSacrament Parishes. As I write this column on an overcast Memorial Day I’manticipating some wonderful events this June. June 1st willbe when we officially welcome our new parochial vicar,Fr. Thomas Stanton, who has been serving as pastor of St.Bridget’s Parish in Abington (and St. Bridget’s GrammarSchool), Holy Ghost Parish in Whitman, and overseeing 2parish cemeteries! As Fr. Jay’s experience of being a pastorbefore coming to St. Agatha’s was a great help to me as Ibecame a pastor for the first time here at St. Agatha’s, I amsure that Fr. Stanton’s experience as pastor and his eagerness to jump right in to priestly ministry here will be a greatblessing to our parish and to me personally. June is a monthfor graduations. This past Wednesday (as you are readingthe bulletin) we had the celebration of the Graduation Massfor our 8th-graders from St. Agatha School. This comingSunday Milton High School will have its graduation, andQuincy High School and North Quincy High School willhold their graduations this coming Monday and Tuesday. Many other Catholic Schools and private schools will beholding their graduation ceremonies around this same time.Let’s be sure to keep these graduates and their families inour prayers. With Jack Riley’s retirement the end of this month as ourDirector of Finance and Operations, stay tuned for moreinformation on an opportunity later this month for us as aparish to express our appreciation to Jack with a similargathering in our Parish Center (Gym) to those we just hadfor Fr. Campo and Fr. Makos. So, Mrs. Pat Clasby and herHospitality Team will be at it again in the near future! That’s what happens when you do such a good job, asthese dedicated women do—you keep getting asked to dosomething similar again and again!June 5–6, 2021It was wonderful this past weekend to have most of ourpews un-roped, our hymnals back, full congregationalsinging, and the lack of facemasks! There were many happy faces that I saw as I looked out from the sanctuary. Thefront (wing) section of the Church on the organ side willcontinue to have social distancing for folks who have notbeen fully vaccinated, or who want to continue to wearfacemasks and avoid close proximity to others. This weekend we are hoping to resume the passing of the collectionbaskets instead of having the other baskets at the churchexits as has been the case throughout the pandemic. I amhopeful that if we are in need of collectors at any of ourMasses, people who are invited to help in this regard willbe willing to assist. We are also planning in the near futureto have an instructional session for a new group of Eucharistic Ministers and perhaps lectors too. Also in the nearfuture, we will likely have a re-training of altar servers (toget the rust off after more than a year’s absence) and theopportunity to welcome new servers as well. This weekend there is a 2nd collection to aid the large number of people in India and Brazil who are suffering fromCOVID-19. This collection will be sent to Catholic ReliefServices whose members are in both India and Brazil trying to provide relief to these suffering people. Your checkshould be made out to St. Agatha Parish, and write in thememo section on the bottom of the check “India and BrazilRelief”. Thank you in advance for your generosity. As there was 2 years ago, on Thursday evening June 17th at5:30pm there will be a Night for Life at the Veterans’ Memorial Stadium in Quincy featuring, among others, CardinalSeán O’Malley, Mother Olga, Abby Johnson with whosestory you may be familiar from the movie “Unplanned,” andformer New England Patriots star Benjamin Watson. If youare planning to attend and would be interested in travelingby bus from the St. Agatha parking lot to Veterans’ Stadium, please let us know not later than this coming FridayJune 11th either by calling the rectory (617-698-2439) oremailing us at rectory@stagathaparish.org.Have a blessed week!Fr. PalardyPastoral PlanningJune 6 Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and BloodIt is the beautiful feast of Corpus Christi—the Body andBlood of Christ. During this “Year of the Eucharist”, wefocus on the fact that Christ is truly present in this giftthat is so central to our life of faith. At the Passover mealof the Last Supper, Jesus blessed and broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and now he gives it to us, his disciples. Each time we gather for Mass and receive theBody and Blood of Christ we are then sent forth to be theBody of Christ to others. This precious gift given to us byJesus is meant to be shared. He gave himself away utterly, so we must give ourselves away utterly. As you leaveMass today, be Christ’s presence to your family, friendsand co-workers.

Rectory@StAgathaParish.orgMilton—QuincyTHE WEEKLY UPDATEFEATURED WEEKLY READINGOver the last two weeks we’ve looked at the projectedbudget status at the end of the current fiscal year whichends on June 30th and the draft budgets for the next fiscalyear for both the parish and school. These will be reviewed and either approved or approved with modifications by the Parish Finance Council at its meeting on June16th. In its role as an advisory board, it will then make itsrecommendation to Fr. Palardy who will then make thefinal decision. One of the items which has been notablyabsent in these discussions has been the income from thesale of the vacant property near the Rectory to the Townof Milton for the construction of a new fire station. Thereare two reasons for this. First, as of this date, despite thevote by the Town to approve the purchase, there has beenno recent movement on the sale. The Archdiocese justthis week received the most recent draft of the Purchaseand Sales Agreement from the Town and it is being reviewed by the Real Estate and Legal Departments at thePastoral Center. Secondly, once the transaction is completed, the revenue from the sale will become part of theparish’s capital reserve and will not be used for ordinaryoperational expenses. Therefore, it is not a part of the operating budget being reviewed by the Finance Council fora recommendation to Fr. Palardy. To put it in perspective,it would not be a good idea for a household to set up abudget plan that relied on taking money from its savingsaccount to pay for things like food or utilities, unless itwere an emergency. That is why these funds are a trueblessing for the parish because they will be held aside foremergency expenses and for capital repairs and improvements in the future. For instance, the parish had to borrowmoney to complete the critical masonry repairs to theChurch and this will not be necessary should similarneeds arise in the future because we will have the moneyfrom the property sale in reserve.THEME: Jesus is our food for the journey. As you hear the story of the Lord’s Supper proclaimedtoday, what words or phrases strike you? What in thisreading touches your heart?GOSPEL : Mark 14:12-16, 22-26On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb,Jesus’ disciples said to him,“Where do you want us to goand prepare for you to eat the Passover?”He sent two of his disciples and said to them,“Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water.Follow him.Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house,‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest roomwhere I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’Then he will show you a large upper roomfurnished and ready.Make the preparations for us there.”The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them;and they prepared the Passover. While they were eating,he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said,“Take it; this is my body.”Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them,“This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.Amen, I say to you,I shall not drink again the fruit of the vineuntil the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.Jack RileyThere is immense suffering and loss of life occurring inIndia and Brazil due to the pandemic. The Catholic Church, through Catholic Relief Services (CRS), is on the ground inthose countries working to support local hospitals and programs which are being overwhelmed and which havereached a breaking point. The size and scope of the crisis is enormous. In India more24 million cases have been reported with deaths surpassing260,000. In Brazil, cases have surpassed 15 million whilemore than 428,000 deaths have been reported. This globalpandemic is both historic and devastating in its impact.More than 161 million cases have been reported and morethan 3.3 million deaths. There will be an emergency COVID special collection forthe Church in India and Brazil this weekend, June 5-6,joining all parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston. Please address your checks to St. Agatha Parish, with“India and Brazil Relief” in the memo. We are grateful for the information wereceived so that the Outreach Committee can organizeopportunities that align with the community’s needsand interests. We hope to continueand increasingly offer opportunities to participate indonation drives, food pantries, and via My Brother’sKeeper as the community expressed particular interestsin these areas.Based on the survey, members of the community arenot yet comfortable participating and gathering inperson given the current pandemic. As the warmerweather continues to let us gather safely outdoors andwith increasing vaccination rates, it is our hope thatwe’re able to offer continuous, larger service opportunities beginning this Fall.
