The Population and Housing Census of 2006 recorded a population of 1,877,889 people for Lesotho. The GNP stood at US 1970 with a total health per capita spending of about US 50. Poverty remains widespread in Lesotho; the Household Budget Survey of 2002/03 found that 29.1% of households were ‘very poor’ and 50.2% ‘poor’ in 2002/03.
