Our sisters and brothers areathletes, Residential Advisors serving the community,leaders on our StudentGovernment, crusadersfor human rights andinterests, performers insomeofthec o m m u n i t y 's m o s tprestigious musical andtheatre groups, and thelist goes on withoutend. The grades of theGreek community areconsistently higher thanthe average of theUniversity community, a fact that stands as atestament both to the men and women who chooseto go Greek and to the resources available to themthrough membership. Our members have beenrecognized on the University stage for the rolesthey've taken in the community. This year alone,Greeks were honored in all eight categories forindividual King's Crown Leadership ExcellenceAwards, recognized for community and bridgebuilding, innovation,c i v i c r e s p o n s i b i l i t y,e t h i c s a n d m o r a l i t y,spirit, wellness, and asthose who have left anindelible mark onColumbia. There is littledoubt as to how theachievements of ourcommunity have led toits unprecedentedgrowth in most recenttimes. The size of ourcommunity has grown to over 15% of theundergraduate population, boasting more than 1,500members. Greeklife leaders from all over the Northeast attended toparticipate in three days of workshops, generalsessions and idea sharing.Each year the conference concludes with a closingbanquet, where the Northeast Greek LeadershipAssociation recognizes outstanding chapters,councils, Greek communities and individuals withthe presentation of awards. This year our InterGreekCouncil was awarded:The Amy Vojta Impact Award for ChapterDevelopment and LeadershipNew Member SummitThe second-annual InterGreek Council New Member Summitheld on Saturday, April 6th, was an program held for newlyinitiated members for 2012-2013 school year. This program, awinner of the Amy Voijta Impact Award for ChapterDevelopment and Leadership, once again featured the Keynotepresentation of Buy In or Get Out, by CAMPUSPEAK's DavidStollman, which centered around the values and mission ofGreek-letter organizations. Beyond initiating importantconversations about standards, accountability, and the benefitsof Greek membership, has been pivotal in serving as anopportunity for cross-council education, and has brought uscloser as a community by providing a forum in which ourdiverse membership can actively participate and learn aboutthe diversity of Greek life on our campus. Through thecontinued implementation of the New Member Summit, wehope to create a shared experience for the members of theGreek community which emphasizes the tradition ofleadership, scholarship, and empowerment by engaging eachgroup of new members in conversations with one another andwith leaders across the community in discussions aboutstereotypes of Greek membership, values common to all Greekorganizations, and the importance of raising communitystandards in order to better our collective experience.MAY 2013!VOLUME II, ISSUE I, PAGE 5

Nevena Pehar, AOIIConsultant, stated:“The Alpha Colony of AOIIis excited to be Installed asan official Chapter of AOIIon May 5th, 2013 at LowL i b r a r y. A l o n g w i t hinitiating our members wewill also install our newlyelected officers at our May5th Ritual. We thank thecommunity for being sowelcoming!”AOII’s colonization andinstillation conclude asemester of planning andpreparation to recolonizethe organization’s AlphaChapter, originally installedby their four Founders onJanuary 2nd, 1897 at BarnardCollege of ColumbiaUniversity. The organizationclosed its chapter in 1912, when allGreek life was eliminated fromBarnard.
