On June 19th you said goodbye and thank you to Pastor Christensen who faithfully served you for 18 months. On July 10th you welcomed my family and I as we began our ministry partnership. Then on July 17th we started a five-week sermon series followed by town hall meetings where together we began to discern where God is calling us. Where as mostcongregations think of the summer as "down time" OSLC kept busy. As a matter offact attendance was up approximately 29% compared to the past two years! Sothank you! Thank you for making church a priority this summer, and keep it up.As we roll into this program year, the staff here at OSLC is going to try hardto provide you opportunities to deepen your faith. Sunday's will be a big day atOSLC. Besides worship there will also be time for Sunday School, Adult Education,Confirmation and a time of fellowship. In order to accommodate this we still besticking to our one service schedule. Sundays will look like this:9:00—9:45 a.m. – Education Hour10:00 a.m. – Worship11:00 a.m. – FellowshipAs you think about how you will be spending your Sundays this fall, pleasemake it a priority to come for education hour and stay through the fellowshiptime. Scripture tells us that the Word of God helps guide our lives, and I believe theOSLC staff has structured Sunday mornings to help you hear, learn and experienceGod's Word in such as way that it will fuel your week.continued on page 2

continued from page 1If you're not able to come every Sunday morning I understand. We all have busy lives, andsometimes it's hard to make it. Here are a few suggestions for how to incorporate faith time into yourlife if you miss a week: Sermons will be posted online. Check them and give them a listen. If you’re traveling take your Bible with you. Bibles love to travel with you!Join me on Tuesday mornings for Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. in the church library. This is an exciting time to be a member at OSLC. One of the things that stood out to me duringour town hall events this summer, was how important it will be for us to hold to God's Word and allowit to be our guiding light. This summer we began the process of listening for where God is calling us,now it's time to start moving and it begins on Sunday's.See you in church,Pastor WesP.S. Liz is neardeath, wracked by disturbing visions of thefuture, and armed with “the Code,” a fiercelyguarded cryptic means of communication forslaves on the run. Liz’s flight and her dreams oftomorrow will thrust all those near her toward amysterious, redemptive fate. Safe Parking ProgramSafe Parking continues to be a challenging and rewarding ministry in our church. I am constantly amazed by the wonderful opportunities God gives us to be of service to his children! I feelhonored and blessed to work with this population. We had beenat full capacity with six cars in our lot and had even had to turn away a mother with children being referred by the Issaquah Food Bank because we were full. Just today I met with two of our women individually. One of them turned in her dashboard permit that we had issued. She has been able to find stable housing!!!! She has been working full-time and has finally gotten enough money to move. She expressed over and over again how much she appreciated being able to legally stay in our parking lotwithout fear. She said she felt very safe there and that our ministry made a huge difference in her life ata time when she was desperate. I have contacted theIssaquah Food Bank to let them know we haveanother opening in case the family they were trying to help still needs a place to go.Each of our women is on her own journey. One will complete an on-line medical coding certificationclass in September and feels that it is likely to lead to a well paying job. Another has been promoted to afull-time job where she had been working part-time. Another is a senior citizen and has applied for social security based on many years of work. Unfortunately she will not make enough to live in KingCounty but she is and will continue to look for other work to supplement her income. Another womanis fleeing a domestic violence situation and is trying to get her feet on the ground. Our last couple areboth disabled and receive social security disability. They are hoping to be able to move to subsidizedhousing. For all of our women the trauma is deep and the needs are many. I am always so impressed with theingenious ways they make ends meet. They are survivors and I admire them. They want simple thingslike bottled water, money for laundry, showers and gas. Many do belong to the Issaquah CommunityCenter, where they can take showers. They are aware and utilize day centers in Bellevue and NorthBend where they can do their laundry and take showers. As time goes on I am hoping to enlist the helpof church members in donating more of your gifts. It would be wonderful to have gas gift cards that wecould give out as needed. It would be nice if we had funds to help with laundry and showers. Some ofour women might like and benefit from having mentors. The church might like to consider providing ahot meal once a week or if we had children, a place to do homework/have tutoring at night. This is mywish list and all of these things will need to be carefully considered and prayed about. They will needthe approval of council. What you can do right now is pray for the women, pray for Les and I that wewould be of good service to the women and that his will would be done. Finally, pray to God for hisguidance as to weather or not he is leading you toward this ministry. Consider what gifts he has givenyou that you might use to work in this ministry. Are you good at tutoring children? Are you good atmentoring? Would you be able to cook and serve a hot meal sometimes? Could you supply gift cards orbottled water? How is God calling you to serve?Submitted by OSLC Member & Safe Parking Ministry Member, Kate Gagnon, (kjgagnon@yahoo.com)6
