For maximum safety, perform this installation on a clean, level surface and with theengine turned off. (Set the parking brake to ensure that thevehicle does not move during installation).2005-2009: Work the upper part of the shift bootout of the retainer groove of the shift knob andslide down onto stick.2005-2010: Remove the knob by turning counterclockwise.STEP 2. Remove the shifter boot.2005-2009: Place fingers or Trim Tool underneathouter corners of the shifter boot and pull up tounsnap from the center console. STEP 3. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Open the rear storage compartment cover on thecenter console. Firmly grab the upper centerconsole and pull upward to unsnap from the lowercenter console. (Opening the cup holder covermay facilitate removal of the top center consolepiece).STEP 4. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Disconnect the ESC/Hazard/Trunk Releaseharness from the bottom of the center console.Remove the center console and set aside.STEP 5. Remove rubber dust boot from shift stickby pulling up and out of the floor pan opening andsliding it over the shift stick. Set boot aside.STEP 6. STEP 7. Remove the hex nut that secures thetransmission linkage rod to the bottom of theshifter and set aside.TOOL: 13mm WrenchSTEP 8. Remove the transmission linkage rod bypulling it out of the stock shifter.STEP 9. Remove the front bolt that attaches theshifter assembly arm to the transmission and setaside.TOOL: 10mm WrenchSTEP 10. Remove the two (2) hex nuts thatsecure the rear mount of the shifter assembly tothe floor and set aside.TOOL: 10mm Deep Socket, Ratchet, ExtensionTechnical Support (707) 544‐47614www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 11. Remove the metal bracket from the rearrubber mount and set aside.NOTE: Some Mustangs may contain a clip on oneor both of the studs making the bracket difficult toremove. Carefully remove the bracket by workingit from side to side until it is removed. DO NOTforce the bracket off the studs by pulling it downas these clips can damage the threads.(The picture shows a bracket with only one (1) clipthat has been moved out of the way instead ofbeing removed.)AssemblySTEP 12. Remove the stock shifter from thevehicle. One method is to move the entire shifterassembly down so that just the top part of the stickis inside the vehicle. Then move the shifterassembly forward enough so that the tail end ofthe shifter can be pushed upwards through thetunnel opening. Once the tail end is through theopening, the shifter can be removed from theinside of the vehicle.STEP 13. Place the factory shifter on a workbenchand remove the two (2) metal flanged sleevesfrom the front rubber bushings on the shifterassembly arm.TOOL: Flat Head ScrewdriverTechnical Support (707) 544‐47615www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 14. Remove the two (2) plastic bushingsfrom the bottom of the shifter. These bushingsshould be removed by hand to not damage them.STEP 15. Place the HURST shifter on aworkbench and insert the two (2) metal flangedsleeves into the bushings in the HURST shifterassembly arm.STEP 16. Insert the two (2) plastic bushings intothe bottom of the HURST shifter.STEP 17. From the inside of the vehicle, carefullyinsert the HURST shifter assembly through theconsole and into the opening in the floor tunnel. Ifyou can push the tail end of the shifter assemblydown into the tunnel from the inside, you shoulddo so. If not, this can be done from underneath thevehicle.NOTE: The ridges on the upper stick must facetowards the passenger’s side.Technical Support (707) 544‐47616www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 18. From underneath the vehicle, work theHURST shifter assembly forward so that the tailend can go through the tunnel opening. (Followguidelines given in STEP 12). Then attach thefront shifter arm to the transmission and insert thehex bolt removed in STEP 9 but do not tighten atthis time.TOOL: 10mm WrenchSTEP 19. Attach the metal bracket to the rearurethane mount on the HURST shifter assemblyand align the holes in the bracket with the two (2)threaded studs on the vehicle. Replace the two(2) hex nuts removed in STEP 10 and tightensecurely.TOOL: 10mm Deep Socket, Ratchet, ExtensionNOTE: Make sure the metal bracket “hugs” theurethane mount and sits in its groove. Theurethane mount may need to be moved forwardor back to align with the bracket and the studs.DO NOT over tighten the hex nuts. Excessiveforce can break the studs.STEP 20. Tighten the hex bolt from STEP 18 thatsecures the shifter arm to the transmission. Insertthe transmission linkage rod into the bushings atthe bottom of the HURST shifter. Replace the hexnut removed in STEP 7 and tighten securely.TOOL: 10mm Wrench, 13mm WrenchNOTE: Offset (long side) of connector located onstick bottom must face towards the driver’s side. Ifthe serrations on the lower stick are facing thepassenger side, then the connector is in thecorrect orientation.Technical Support (707) 544‐47617www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 21. Carefully lower vehicle. From insidethe vehicle, attach the HURST upper stick to thelower stick with two (2) stick mounting washersand two (2) stick mounting screws and tighten.TOOL: 7/32 Hex Wrench (Allen Key)STEP 22. OPTIONAL: ISOLATOR INSTALLATIONThe provided neoprene isolators can be installed tohelp reduce some of the transmission noise thatmay be transmitted through the shifter stick. Installone or both of the isolators between the lower stickand the upper stick. Attach using two (2) washersand two (2) screws and tighten.NOTE: The isolators may not eliminate ALLtransmission noise or vibration and may reduceshift feel and overall strength of the system.STEP 23. Reinstall the rubber boot that wasremoved in STEP 5. Push down the lower lip of theboot through the vehicle’s tunnel to ensure aproper seal. With the boot in place, test the shifteroperation. Move shifter through all the gears andmake sure that it engages each gear fully and thatthe stick moves freely from side to side in theNeutral position. STEP 24. Push the rubber boot support onto theHURST chrome stick.STEP 25. Replace the shifter boot that wasremoved in STEP 2.2005-2009: Slide the boot over the HURSTchrome stick. Position the boot correctly andcarefully press down around the outer edges untilthe retainer clips snap firmly into place. Work theboot into the groove of the rubber boot support.Skip to STEP 31.2010: See STEP 26STEP 26. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Remove the boot material from the plasticretainer.NOTE: The boot material is attached to theplastic retainer with a strong adhesive. Slowly pullon the boot to remove from retainer. Slighttearing of the boot may occur. Alternatively, youcan use scissors or a blade to cut the boot freefrom the retainer.TOOL: (Optional) Scissors or a blade.Technical Support (707) 544‐47619www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 27. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Place the upper center console loosely over thelower center console. Arrange the upper centerconsole in a way that will give you some workingroom between both consoles. Slide the boot overthe HURST chrome stick.STEP 28. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Work the boot over the rubber boot support.Make sure the boot material is properlyorientated and attach a zip tie around the bootmaterial. Make sure the zip tie is in the groove ofthe rubber boot support and tighten. Cut off theexcess zip tie material.TOOL: Cutting pliersSTEP 29. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Reconnect the ESC/Hazard/Trunk Releaseharness that was disconnected in STEP 4.STEP 30. 2010 MUSTANGS ONLY:Replace upper center console to lower centerconsole by snapping into place.Technical Support (707) 544‐476110www.HURST‐SHIFTERS.com

STEP 31. Attach the Knob Nut onto the HURSTstick and thread down as far as possible withoutforcing it.STEP 32. Screw on the HURST knob all theway down until it contacts the knob nut, thenback it off until the orientation of the shiftpattern/logo is correct.STEP 33. With one hand holding the knob in thecorrect orientation, use the other hand to tightenthe knob nut up against the knob.TOOL: 9/16” WrenchSTEP 34. Congratulations.
