Hopefully the weather willbegin to improve soon and we willbe able to enjoy being outside more.At Long Meadow we encourage our childrento learn in the outside environment as muchas possible and I know that many of ourchildren really enjoy taking their learningoutside. We are looking forward to startingForest School sessions again after Easter andwe are grateful to Mr Roe for leading thesesessions. Mr Roe also works with our JuniorPark Rangers and our Junior NeighbourhoodAction Group – these children are very proactive about helping us all to understand howwe can look after our environment.Thank you to parents who came along tosupport our Fair Trade Friday Afternoon Teaevent last week. We are pleased to report thatwe were able to raise the sum of 62.50 whichhas been sent to the Fair Trade charity.Maybe more importantly, as a result of ourcurriculum being linked to Fair Trade lastweek, our children have a really goodunderstanding of how they can make adifference to the lives of other people. Despitethe snowy conditions, lots ofchildren and staff managed tocome to school dressed in someamazing costumes.THOUGHTFUL AND COURTEOUS CAR PARKINGWould everyone who uses the car park at the front of the school please beaware of the allocated parking spaces, disabled parking spaces, double yellowlines and white zig zag lines that are printed on the road. We have recentlyreceived complaints from local residents about cars blocking their drivewaysand, of course, this is not acceptable as we are part of the local community andneed to be considerate to all of our neighbours. We understand that the carpark is very busy at the beginning and end of the day but we all mustremember that the lines are there for the safety of our children and everyoneelse. The park was officially opened by PeteWinkelman, the chairman of MK Dons. The children were given the opportunity tomeet the local parish councillors and Mr Winkelman. They also got to try out theamazing new equipment and to pose for photographs. PHOTO GALLERYEarly Years attend Prince Charming’s BallThe children were very excited when they received an invitation from PrinceCharming to go to his ball and they got ready by making masks and necklaces.They also prepared iced royal biscuits for the event. They got to ballroom dancewith a partner and even got to meet Price Charming (Mr Elliott) and Cinderella(Miss Roberts). The girls loved trying Cinderella's slipper on, then attending thewedding of the Prince and Cinderella.Early Years Get BakingThe child loved learning how to make a Gingerbread Man! We even checked to seethat our Gingerbread Men didn't shout out, "Run, run as fast as you can, you can'tcatch us we are the Gingerbread Men!"

PDSA visitYear 1 and Early Years had the opportunity on 10th January to learn how to lookafter pets. They also had they opportunity to buy mementos of the visit where themoney went to the charity.Junior Park Rangers UpdateSince the last edition of the school’s newsletter the children have been very busy. Theydelivered a very important January Bulletin in assembly about feeding wild birds and givingadvice about how to stay safe near water in winter. If you want any further informationplease ask either one of the Rangers or Mr Roe.More recently they have been helping to put up a bird box and butterfly home in the secretgarden. Let’s hope they make someone a good home.On Monday 29th January they took part in the RSPB’s bird watch event and recorded all thebirds they could see from their viewing point on the school field. They saw crows, pigeons,magpies and a kite.

YEAR 5 SEND COWS INTO SPACE!Year 5 have been involved in a spectacular space project! They all made miniatureconcrete cows (out of clay) as part of a competition run by Digital Imaging. Theywere only allowed to be the size of a sugar cube and weigh no more than 4 grams.The lucky 6 winning cows will be sent into space on a rocket in April and thenreturn to Earth to hopefully be collected and returned home! The winning cowmakers got to visit the lab at Bletchley Park and walk on the moon using a virtualreality headset.YEAR 5 VISIT THE SPACE CENTREThis week the children in Year 5 were lucky enough to go to the National SpaceCentre in Leicester. They spent the day learning about earth and space in line withtheir current topic. During the day they had a planetarium experience, got to see areal life rocket and had a really interactive experience.

YEAR 2 GO TO HAZARD ALLEY SAFETY CENTREYear 2 had a brilliant time at Hazard Alley Safety Centre. The children reallyenjoyed the trip and asked very thoughtful questions. They learnt what to do in theevent of a fire, how to cross the road safely, how to be safe around water and traintracks plus how to put somebody in the recovery postition. Some children evendialled 999!
