ALG in-house English proficiency testALG offers an in-house English proficiency test for students that need to provide evidence of their Englishproficiency and that do not meet any of ALG’s alternative evidentiary requirements. The test is free ofcharge for the first attempt and you can book an appointment to complete the placement test on-campus.Offshore applicants will be able to complete the ALG in-house English proficiency test online. ALG reservesthe right to require such students to undertake a further confirmatory test on-campus before thecommencement of their course.For any further information, please contact our Admissions team at admissions@alg.edu.au.3. Australian vocational qualificationsStudents that provide a completed Certificate IV level qualification (or higher) from the AustralianQualifications Framework completed in Australian within two years of the commencement of your studieswith ALG are not required to provide further evidence of their English proficiency.4. Students already enrolled with ALG and moving to a higher-level qualificationIf you have successfully completed a qualification with ALG and wish to enrol in a higher-level qualificationwith us that requires a higher IELTS score or equivalent, you may be exempt from these requirements basedon your academic record.5. Completion of ELICOS program before you start your ALG courseAs an international student, you may package your intended course at ALG with an English language coursefrom an ELICOS provider. Under a packaged program, you may apply for a student visa for the combinedduration of the ELICOS and ALG course.Please note that completion of your ELICOS program is not sufficient evidence of your English proficiencyin terms of ALG’s entry requirements. You will be required to undertake an ALG in-house English proficiencytest to evidence your proficiency before commencing your course at ALG.6. Regardless of ALG’s English proficiency requirements, all international applicants should be aware that theymust satisfy the Department of Home Affairs evidentiary requirements in relation to their student visaapplication, which may differ to ALG’s.Details of the Department of Home Affairs requirements can be found at https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/.Conditional Letter of Offer (LoO) and Conditional Confirmation ofEnrolment (CoE)A Conditional LoO and Conditional CoE may be issued if you have not yet provided evidence of your Englishproficiency. English Placement TestsIf you are unable to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as specified in the above table,you can take an English placement test approved by ALG to demonstrate your proficiency. The approvedtest provider will advise ALG whether you satisfy ALG’s English proficiency entry requirements for thecourse you are applying for.4. Australian vocational qualificationsIf you can provide a completed Certificate IV qualification (or higher) from the Australian QualificationsFramework issued within two years of the commencement of your studies with ALG, you will be enrolledwithout having to prove your English language proficiency.5. Exemption of English proficiency evidenceIf you are a citizen and hold a passport from the UK, the USA, Canada (excluding Quebec), NZ or the Republicof Ireland, you do not have to present any English evidence as part of your application.Regardless of ALG’s English proficiency requirements, all international applicants should be aware that theymust still satisfy the Department of Home Affairs requirements for their student visa application, whichmay include the provision of evidence of English proficiency.
