NELSONThe Ontario-Quebec camp meeting asusual was held on the campus of OshawaMissionary College with the attendanceas large as at any previous time.The help from the General Conferenceincluded Elder R. R. Figuhr, president ofour world organization. His messages tothe workers and members were most in spiring.Dr. M. G. Hardinge, from the Collegeof Medical Evangelists, gave a series ofstudies through the entire camp meeting.His practical counsel on healthful livinginterpreted the teachings of the Spirit ofProphecy in a way that made a deep im pression upon all the hearers. Many friendsfrom the community attended Dr. Hardinge’s meetings.Elders E. E. Roenfelt, Neal Wilson,H.M.S. Richards and the King’s Heraldsalso brought inspiration to those in attend ance. All the services were wonderfullyhelpful. The camp meeting at Oshawaregistered as the best in the experience ofthe work in this field.Likewise in the Maritime Conferencethe camp meeting was well attended andthe meetings were a blessing to all. ElderA. V. Olson, Professor E. E. Cossentine,Dr. Lynn Wood and Elder H. B. Weekswere the principal speakers from the Gen eral Conference. Their messages left adeep impression that all who heard hadbeen built up in the most holy faith. Mrs.Cossentine and Mrs. Wood were in at tendance with their husbands.W ith the exception of Elders Olsonand Weeks the same personnel attendedthe St. John’s, Newfoundland, camp meet ing. The meetings were held in the newchurch.The workers and members in New foundland felt too that the services thisyear had new meaning for them and theywere strengthened to live and to work withincreased devotion for the Lord.Four men were ordained to the gospel ministry at O sh aw a. Vacation Bible SchoolsIn Maritimes and Newfoundlandof whom were parents and friends of thechildren from non-Adventist homes, andsome of whom were there for the firsttime. The very fine programme given bythe students brought inspiration to allpresent, and a feeling of satisfaction andjoy to the leaders and teachers.Following the programme at the closeof the Sabbath the congregation was in vited to view the display of crafts ar ranged on tables in the basement class room. Many exclamations of approvalwere voiced by friends and relatives asthey closely and critically inspected thevarious masterpieces.w. m . m e r c e r , PastorMaritime Camp MeetingThirty-sixchildren attended the VacationSchool in North Sydney.BibleNorth SydneyThe Vacation Bible School held in ourbeautiful church building at North Syd ney during the week of July 6-12 washighly successful and thoroughly enjoyedby students and teachers alike.One of the interesting and encouragingfeatures of the school was the fact that al most one-third of the students were fromnon-Adventist homes, representing severaldifferent denominations. The thirty-sixchildren who attended were divided evenlyinto the three divisions: junior, primary,and kindergarten.The programme was conducted underthe supervision of the pastor who also tookcharge of the junior division. Mrs. DonaldKing of Sydney Mines and the pastor’swife led out in the primary and kinder garten divisions respectively. They wereassisted by Mrs. Olive Brown, Miss PhylisPyke, and Miss Madeline Crews who willingly gave of their time and talent to helpmake the school a success.A high degree of interest was manifestedby the students in all three phases of theprogramme: the spiritual activities, thecrafts and the games. By doubling up eachday’s assignment it was possible to coverthe ten-day programme in the six days ofour school. The craft periods were highlyenjoyed. The kindergarten children madeinteresting objects from their workbooks.The primary division brought forth beau tiful creations of plaster plaques andstuffed dolls. The juniors expertly manu factured plywood pot-holder hangers.Our closing programme was held dur ing the closing hour of the Sabbath beforean almost full church attendance, manyV o l.27, No. 19, S e p t e m b e r 17, 1958Camp meetings are especially inspira tional when special sendees such as thebaptismal and ordination services are held.Four workers were ordained to the gospelministry on Sabbath, August 16. EldersNelson, Peterson, Cossentine, and localministers participated in the ordinationservice for Elders F. J. Crump, C. R.Neill, H. L. Friesen and W . M. Mercer.In the afternoon a beautiful baptismalsendee was conducted by three of theministers. Fourteen were baptized.W e shall long remember the specialSpirit of Prophecy messages given by El der A. V. Olson, also the trip to our va rious schools and colleges via kodachromeslides with Elder Cossentine, the depth ofChrist’s love revealed by Dr. Lynn Woodin his sermon on our Lord’s humiliation,and the climactic sermon by Elder N el son.Even now we are planning for a largercamp meeting next year.p . m o o r e s , PresidentMrs. Mabel Dingwell and Mrs. F. Twolarge photographs were printed: one show ing the junior boys working with a bandsaw, and another showing the primaryclass busily engaged at painting their plast er of paris plaques and aluminum etchwork.In an eight-inch column the reporterfrom the Star described the various phasesof the kindergarten, primary, and juniorclasswork. Mention was made of the pur pose the Seventh-day Adventist churchhas in holding these summer Bible schools,primarily in reaching the many childrenwho pour out of schools during the sum mer months by providing handicrafts andChristian recreation, and acquaintingmany for the first time with the Gospel.The Corner Brook church has receivedmuch favourable comment.F . Their sendees gave our peoplea greater appreciation of the soul-winningvalue of our Seventh-day Adventist Faithfor Today television programme whichgoes from coast to coast in the UnitedStates and is received over a number ofstations in Canada.Appreciation is hereby expressed toElder W. B. Ochs and the other GeneralConference and Union brethren and mis sionaries for the splendid help that theygave throughout the entire camp meetingtime.Elder Davies reports offerings of 6,275.41 for camp meeting period atLacombe. Of this, 1,119.17 was Sab bath school mission offerings. Of the spe cial camp meeting offering 2,695.24 wascash, and 2,461.00 in pledges. BrotherHow', Book and Bible House manager, re ports that the camp meeting sales were sev eral hundred dollars larger than last year.A spirit of consecration and dedicationwas felt throughout the entire camp meet ing and our people went home with anew determination to be positive witnessesfor the Message in their neighbourhoods.W . Jennings,dentist of Calgary; then Dr. W . Phillips,optometrist of Calgary; and Hervey Gimbel, M.D., of Calgary. On the extreme leftis Mrs. Dieter Hain, R.N. Dr. Tetz andDr. J. A. McKibbin led out in the healthw'ork at the camp meeting.Overseas SpeakersThe Skoretz brothers (left to rig ht): Frank, Rudolphand Dan.Trio of WorkersThe Alberta Conference has a Skoretztrio.Frank has recently settled with his fam ily in Stettler where he is leader of thedistrict which includes Stettler, Sedgewick, and Loyalist.Rudolph has just completed a summerof language study at the SaskatchewanUniversity and has now gone to Vegreville where he will live and work withthe Ukrainian speaking people of thatarea. W e welcome these two new workersand their families.Elder Dan Skoretz has been with usfor some time and is carrying heavy re sponsibilities in Edmonton, the capital ofthe province.248Elders J. B. Dr. L. A. Senseman, president of theSeventh-day Adventist Self-Supporting In stitutions Association, visited the AlbertaConference during the last week of Au gust. Dr. Senseman had been sent toSaskatoon to deliver five lectures on tem perance and since he was so close to theCanadian Rockies, he thought this wasthe opportunity to see Banff and LakeLouise for the first time. He reported thatthe beauty of this section surpassed any thing that he had ever seen, includingthe Swiss Alps. Elder Clarence Long, former pastor ofthe Calgary church, accompanied by Mrs.Long and three children, was a guest atthe office recently. He is now working inthe Michigan Conference. The familywere on their way to Canadian Union Col lege where Elder Long performed the mar riage ceremony of William Kennedy andJean Donesky. Elder and Mrs. D. Mackintosh, ofHolly, Michigan, stopped at the confer ence office on their return trip to Hollywhere he is pastor. Elder Mackintosh wasa guest speaker at the Rosebud fiftieth an niversary programme held over the week end of August 8-10.
