Thetournament will take place Sundayat the Holmes Convention Center inBoone, North Carolina, with the SoContitle and 14 NCAA allocations on theline. Campbell will look to defend itstournament title from 2019 after takingthis year’s regular-season title, withAppalachian State finishing as a closesecond.Six of last year’s SoCon individualchampions will be back in the field thisyear, attempting to defend titles in theirrespective weight classes. Campbell’sKorbin Meink (125), Josh Heil (149) andChris Kober (184) all return after titles lastyear, with Heil dropping down to 141pounds this year. Appalachian State’sCodi Russell (133) and Cary Miller (HWT)are back for another year, while VMI’sNeal Richards (174) attempts to defendhis title. The SoCon was allocated 14spots in the NCAA Championships, onefor each weight class except for the 149,174, 184 and 285-pound weight classes,which were awarded two each.Campbell’s Meink, the defending125-pound champion, will face stiffcompetition for his title as he entersas the third seed, with Chattanooga’sFabian Gutierrez and AppalachianState’s Sean Carter seeded first andsecond, respectively. All three wrestlerswere ranked in the latest NCAA coaches’panel, with Gutierrez ranked No. 24,Carter No. 28 and Meink coming in atNo. 31.Campbell’s Noah Gonser is aiming for hisfirst title at 133 pounds after finishing asthe runner-up last year.
