Arlington County Public SchoolsHighlights at a Glance Arlington County Public Schools (APS) is the recipient of the prestigiousMedallion of Excellence Award presented by the U.S. Senate, and Productivityand Quality Awards for Virginia and the District of Columbia. City of Fairfax Public SchoolsSince 1962, the City of Fairfax School Board has contracted with Fairfax CountyPublic Schools (FCPS) for the delivery of educational services. The City SchoolBoard owns and is responsible for its school buildings. Students in city schoolshave access to the same programs as are provided in all FCPS schools.The City of Fairfax School Division is comprised of four buildings housing some5,500 students in grades PreK-12. About 3,100 of these students are residentsof the City of Fairfax, with the remainder residing in Fairfax County.City of Fairfax Schools include: Daniels Run and Providence ElementaryDaniels Run and Providence elementary schools completed majorrenovations in 2000. Both schools provide a state of the art instructionalenvironment, with technology available as a tool for learning. Both schoolshave additional resources to support a focus on mathematics, science, andtechnology. These schools are among the first in the region to offer worldlanguage instruction to all students. Each school has a capacity of about800 students. Lanier Middle SchoolLanier Middle School, often recognized for the rigor of its academicprogram, completed an extensive renovation in the spring of 2008. Therenovated school provides a technology rich learning environment, as wellas superior facilities for instruction in physical education and the arts. Thecapacity of Lanier is approximately 1,200 students. Fairfax High SchoolFairfax High School, renovated and rededicated in the fall of 2007, is anacademic and arts showcase. Offering students a challenging academicprogram, including a full range of AP courses, as well as the specializedprograms of the Fairfax Academy for Communication Arts, graduates arefully prepared for their futures; approximately 90 percent continue theireducations in post secondary institutions.
