In the intervening years,many important reference publications on Jimi's life and legacy have appeared. A few of those were drawn upon heavily as theselists evolved, and now they contain a great deal of information that does not represent my work, but rather the work of the authorsof those publications.This Track List and the companion Discography are distributed with the hope that they will be useful to some people in trying tosort through all the various official and unofficial releases that exist, and also all the privately circulating recordings that have notappeared on vinyl or factory-stamped CD. These documents are intended to be circulated freely and for free (not for profit) andnot to be published in any other form. Users should feel free to modify them for their own private use, but I would ask that onlythe unmodified versions be circulated.Full credit is given to publications that have contributed substantially to these lists, and users should realize how great thosecontributions were. Some of these I own, some I don't. I have includedsong timings for the releases that I have. Songs are timed from first note to last.Releases are numbered. This numbering is purely arbitrary, but provides a handle for quickly searching out a particular release.Releases are numbered roughly chronologically, although with studio releases this becomes problematic. Nonetheless, I find thisscheme to be the most useful. Numbering uses a "P" prefix for Pre-Experience releases, "E" for official post-1966 releases, "G"for releases by other artists with Jimi as guest (excepting Pre-Experience releases), "U" for unofficial releases (bootleg or pirate),"T" for private CD-Rs and tapes, and "V" for videos.For those who are accustomed to the release numbering in the Jimpress books (see below), I apologize.Discography lists Jimpress release numbers for every entry. See that list for details.However, theDates are in U.S. format (mm/dd/yy).Song titles are not always as given on packages. Bootlegs are notorious for inaccurate titles. I have tried to use consistent songtitles, and in the case where more than one title is generally accepted (Beginnings / Jam Back at the House, for instance) I have

picked one according to personal preference. Most however are given primary titles in agreement with Jimpress, to makecomparison easier. Alternate track titles are cross-referenced to minimize confusion, even including most of the inaccurate tracklistings on releases.For studio tracks, I have given information from several sources:1) Information according to Jimi Hendrix: Electric Gypsy by Shapiro and Glebbeek, continued in "UniVibes"by Glebbeek (indicated by the letter "G").2) Information according to Plug Your Ears by Kees de Lange (indicated by the letter "P").3) Information according to Jimpress, and in particular the multi-volume set From the Benjamin Franklin Studios (indicatedby the letter "J").4) Information from Sessions by McDermott et al., updated by information from Ultimate Hendrix by McDermott et al.(indicated by the letter "S").Studio recording info is according to these references. Also given at the right-hand side are track index numbers from "G" andreference numbers from "J."A few tracks are included on which Jimi does not participate. These are either:actual fakes which are included on Jimi releases of post-1966 material,a few pre-Experience tracks (such as some Little Richard tracks, for instance) on which Jimi does notplay, but which are included on Jimi releases, ortracks from sessions or live jams where Jimi was present and played on other tracks from the samesession, but does not play on these particular tracksprobably a few miscellaneous other tracks that are of interest for other reasonsFor a more complete discussion of Pre-Experience tracks, see the Discography.Interviews are listed at the end.Official compilation releases are generally excluded, except for a few cases where some material had its first release there. Thesame applies for official "various artists" anthology releases, with the same exception.Official singles from the Discography are not included. This is mostly due to the fact that i own very few of them, and so don'tknow the mix of each track that appears on them.Bootleg CD-Rs from the Discography are not included, only factory-pressed CDs are included. This might change in the future,but opening the door to CD-Rs allows virtually any home-made disc to be included, even those that are not bootlegs in thetraditional sense. The bootleg CDRs that Jimpress lists in its publications are given in the Discography, but are not crossreferenced here. Don't worry, you're not missing much.With this understanding, bootleg listings are as nearly complete as possible.Private CD-Rs and tapes are included, but only my own. This is of less general use to others, but it's useful to me (after all, thislist is primarily for my own reference). With the advent of mass trading via CD-R or internet, more private releases arecirculating under a uniform name, so this section may be of more use to other people now than it used to be.Officially released videos and a couple of major unreleased videos are also included. I do not include the many short clips (bothsound and silent) that exist. That is the subject of another list! This category is an afterthought and is not very complete.
