SKM Air Cooled Packaged ChillersAPCX Series - R134aGeneral FeaturesCondensersHigh Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)Condenser coils are manufactured from seamless Hi-x coppertubes mechanically bonded to aluminum fins to ensure optimumheat transfer. All coils are tested against leakage by air pressureof 450 psig (3100 KPa) under water. All standard coils are 3 or 4rows with 14 FPI, (1.8 mm) fin spacing, 3/8” (9.5 mm) O.D. tubes.APCX chillers use, exclusively, high efficiency semi-hermeticcompressors having a unique valve design. EER ratings forAPCX chillers at ARI conditions are listed in Capacity RatingsCondenser fin materials should be matched with site conditionsto inhibit coil corrosion and ensure extended equipments life.For different application requirements, other optional condenserfin materials are available:Parallel Compressors OperationAPCX chillers are equipped with multiple compressors connectedin parallel in order to achieve greater operating flexibility. By cyclingindividual compressors the system capacity can be modulatedwith full power savings for the compressors in operation. By usingthe system of parallel compressors operation, uncomplicatedunload start is achieved by a simple time delay starting of singlecompressors as opposed to a compressor start with the totalcapacity.Wide Operating Range Copper fins only electrotinned.Copper coils electro-tinned after manufacturingPrecoated Aluminum finsThe pre-coated is hydrophobic polyurethane resin. In addition, thecoating is ideal for the protection of ferrous and non ferrousmaterials.APCX chillers are designed, as standard, to operate at a widerange of ambient temperatures from 50 F (10 C), or lower ifoptional low ambient operation kit is included, to 125 F (52 C).Condensers Fans & MotorsMain Component FeaturesCompressorsCompressors used in APCX series are fully accessible, semihermetic, reciprocating type, equipped with an oil sight glass,suction and discharge service valves and crankcase heater. Theseare refrigerant gas cooled and equipped with an oil pressurelubrication system. The oil pump working in either direction isprotected by an oil screen and a valve provided for the fittingof an oil pressure gauge. For protection, all compressors areequipped with preset internal relief valve between suction anddischarge sides.The compressors are provided with vibration isolator mountingunder the compressors skid and therefore, external to APCXchillers, AVM’s may be necessary only for critical applications.The compressor motors have inherent thermal protection. Thisis in addition to other standard safety and protection controls.The condenser fans are propeller type, aluminum alloy blades,directly driven by electric motors. Motors are Totally Enclosed AirOver (TEAO) six pole with class ‘F’ insulation and IP55 protection.The TEAO and class ‘F’ insulation features ensure long life andare unique to SKM. The motors are factory wired to chiller unitcontrol panel where the motor starters are located to control theoperation of these motors. The condenser fans are individuallystatically and dynamically balanced at the factory. Completefan assembly is provided with suitable acrylic coated fan guard.EvaporatorAPCX evaporators are direct expansion, shell and tube, withhaving 1, 2,3 or 4 refrigerant circuits. Evaporator shell is madeof steel. Tubes of copper fixed to steel end plates. Baffles areprovided in the water flow to increase heat transfer efficiency.Evaporators are provided with drain and vent plugs. Cooler shellis insulated with 1.0” (25mm) thick flexible closed cell insulation,K factor 0.28 Btu. in/ft².h.oF (0.04W/m.oK). Maximum workingpressure of waterside is 145 psig (1000 kPa) and refrigerantside is 239.3 psig (1650 kPa).You name it.We cool it3

SKM Air Cooled Packaged ChillersAPCX Series - R134a Casing/StructureThe unit casing in APCX series chillers is made of zinc coatedgalvanized steel sheets conforming to JIS-G 3302 and ASTMA653 which is phosphatized and baked after an electrostaticpowder coat of approximately 60 microns. This finish andcoating can pass a 1000 hour in 5% salt spray testing at 95 F(35 C) and 95% RH as per ASTM B117. Unit casing is providedwith access doors for easy servicing/maintenance. Provision for accepting volt free contact for remote start/stop.Control terminal blocks and power terminal blocks/bus bars.SKM Microprocessor Controller - MAGNUMAPCX chillers are assembled on rigid structural steel skidchannels painted with two coat galvanized primer and one coatblack enamel. The package is assembled for easy handlingduring transportation and robust support during installationand operation.Refrigerant PipingThe refrigeration circuit piping is fabricated from ACR gradecopper piping. Each refrigeration circuit includes filter drier,liquid line solenoid valve, thermostatic expansion valve, sightglass, shut off valve and hot gas muffler. For single compressorcircuits, additional vibration eliminators are provided.After fabrication the refrigeration circuit suction line is insulatedwith ½” (13 mm) wall thickness closed cell pipe insulation.Electrical Control PanelThe unit mounted chiller control panel enclosure is fabricatedout of heavy gauge sheet steel in phosphatized powder coatedbaked finish. The enclosure conforms to IP54 as per guidelinesin IEC 529. A hinged access door and key-fastener is providedfor easy access and security. The panel is factory wired inaccordance with NEC 430 & 440, labeled, tagged and features220V / 240V controls. Individual compressor and condenser fan motor contactors. Thermal magnetic circuit breakers for compressors andcondenser fan motors. Circuit breaker for control circuit. Remote/Off/Local selector switch. Microprocessor master board with graphical display. Microprocessor expansion boards as required. Control Relays and control circuit fuses. Control circuit on/off switch and pump down switches. 4Microprocessor control system is available for APCX serieschiller as a standard feature. Our high energy efficient chillerhas a full function microprocessor control unit designed to keepthe chiller running at its most energy efficient level. It is a ruggedmicroprocessor based controller that is designed for the hostileenvironment of HVAC industry.It provides flexibility with set points and control options that canbe selected prior to commissioning a system or when the unit islive and functioning. Displays, alarms and other interfaces areaccomplished in a clear and simple language that informs theuser as to the status of the system. How fastthe temperature changes is calculated and capacity decisionsare based upon the rate, the current temperature, and the controltemperature zone. Capacity is never added if the system ismoving toward the temperature target at an acceptable rate. Software is named MCS-Connectand it can provide both local and remote communications to thechiller microprocessor. This program allows viewing the entirestatus of chiller, inputs, outputs, set points, alarms, graphs etc.Through proper authorization, changes can be made to the system.Configuration files can be transmitted to or received from the unit.Communication between PC and chiller microprocessor can bemade through RS-232 serial port or Ethernet port.If there is more than one chiller, these chillers can be connectedtogether via Rs-485 network which can support up to 20 chillers.Access to this network can be local, via RS 232 or Ethernetconnection, or remote via 14.4K Baud modem. Each chiller in thenetwork must be assigned to a unique address. This address canbe changed from the LCD/keypad of the unit or through MCSConnect software. RS 232 transmission should not exceed 50feet in length and RS 485 transmission should not exceed 1 milewithout repeater.
