Nursing Concepts Online (NCO) is a combination of several Elsevier products, which allows fora more holistic course. NCO contains Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing, Clinical Skills, HESI PatientReviews, and Case Studies as well as links to Giddens’ Concepts for Nursing Practice, and twosets of quizzes. Select versions of NCO also include SimChart. This guide will walk throughwhere each of these resources is located and the different ways to access them.Mapping your NCO Course2. Within the Course Content section of your NCO course, on the left-hand side, you will see afolder named Nursing Concepts Online.3. Nursing Concepts Online – Basic Structure4. This will open a new browser tab with a graphic that explains the layout of the Concepts in yourNCO Course and the sub-concepts contained inside. This graphic will help you betterunderstand the concept organization ensuring you can find the resource you are looking for.Content Inside Every Subtopic5. Once you are inside of the Concept and Sub-Concept you are looking for, you will see severaldifferent links related to the sub-concept.6. Interrelated Concepts will open a new browser tab that shows a graphic of the other conceptsrelated to the current concept.9. There will be 2 quizzes in every concept. A Case Study will present the student with a vignette and ask the student a few open-endedessay questions.Content Inside Select SubconceptsNOTE: The next sets of items may or may not appear in sub-concepts folders.11. Clinical Skills may appear in a subconcept’s folder, if there are skills related to the concept.Clinical Skills provides the student with the following:a. Nursing Concepts Online – Basic Structure12. HESI Patient Reviews will appear in the sub-concept folder, if there are patient reviews related tothe sub-concept. A patient review will present a student with a scenario over the course ofseveral pages, with questions appearing on some of the pages.EAQ in NCO13. Elsevier Adaptive Quizzing (EAQ) in NCO is a quizzing system that assesses the student’sknowledge of each concept and will give him/her questions, with difficulty based on thestudent’s individual mastery. The student’s mastery level is concept-specific and can rangefrom 0-3. Once inside the concept and sub-concept folder you desire, instructions on how tocreate quizzes are in the folder Adaptive Assessments.14. You can also review the Adaptive Quizzing Reports by going to Reports under Course Tools onthe left-hand side of the screen and clicking Adaptive Report.Evolve Training and ImplementationPage 5

SimChart is a web-based simulated electronic healthrecord (EHR) system that was specifically developed as a teaching tool for health scienceeducation. If your version of NCO contains SimChart, SimChart Setup and folders marked CaseStudies, Simulations and My Clinicals will be in Course Content underneath the Conceptsfolder.16.
