Per G.Burhol (1986-1987), I consentrated on studier in isolated pancreatic islets and their secretoryresponses on metabolic, hormonal, and pharmacological stimuli with prof. Jon Florholmen assupervisor. 1989 I established a method for the separation and measurement of inositolmetabolittes. Since then reaseach focused on intracellular signal transduction in beta cells ofthe pancreatic islets, leading to my Doctoral Degree 1995 on the topic "Studies on theintracellular regulation of insulin secretion in pancreatic islets: An experimental study withspecial reference to the effect of cholecystokinin, somatostatin, and galanin on the hydrolysisof phosphatidyl inositol."In addition to research in endocrinology, I have investigated genetic, biochemical, and clinicalaspects of the lysosomal storage disease Alpha-mannosidosis with focus on detection ofmutations, genotype-phenotype correlations, immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, and enzymereplacement therapy.In 1992 I established ”The Tromsø Mannosidosis Group” together with the profs ØivindNilssen and Ole Kristian Tollersrud.
