1.IntroductionThis section of the Graduate Catalogue presents current graduate programs, courses& study plans. It has been prepared by the Office of Research & Graduate Studies incoordination with the Graduate Program Directors and Co-Directors in each College.Course acronyms and codes have been standardized for easier reference. Forexample, one acronym for each graduate program, irrespective of the number oftracks within that program. All graduate programs and their tracks, if any, are firstlisted in alphabetical order; followed by course listings, course descriptions and studyplans. The catalog is updated on a yearly basis.2. Graduate ProgramsAlfaisal University currently offers eight graduate programs. The programs and theirtracks, if applicable, are:2.1Master Degree in Business Administration (MBA)In addition to the general MBA, MBA tracks in Healthcare Management andin Finance are designed to meet specific needs in the KSA business & healthcommunities. These tracks are not separate MBA programmes; they aremade up of the standard eight core courses plus, at least, five elective courses2.1.12.1.22.1.3General: The Alfaisal University College of Business MBA degreeprovides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skillsneeded to take advantage of career opportunities and to dealeffectively and responsibly with complex business challenges. Globaland regional organizations require their managers and leaders tohave a variety of technical and interpersonal skills. The AlfaisalUniversity MBA will equip students with the skills and qualificationneeded to realize these objectives and better serve yourorganization, your community, and your nation.Finance: The MBA Finance track is taught by the College of Businessat Alfaisal University. It builds on the established strengths ofAlfaisal's core MBA program and its strong Finance and Economicsfaculty. It also exploits the intellectual ties between Finance,Accounting, and Economics. The program focusses on appliedfinance and is highly relevant to the various contemporary financeissues. It is flexible as it affords students the opportunity to selectfrom a variety of finance elective courses that allow them to fit theMBA-Finance experience to their specific career needs.Healthcare Management: The MBA Healthcare Management track istaught jointly by the College of Business and the College of Medicinefaculty at Alfaisal University. It builds on the established strengths ofAlfaisal's core MBA program and its solid presence in medicaleducation. The program is highly relevant to clinical and non-clinicalmedical professionals looking to enter the ranks of management orthose who are already health care managers wishing to improve their

skills. Using an integrated world-class curriculum, students receive avery pertinent and timely education in the management ofhealthcare operations.2.2Master Degree in Biomedical Sciences (MBS)The Ministry of Education (MOE) approved two year Graduate Program whichis open to both male and female students, Saudi and non-Saudi, allowsstudents to choose to join one of six tracks. All tracks are Thesis Option.2.2.12.2.22.2.32.2.42.2.52.2.62.3Analytical Biochemistry: The program aim is to provide graduateswith an understanding of fundamental biological processes at amolecular level; it also contributes to solving of medical problemsand drug discovery and disease curing.Biotechnology: The program includes courses dealing with theadvanced techniques of molecular biology, genetic engineering,applications of nanotechnology, and special topics such asnanomedicine and its applications in disease diagnosis, drugformulation, and drug delivery.Clinical Anatomy: The program is focused on the study of grossanatomy, histology, neuroanatomy and embryology. It deals with theclinical application of anatomical disciplines. The program offers abroad range of fundamental courses including techniques ofmolecular biology, biostatics and research methodology. It is alsoresearch intensive and provides several basic science laboratoryexercises as well as practical research experience in molecularbiology, cell biology and medical education.Clinical Embryology & Reproductive Biology: Graduates will beprepared to meet the rising need in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia andthe Gulf region for qualified and well-trained assisted reproductivetechnology (ART) professionals. Certified by Saudi Commission forHealth Specialties (SCHS)Infection Control: Graduates from this program which meetsinternational standards will have achieved the competencies fordeveloping and leading infection prevention programs in healthcarefacilities. Certified by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS)Molecular & Cell Biology: The Graduate Program offers a uniqueenvironment of higher education that integrates the research andtraining capabilities at KFSHRC and Alfaisal University in a distinctivemodern educational setting. Potential careers for graduates includethe expanding market in molecular medicine, biotechnology, andbiomedical research.Master Degree in Clinical Psychology (MCP)The Master of Clinical Psychology is offered academically by the College ofMedicine in collaboration with King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) for the clinicalaspect of the degree. The courses of the Master program of ClinicalPsychology are designed as a practical program and includes aresearch/capstone project. Most of the courses have a practical elementwhich will be applied at the Mental Health Department of the NationalNeuroscience Institute in King Fahad Medical City.2

2.4Master Degree in Engineering & Systems Management (MEM)The Ministry of Education (MOE) approved two year M. Sc. in Engineering &Systems Management consists of both thesis and courses-only options. Theprogram was developed in collaboration with the Centre for ComplexEngineering Systems (CCES) at KACST (King Abdulaziz City for Science &Technology) and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The electivecourses span the themes: Decision Analysis & Data Analytics, Manufacturing& Supply Chain Management, and Development of Cyber-Physical Systems.This program is not an MBA; it is a technical master’s degree focused onengineering, data science and computation. “Systems thinking” is animportant part of the degree, whether applied to the improvement of existingsystems and operations or the creation of new products and services.Personal engineering leadership development is a mandatory part of theprogram.2.5Master Degree in Genetic Counselling (MGC)The goal of this courses-only program is to meet the current and futuredemand of healthcare system for highly qualified, competent and culturallysensitive genetic counsellors in Saudi Arabia and in the region. Studentsgraduating from the program will be recognized by the Saudi Commission forHealth Specialties (SCHS) as a Specialist in Genetic Counselling.2.6Master Degree in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (MNT)The program is materials-oriented with emphasis in materials chemistry,micro-electronics, photonics, and their biomedical and energy applications.Tracks include Nano materials for Energy & Environmental Applications, andNano medicine & Nano diagnostics. Both tracks are Thesis Option.2.7Master Degree in Public Health (MPH)This is a two year program consisting of both thesis and courses-only optionsand was designed for working physicians, residents, fellows, public healthofficials, policy makers and college graduate students interested in publichealth. Students have the opportunity to design and conduct communityresearch as well as public health research. At the end of the two-yearprogram, students should develop a comprehensive understanding of thepublic health professional practice through experience with both academicspecialists and experienced practitioners. Students must choose one of threepossible tracks: Mass Gatherings Health (Hajj and Umrah), Biostatistics andEpidemiology, or Health Policy & Management.2.8Master Degree in Radiological and Imaging Sciences (MRS)The program which is open to training men and women, Saudi and non-Saudi,local and international students, is designed in two specialization tracks:Radiological & Imaging Sciences (Education & Management) and Ultrasound.Both tracks are courses-only option. The Saudi Commission for HealthSpecialties (SCFHS) has certified (Hajri 14/04/1438) the main trackRadiological & Imaging Sciences. The Ultrasound track has been submitted3

2.8.1Radiological & Imaging Sciences (Education & Management): Aims toprepare and train lecturers in undergraduate and technicalsupervisors, managers of radiologic and imaging services. Students inthis track; in addition to, their training in the advanced sciences andpractices of medical radiologic and imaging clinical services, willreceive practical training in pedagogical practices, teaching andlearning, outcomes assessment, and academic programmaticaccreditation. Also, will Prepares at free standing imaging centres,hospitals and/or major medical centres. The focus is on technicalmanagement and educations of imaging and related services qualityassurances, including clinical service accreditation by the ABR andother comparable accreditation organizations.2.8.2Ultrasound: Clinically oriented advanced training in ultrasoundimaging. Students in this track spend daily rotations at the King FaisalSpecialist Hospital & Research Centre’s Department of Radiology,where they are engaged in providing ultrasound imaging servicesunder the supervision of certified practitioners. While acquiring theiradvanced clinical skills in ultrasound, students are taught in thedidactic aspects of medical diagnostic imaging and its basic sciencesat the Alfaisal University’s College of Medicine.4
