USIEF Executive Director’s MessageThe United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), theFulbright Commission in India, is pleased to announce a new round offellowship competitions open to Indian citizens for 2018-2019. Inaddition to providing opportunities for personal, academic andprofessional growth, Fulbright-Nehru and other exchanges promotemutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and India.Fulbright-Nehru and other fellowships have, over the years, helped bring people of India andthe United States closer through educational exchanges. Since 1950, USIEF has administeredover 19,000 grants for Indians and the U.S. citizens. USIEF alumni have demonstrated strongleadership in all walks of life, including agriculture, arts, business, education, environment,humanities and social sciences, public health, and science and technology.This e-brochure describes the fellowships, eligibility criteria, and procedures for applying. Fulbright-Nehru Master's FellowshipsThe Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships aredesigned for outstanding Indians residing in Indiato pursue a master's degree program at selectedU.S. colleges and universities in the areas of Artsand Culture Management including HeritageConservation and Museum Studies;Environmental Science/Studies; HigherEducation Administration; International LegalStudies; Public Administration; Public Health;Urban and Regional Planning; and Women'sStudies/Gender Studies.These fellowships are for highly motivatedindividuals who demonstrate leadership qualities,have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor'sdegree, have at least two years professional workexperience, and are committed to return andcontribute to their communities. LecturingIndian academics and professionals contribute tothe internationalization of the curriculum at theirU.S. host institutions and the understanding ofrecent developments not just in India but globally.The recipient will be affiliated as a visiting scholarat a U.S. institution, and will teach coursesindividually or team-teach.Lecturing applications are especially welcomeResearch and LecturingApplicants will carry out a combination of teachingand research activities at the U.S. host institution.Please specify the percentage of the grant for eachactivity and define this in your project statement.For instance, if you plan to spend 60% of yourgrant duration for research and 40% for teaching,your project statement should demonstrate thisallocation. Teaching could include courses(individually or team-taught) or a series of seminarsat the U.S. institution.Flex AwardsFlex Awards are designed for scholars who requiremultiple visits to the U.S. and for those who find itdifficult to leave their home institutions during theacademic year. This option allows grants to beconducted over short segments, preferably duringthe fall and/or spring semesters. Fulbright-Kalam Climate FellowshipThe United States-India Educational Foundation(USIEF) administers the Fulbright-Kalam ClimateFellowship on behalf of both the governments.Fulbright-Kalam Climate Fellowships are offeredfor:Eligibility Requirements for Fulbright-KalamClimate Fellowship for Doctoral ResearchIn addition to the General Prerequisites:lCandidates registered for their Ph.D.s shouldhave conducted adequate research in therelevant field, especially in the identification ofresources in India and the U.S. The candidatemust be registered for a Ph.D. at an Indianinstitution on or before August 1, 2016. In thecandidate's online application form, one of thereferees should be the candidate's Ph.D.supervisor. The supervisor should indicate thePh.D. registration date and topic. Thesupervisor should also provide comments onthe candidate's research work and theusefulness of the fellowship. Ph.D. students willconduct research essential to their dissertationsor thesis.
