CONNEXThe Plug-in Connection System forPower Transformers and Gas-Insulated Switchgearwww.pfisterer.com

CONNEXSafety and Versatilityin SubstationsPower grids are changing dynamically around the world as the energy revolutionand restructuring of loads give rise to new challenges for operators of powertransformers and switchgear. Substations are therefore becoming more compactand space saving, since power systems must be versatile and potentially even mobile. In this context, transformers and switchgear should be capable of being installed and replaced quickly and used in a variety of long-term applications both indoors and outdoors. The dry, pluggable CONNEX connection system fromPFISTERER makes substations fit for both current and future challenges. What is CONNEX?CONNEX is a pluggable connection system for all voltagelevels from 6 to 550 kV – on cables, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and transformers. With the widest range ofpluggable cable connections and terminations on themarket as well as system extensions for test purposes,CONNEX offers the ideal solution for every requirement.CONNEX makes power transformers and GIS equipmentpluggable and therefore offers unprecedented flexibilityin design, commissioning and use. After all, thanks tothe plug-in principle using standardized interfaces, thecables or overhead line connections, test adapters or solid-insulated surge arresters can be installed, maintained or replaced in next to no time. On the secondaryside of the transformer, only CONNEX offers solid-insu-lated surge arresters and multiple connections in different configurations in addition to the conventionalplug-and-socket combination and voltage testing systems. The Advantages Fastinstallation Requiresminimum space in outdoorinstallations and buildings Mobile Cansetup for versatile applicationbe used in long-term applicationsfor changes in infrastructure1232CONNEX

The Heart of the SystemEfficient Use of SpaceThe CONNEX device connection part is a permanently integrated component of the transformer or gas-insulatedswitchgear (GIS). This component forms the basis for alldry and pluggable CONNEX connectionsolutions. The connection system is theproduct of more than 100 years of contacttechnology expertise at PFISTERER and ischaracterized in particular by its highcurrent-carrying capacity.Space is in especially short supply in metropolitanareas, which is why substations need to becomesmaller and more compact and even be installed onseveral levels below ground or in buildings. Transformers equipped with solid insulated, fully encapsulated CONNEX components require no minimum distances between the phase connections. Theencapsulation also improves reliability and makesall system interfaces safe to the touch. This, in turn, allows substations to be realized in a safe and highlyspace-saving manner.1 MV-Multi Elbow Bushing2 MV-Surge Arrester3 MV-Connector4 HV-Socket5 HV-Connector6 HV-Surge Arrester654CONNEX3

Made for ChangeAlternating LocationsThe service lives of transformers are calculated at 40 to50 years. Complicating matters is the fact that changesto infrastructure networks in the medium to long termcannot be predicted. No one can possibly know how andwhere systems currently installed will be used in 20 or30 years. With CONNEX, power transformers and GISequipment remain highly versatile across their entireservice life when it comes to connection options. When a power failure occurs, transformers must betransported to the application site and connected inminimal time. CONNEX makes transformers mobile. Thanks to their compact design, they are easy to transport and quick to connect due to their pluggable components.1 MV-Multi Elbow Bushing2 MV-Surge Arrester3 MV-Connector4 HV-Socket5 Dummy Plug6 HV-Bushing654CONNEX4

Time Savings of 75 %Certified SafetyTime is money. Quick installation and expeditedmaintenance minimize downtime. Systems equippedwith CONNEX are factory tested on shipment and donot need to be opened on site; gas or oil operationsand field testing are therefore not required. Installation is kept to a simple plug-in procedure. This, inturn, reduces installation time by up to 75 percentduring initial installation and commissioning andpays for itself every time maintenance is carried out.The CONNEX system has been tested to be compliant withall international standards for the following three systemconnection areas:TransformerTest: IEC 60137Dimensions: EN 50299 Cablefittings to IEC 60840 Gas-insulated Plug-inswitchgear to IEC 62271-203bushings to IEC 60137ConnectorIEC 60840 / IEC 62067Surge ArresterIEC 60099-4BushingIEC 60137Dummy PlugGas-InsulatedSwitchgearTest: IEC 62271-203Dimensions: IEC 62271-209CONNEX5

In 1921, Karl Pfisterer founded his factory in Stuttgart for special electrical productswith the aim of improving the world of power transmission. The PFISTERER Grouphas pursued this goal of quality and technological leadership for more than100 years. Today, PFISTERER is one of the world’s leading specialists and systemsuppliers for energy infrastructure – with a complete range of cable accessories, overhead line technology and components along the entire transmission chain frompower generation to consumption. With state-of-the-art manufacturing processesand 1,200 employees at 18 international locations, PFISTERER not only connects thepower grids of today and tomorrow, but also makes an important contribution to asustainable and secure energy supply.www.pfisterer.comthe power connectionCONNEXRosenstraße 4473650 WinterbachGermanyPhone: 49 7181 7005 0Fax: 49 7181 7005 565info@pfisterer.comwww.pfisterer.comM2016-017 EN 07 11 / 2021 PFISTERER Holding AG www.pfisterer.com We do not assume any liability for printing misprints/Subject to technical modificationsPFISTERER Kontaktsysteme GmbH
